The Bronx is a suburb of NYC. They have the famous Bronx Zoo, Yankee Stadium and a Botanical Garden The Bronx is about 1 hour away from the Manhattan Central. It is more of where people live and so there isn't much to see here from my research. The neighborhood is safe. It is not an area where tourists usually end up visiting. The bronx has changed , There were still sections of the Bronx that were very nice, low crime, clean, to be frankly honest, I believe those days are over. Our city leadership has let us down. The Bronx is a jungle now. It's a Boro that has been destroyed and neglected. What good is it to keep building housing when the people you move in just destroy it. We need to bring the Throggs Neck Area back to its beauty. Let's build on the water fronts, like City Island, Seafood restaurants along the waterfront. There is Ferry Point Park. There could be economic growth in this area. The city is ruining the Bronx, They are overpopulating this boro. read more

The Bronx...the true forgotten borough. Most of my friends reside in Queens, Brooklyn, & Manhattan and refuse to believe the BX is anything other than a place I dodge bullets in all day. From all of the restaurants, to the zoo, to the culture, and the beautiful views of the east river, Throggs Neck & Whitestone bridges this is hands down one of the most scenic and beautiful places within the city limits. You're truly doing yourself a disservice if you don't explore this gem at least once in your life. Bronx as a place on Yelp? Cool. Guessing Yelp is not just for businesses. Or is it a business? I'm sure it is for some. For me it will always be the place where I grew up and where I had some of the best days of my life. I remember the zoo, it was so much fun, before they started charging crazy money just to visit. Today if a kid wants to visit the zoo, he can't just do it. He first needs to get the money to pay for entry. The bridges. Beautiful. Rusted. And huge. The Tribiro before became the RFK. The river where we used to fish. And of course the diversity of population. I know exist in many areas in NYC, but I think in the Bronx more than others. The Bronx - Botanical Gardens Near Me

Growing up in The Bronx, was an experience all on its own which came with tons of pluses and......many minuses. The good and definitely, with the bad. Chinese Take Out are on almost every corner, 99¢ stores and liquor stores- you can't miss them. Don't worry, there's a Dominican hair salon next block and the block after that. Everything in The Bronx, is in excess. Aside from that, The Bronx is a unique Metropolis- not as diverse as Queens or Manhattan, but it is up there. Throughout the many years, I've seen its ups and downs in some crumbling neighborhoods, that are now coming back slo-o-owly but with an impact. With too many neighborhoods to count, The BX though, is tight knit with good food, great Music history with different religions and cultures. You forgot your Coco Bread and Callaloo? There's East Gun Hill, home to all things West Indian. Italians in BX's Little Italy and some in Throggs Neck. Fordham- full of Dominicans. Eastern Europeans in Pelham Parkway. West Africans dominate in Morris Heights. The Asian population, is actually the smallest in The BX and in no way compares to Queens. Puerto Ricans? They're everywhere. And in Parkchester, Muslims and Hindus, rule. Memories will never fade- too many Breakdance and Hip Hop Block parties from back in the day, are unforgettable. Some of my favorite friends both Yelp and Non-Yelp Friends live in the Bronx. I'm sorry to say I don't get to the Bronx as much as I did when I was working. First place you need to go is the Zoo. Just don't go in the Dog Days of Summer. I'm still enjoying my daughter's Photos of the Botanical Garden. I've yet to get there! My fondest memories are when I worked in Social Services with Individuals with HIV/AIDS. I went to at least a half dozen agencies in the Bronx on a regular basis. I met the most wonderful people attempting to survive. The most wonderful non-profit agencies with the kindest most dedicated employees. They made my job easy. I was always told the coolest Deli to grab lunch. I'm not going to say it wasn't scary. These programs face NIMBY. That's what we call Not In My Back Yard. That tells you they are located in less than desirable neighborhoods. I was a little younger then. With my long career in social services I knew how to handle myself. Plus I went during work hours. The Bronx. The northernmost borough of New York City. The home of the Yankees and birthplace of hip hop. The place I've called home my entire life. Being born and raised here, I can honestly say the Bronx gets a bad rep. Yes, the borough has its good parts and bad parts - but in all honesty, you can say that about any borough of the city (and moreover, any major metropolitan area in the US). A lot of people's perception of the Bronx comes from the state of the borough in the 70s, when a wave of arson took over and it became identified as a place of poverty and high unemployment. We've come a long way since then, and it only seems to be getting better as the years go by. One thing that always tickles me is seeing out-of-towner's reactions when I tell them I'm from the Bronx - the looks on their faces are usually a mix of disbelief and aghast =D But anyway, we're here on Yelp - so it's only fitting I tell you all the great things about the Bronx. One of my favorite things about the Bronx is that it's centrally located - you have easy access to Manhattan, Queens, Long Island, Westchester, and Connecticut. Lots of highways run though the borough (some better than others), and we're served by the NYC bus and subway system - plus Metro North railroad. The Bronx is ethnically diverse, so much that the National Civic League named it an "All-America City" in 1997. Like most of NYC, there are many different types of neighborhoods. The Bronx is a changing borough too, most recently with touches of gentrification hitting neighborhoods like Mott Haven and Kingsbridge. Even though the Bronx is mostly urban with a population of 1.4 million people, there is a lot of open space. Pelham Bay Park (the largest park in NYC), the Bronx Zoo, and New York Botanical Gardens show a greener side to the borough that people might not automatically think of. Other attraction points in the Bronx are Yankee Stadium, City Island, and Arthur Ave - the real Little Italy of NYC. I'm mixed when it comes to food in the Bronx; while there is no shortage of pizzerias and Chinese takeout (like seriously, there's one on every damn corner), the choices of diverse food options lacks compared to other boroughs. The Bronx has amazing pizza and Italian food, and other ethnic cuisines are well represented too, but it's just not up to par with Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan. I will say though, this is starting to change, and I'm seeing a lot of new, innovative places opening more frequently which gets me really excited. I've just realized this review kind of sounds like something out of a tourism video, but hey, I gotta represent ;-). I can't say I'm going to live in the Bronx forever, but no matter where life takes me, it will always be home. read more

The Bronx has many places to see if you haven't gone you should go and visit. Sometimes people hear the Bronx and automatically think negative things but the truth is the Bronx has many cool spots. For example little Italy ,the New York botanical garden, the Bronx zoo, yankee stadium , city island, the Bronx brewery , the mall at bay plaza, Lehman college , Fordham, grand concourse ,the Bronx terminal market and Riverdale. There's so much more. What I love are all the art & graffiti art you see all around you. They also have the Bronx museum and many other museums. The Bronx is the northernmost borough of all the five boroughs within NYC and hosts a cultural mix of Irish, German, Jewish, Italian, African American, Hispanic plus folks from the Caribbean. With that much cultural diversity wouldn't you expect to see an exceptional diverse cuisine? Unfortunately, that is not the case...well at least not entirely. Since being adopted by the Bronx, I am not native to NYC, within the past 15 years or so I have noticed that there has been an overwhelming majority of restaurants being either Italian or Irish at least around the Throggs Neck area. Since the influx of other nationalities to the Throggs Neck/Schuylerville area, as far as restaurants go, we have seen a smattering of Japanese, Greek, Latin, Mexican and German cuisines. And in the surrounding neighborhoods, such as Morris Park and Pelham Bay, there are Thai restaurants and a Texas type barbecue joint to expand our neighborly cuisine. If you're in the mood for a more epicurean journey for lets say, Korean, Indian or Turkish gourmet, which on many occasions I am, these restaurants have not yet penetrated any of the above areas from what I have experienced and you'll have to make that trek to either of our neighboring boroughs of Queens or Manhattan. From most of the restaurant Yelp reviews of The Bronx, it has been clearly noted that we are no longer just the infamous quasi-seafood of some parts of City Island or just the histories past of Italian restaurants of Arthur Ave. In a matter of years, a wider range of restaurants have popped up giving this Bronx borough those few extra flavors that we have been lacking. So to conclude, we are not as culinarily diverse as most of our neighboring boros and we surely do have a ton of competitive food gaps to be filled. But, we are slowly evolving and adding sparks of newness to our bronxite food haunts. A lot of people in The Bronx have a bad cough. This is because The Bronx is Ground Zero for "Bronxitis", also known as "The Black Lung" also known as "What Zoolander Got In The Mines." If you think you may have Bronxitis, please contact your nearest medical professional at your earliest inconvenience. If this were "The Gronks" then lots of very tall, very athletic Buffalo kids that play for the Patriots and sleep with porn stars and drink a lot, would live here. Actually nm, that's a perfect Bronx description. Pat really said it better than I ever could. So this review is dedicated to her, for her excellent review and for being generally awesome. And to Karen, the Goddess of the Bronx whose brilliant mind is the reason The Bronx is so brontastic. And to Spencer, for being the coolest guy in Bronx history. Literally. I mean it. I broke up with him 3 times and he didn't even care. He didn't cry. He didn't break a sweat. This man has ice in his veins. Trust me. And other things in his veins too but that's illegal so I'm not going into it. If this were "The Monks" then there would be no sex whatsoever going on here (except maybe with boys, maybe). So basically the opposite of what The Bronx actually is then. I've always loved The Bronx. I first visited this beautiful bewitching bad-ass borough in 1999 with a girl that I loved then and still love now. We've roamed the Bronx together on a number of occasions and we've experienced everything from intimidating tower blocks, to the swanky new Yankee Stadium, to the best yummy Gyros in the whole country, the most magnificent Mexican home cooking, some beautiful Bosnian Burek, and a very impressive zoo. I've also played a concert in the Bronx - just once - at Bronx Bay Plaza in 2008. It was one of my most memorable NYC concerts and I'll always have a soft spot for this borough because of that (although it's not the spot you're thinking of, which is always, always hard). If this were "The Onyx", it would be a banded variety of the silicate mineral chalcedony, much like Agate. Speaking of agate, I would like to slide my Onyx into Agate right now. Do you have Agate I can use? It'll be worth it. I promise. There's so much great food in Queens, and of course the more publicized Bklyn and M'htn, that The Bronx and Staten Island are oft overlooked. I've never found amazing food in SI (but I'm sure I will), however the Bronx has some real gems. Chopped Broccoli. Chopped Brocco-lie. So all in all, come to the Bronx for the real NYC. Come to the Bronx for the most affordable housing in the biggest city in North America. Come for the best Chicago-style Gyros in NYC and perhaps in the country. Come for the Bosnian, Mexican, and the Pizza. Come for the Yankees or to see where J-Lo's million dollar booty came from. But most of all, come here to see Spencer. Or more specifically, come here to see Spencer's d**k. If this were "The Brunch" then it would be a bunch of hipsters eating Salmon and Eggs while drinking Mimosas. Good luck with that. May that phenomenon never reach the BX. And if this were "The Honx" then it would be perfect, because everyone in NYC Honks their horn, like, all the time. But if you want something to honk about, my word. Working in the Bronx for a year now has enable me to encounter and experience an array of ethnicities, cultures, and sport aficionados with NY Yankees, Bronx Zoo, Bronx Botanical Garden, Wave Hill Garden, and Lehman Center for the Performing Arts. Unlike the remaining four NYC boroughs since The Bronx is connected to the rest of the country it enables transcontinental railroad passage as Amtrak and commuter railroad trafficking through Connecticut state. Most of my friends live here and with the new boom of NYC residents in general, this borough is experiencing an economic development like never before. Where do I start with the Bronx...I honestly have a love-hate relationship with this borough. I worked here for alotta years which is why I commuted here everyday after being transferred to another hospital. This borough is known for Latinos (Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Mexicans) & Africans (Ghana takes number 1 here lol, Naija, Senegalese, Ivorienne, and the Jamaicans are up by White Plains/Gun Hill. And the Italians has their own section as well. Riverdale section has a big jewish community. So as for food, that is what youll find in the borough. But if youre looking for haitian food or Vietnamese, Turkish, etc youll have to go outer borough for that. Great fruit stands tho! Id say they rank number 1 for that! You will find kenaps, pomegranate fruit, soursop. These fruits are so rare & hard to find but in the Bronx, youll find them on damn near every corner/fruit shop. You cant talk BX without mentioning City Island! The best seafood youll find in the tri state area. Its the closest borough to Manhattan aside frm certain sections of Brooklyn. Rent is much cheaper compared to other boroughs The CONS: Parking! And if you live in the borough, be real careful bc theyre quick to give you a ticket for almost anything. The traffic police are street soldiers in the BRONX. Even on Sundays. Jerks! And Be careful that the papis dont steal one of ur car parts while its parked at night and resell it on Jerome Ave. Youll end up waking up to no rear view mirror. Also, the BX is the dirtiest borough Id have to say health wise. I work in a hospital & can testify to this. BX has the highest STD/AIDS cases in any borough. So if you're looking to be a player you better strap up bc you can meet a 24 yr old with full blown AIDS in this borough easily. It doesnt matter wat nationality. So as for dating & marriage, NO WAY! Unless we both get tested for EVERYTHING. The dating pool is lowww in the poles borough wise unless youre from Africa or a Latino. Overall, I give the Bronx 3 stars. If I have a choice, I wouldn't want to live in this borough. Just visit. Too many impoverished neighborhoods & high risk living for me. read more
