Taking a dance class is something that I never thought I would ever do again - last…read moretime I was in dance I was in 7th grade, about 200 lbs, and cried when I had to dance in front of other people. My great friend Taylor decided that she wanted to give this class a shot (they had a $15 groupon) and talked me into it. I'll do anything for the promise of Margaritas. We were laughing and joking all the way there. Then when we got there and saw all the perfectly skinny b****es we began to feel a little bit nervous. We were joking about sticking to the back, our bellys jiggling, and not being able to get up off the floor. Lets just say compared to some of the women here we did not feel too sexy at the beginning (especially the blonde that was helping out with the class. She was like the definition of perfect). The instructors really put us at ease though. They let us know that this was not so much the "traditional" burlesque but moreso a CONTEMPORARY burlesque class - it was something different than I was expecting, but still amazingly fun! The class was compiled of a small group of all women. There were bachelorette parties, small groups of friends, and some women who were really serious and you could tell that they were going to put their $15 to use and seriously get their freak on after that class. It was revitalizing to see that 95% of the class showed up in sweatpants and tank tops - except for the few women that showed up in booty shorts. I'll say it once and I'll say it again. Skinny b****es ! We started off with some stretches and leg lifts. I had just gotten off an 8 hour shift of carrying around 30 lbs of gear and a kevlar vest so at times I felt like I couldn't lift my legs off the floor. There were stretches and moves that I hadn't done since high school cheer. Yet the instructors made sure to reiterate that everything was okay, and that everyone has their own level of what they are able to do and not feel bad. We learned some awesomely sexy moves such as the "sexy hair shake" (which I suppose only works if you've brushed your hair that day...), "sexy leg kicks" (think Bettie Page taking off her stockings), and the "sexy way to get off the floor" (arch your back and smile - always smile - scowling your face does not look sexy even though if you're out of shape like me your core will hurt!). We also did the sexy catwalk in groups of 3/4 across the room. Despite our best efforts Taylor and I were trying to stay together but we always ended up apart. It was fun to give ourselves kudos and complements as we strutted to some old school Britney. The fun part of the class came when we learned the burlesque dance. It had several 8 counts to it and was to a very, very, very sexy TLC song. There was booty shaking - hair flipping, leg spreading, tata shaking, and sexy strutting! It was super fun to learn and the instructors broke it down to nice simple combinations and went at the speed of the slowest person in the class (which was mostly me!). Although I am not very refined, and my version of "sexy" also included my knees cracking so loudly and me grunting when I was trying to get up that everyone erupted in laughter (even me!) I still had such an amazing time in this class. By the time the class had finished I had mastered (well in my mind....which is what counts!) a good portion of the dance and I felt a lot sexier than when I went in. I really recommend it to any lady that would love to try it and trust me bring a friend, take some shots before hand, and you will have a seriously great time!

This review is for the show, rather than the venue, which I'll do a separate review for. I purchased VIP tickets for the Fever-run event as a Christmas gift for my significant other, and we both loved it! It was hilarious, and tastefully sexy! The different acts featured a variety of music genres, so there's something for everyone's taste! The show was about 2 hours in length with a 15 minute intermission between the first and second half of the show. VIP tickets got us VIP entry, 2 champagne or other sparkling beverages, and a t-shirt each (our selections are pictured! Also definitely recommend picking these up at the beginning to avoid long lines at the end!) Per google reviews of the show, lines were long for drinks, and merchandise, so to save time, we redeemed both our drinks at the beginning of the show. They also offered a QR code, order ahead option, for merchandise. Neither myself nor my significant other had ever been to a burlesque show before, and this was certainly a fun, and worthwhile, introduction! Tip: there is a 24 hour parking garage adjacent to the Montalban with a max $10 fee for the day!

But it had heart for sure. It was cute and funny at times and pretty raunchy at times also which wasn't our particular taste but that's ok. I like raunchy but most of the humor here was just a little too much on the cheap and sleezy side for my taste. I just wished for one act at least to wow me, which didn't happen. The whole thing just felt like we were in someone's living room being entertained by their fun, sweet, and silly friends. If I were them I'd bring in real dancers, a director and production designer that was familiar with cool old cinema or theatrical dance sequences - think Crazy Horse, Singing in the Rain, Victor Victoria. Put real stories in the acts and relationships and not just make it solely about stripping for the audience each time, get a real costumer that can make cool visual experiences- right now it all feels like the artists built their own costumes out of whatever they had at home. Make the humor a little more funny and intelligent, put in a better sound system so we can feel the music more- the music was way too soft, and find more ways to bring creativity and imagination to the show. It's burlesque, we should leave feeling enchanted, not embarrassed we made our friends sit through it. Hope that's helpful.

WOW!!! So much to…read moresee. It is a magical evening of what I can only describe as a Renaissance Fair meets a Weho Halloween. The amount of imagination that goes into the bulk of these costumes is nothing less than incredible! I can only begin to fathom the cost it takes to fabricate these elaborate breathtaking creations. The ticket price alone (about $60) is worth it just to see everyone. A costume/formal evening wear is required for entry and trust me you don't want to show up in any old thing. People spend moths on their costumes and it shows. The ball is split up over numerous rooms and spaces. Some inside, some out. A major downside was how uncomfortably warm it was. People are in huge costumes, heavy make-up and wigs and there was no AC. They do have bars serving alcohol set up with average prices for such an event. There were food trucks located outside as well. We saw a few different performances with singing and dancing. Be warned there is a lot of walking if you want to check everything out. There are chairs here and there to catch a quick rest though. I'd recommend you check this out if you're into dressing up and the fantasy world.

But my real gripe is with ticket sellers and the theatre's allowance of baby's and toddlers to the show! We had a baby crying all throughout the show, ummm totally ruins the show for others who have to hear it. The tickets aren't cheap and it's more of an adult style circus so for someone to bring their baby is truly selfish and not thoughtful of other people. Totally ruined our date night experience. Please have your kiddie time another time. Get a babysitter or watch it on tv. Don't ruin it for other people! I don't feel the Microsoft theatre had enough space for their performance and this show I feel lacked the costume and prop pizazz that I am use to seeing. Total bust! In my opinion! Due to baby crying it caused distraction and instead of being immersed in the show I was constantly interrupted with a crying baby!

My 8 and 4 year olds were able to hang in there til the end because there was always something else to keep them entertained.
