"A Christmas Carol," play - wonderful matinee play on a windy Sunday with my complimentary hot cocoa, yay!
    Kim T.

Purchased from Livingsocial "A Christmas Carol," play with complimentary hot drink (tea, cocoa or coffee) before the show. I saw "A Christmas Carol," at the South Coast Repetory in Orange County last year, and wanted to check out this play this year. Easiest way to find this theater - Google Map Creative Arts Center Gallery on 1110 W. Clark Ave., and park in the lot and walk towards the softball field and there's a white building in front that will post banners/flyers of the Grove Theater Center. Got to the theater, I checked in and got my free hot drink (hot cocoa - they didn't have hot apple cider), and took pictures all over. They also sell snacks and other drinks too. They start letting people in about 10mins before showing. The ambience is relaxing and they had Greensleeves and Christmas carols playing before the show. Once the play started, I didn't take anymore pics out of respect. This play is a three player production with no set background other than a large table used in the center stage. The players act out verbally and physically, and you use your imagination for the background scenes. I ended up using Jim Carrey's cartoon version to follow the scenes in my mind. The only thing each player used was a large velvet scarf that they use to create the characters they are playing. Frank Simons (Man), Jenna Augen (Woman), and David Allen Jones (Scrooge) did an amazing job. They were funny, engaging and full of energy. They nailed every aspect of the play within 80 minutes with no intemission. I enjoyed it very much. I thought it would have been boring with no set backgrounds or additional players, but nope - those three were terrific!!! One star off: Small and intimate theater - seats about 100 people and the seats are hella small! You will be rubbing elbows with your seat mates, lol! I was fortunate that the couples sitting to both my sides were women since they were cuddling with their guys and so I got the elbow rests all to myself, lol! Also, my butt was actually hurting towards the end. Ideally, it would be nice if they got better, cushier seats, lol! Yup - this place us worth coming to see another show again - I dig it!

Sweet Karma. Come see the brand new show at GTC! Opening June 22nd!

As for the venue, the Sunday performances require masks and when a customer in front of me inquired about it the staff member indicated that they offer Sundays for those customers who want to wear masks. Doesn't make sense to me because if a customer wants to wear a mask during any performance in this venue they should be able to. Upon that said, there were a few customers not wearing any masks (again, makes no sense). The other con is they offer refreshments for sale at reasonable prices; however, you cannot take them into the theatre. I have only been to one other theatre that did not allow food nor drinks so you have to arrive early if you want refreshments or you can purchase during the intermission but have to hurry to finish up. Although staff was friendly and informative, the venue was cramped although plenty of seating is available. I doubt I will patronize this theatre again unless it was a "to die for" performance showing.

We will definitely return to this very friendly theater and we hope to see Kent again.

This acting thing is tough (and rough)... Especially if you're new to the industry and starting out as a newbie. So much to figure out - classes, getting representation - the who and the hows, how to market yourself - the what and the where... and then what happens when you get an audition, or callback?! I've learned so much from Brian and the team at BCAS. Brian has had a long and successful acting career. He's figured it out and is passing on his wisdom. Lucky us - the BCAS team lays it all out there. I remember visiting (auditing) different acting schools as I tried to find THE ONE. BCAS was the third studio I visited. Being someone who has major social anxiety, it took a lot for me to put myself out there - but when I walked in, I immediately felt as if I found my acting home, my "family". Brian, John, and Jill knew each student by name. They even knew who I was when I walked in on Day 1. I was impressed. Observing the format of the class, how Brian led and shared raw notes throughout the session, his humor and/but also seriousness with his art, how the group was focused, supportive and positive, and the professional equipment and recording set up, I signed up for my first cycle that evening. I was done auditing any other class/schools. I'm still at the beginning stage of my career in acting, but I know with the Brian's guidance, the different courses/services that the studio offers (accelerated program, assistance on eligibility to become Sag-E, etc.,) my career will move forward. No doubt. As a note: BCAS won't do the work for you. They'll be there as a tool and resource for you to succeed. But YOU have to put in the work. So there's that. Get to work. As I tell my kids, "If I'm not having a blast, I'm not doing it." Good Luck friends!

We watched Consensual Emu Comedy Improv, at this place. It's perfect for an early dinner date night in Burbank. There are plenty of great restaurants nearby, and you can even bring water bottles and sealed drinks (so they can't spill) into the venue to enjoy during the show. The comedy group was genuinely hilarious, taking prompts from the audience and turning them into a fully improvised musical comedy performance. They're incredibly creative and talented with on the spot humor. We were laughing throughout the entire show. One of my favorite moments was the impression of Teresa the Jersey Psychic woven into a skit. These performers can pull wild ideas straight out of their brains and instantly turn them into comedy gold. If you've ever been to Second City in Chicago or Vegas, or the Laugh Factory, this show is in that same spirit of fast, clever, character‑driven improv. And at only $8, it's an amazing date‑night option and a great way to support local performers. Highly recommend checking it out if you're in the area.

The theater itself has a very bare-bones, pure theater feel which I never imagined existed out in tinsel town. I have never been happier to be wrong. Last night, I had the pleasure of attending a performance of Hamlet. The cast was completely solid, lead by Christopher Karbo taking on perhaps the most difficult character in literature and making it look easy. He commands the stage with such a strong presence; during his performance of each soliloquy it felt like an intimate friend taking each individual audience member aside and really having a heart-to-heart with them. It felt so raw, and true. Eric Castro and Mary Carrig give excellent supporting performances. Each line was delivered with such passion. It was absolutely a fantastic show, and a great way to return to watching theater performances on a personal note.
