I like to visit here in the summer when they have a small outdoor seating area and you can sit back with a nice sarnie and enjoy the sunshine, making for a relaxing all round experience. As with most of the sandwich companies in Liverpool the staff here are very down to earth and extremely friendly meaning that as well as your food you often get a nice chat here also. The actual range of food here is nothing exceptional but it certainly competes with its many rivals who are dispersed around the city. This company also caters for parties and functions and are good for simple party buffet food. To summarise another very down to earth and unpretentious sandwich shop within Liverpool, let's hope they keep up the good work.

Butties tend to be the name of the game here, and the bread you can choose from is almost as vast as the variation of fillings... fancy your favourite on a wrap today instead of sliced? How about a Panini or ciabatta melt? It's all here. The only scruples are the fact that it does tend to be somewhat overpriced, and their fickle pricing system doesn't seem to help matters. I mentioned that I'd been there to a Liverpudlian friend who said, 'Yep, bet if you had that again you'd pay something different for it.' It apparently depends on who's working at the time or how generous they are with the ingredients. Strange, non? Also if you're on foot it's fine and dandy but if you're in transit with a car you won't find parking nearby, the area's emblazoned with double yellows. Never mind, though, because they have CAKE! Yes, homemade and fresh cakes and biscuits which are all exceptionally bad for you and even more exceptionally lovely. If you can get past the few cons this really is a good little sandwich spot for a tasty bit of lunch.

Yum Yum's have three menus really - a standard cold one (sandwiches, wraps, etc), a standard hot one (hot sandwiches, burgers, etc) and a specials menu, which is emailed around each morning around 9am. I normally ordered off the specials menu - not because the hot and cold ones were rubbish, but Fred's (I assume the owner!) little comments about each item were just great and made you want your lunch before half 9. (Fred's comments were often the highlight of the first hour at work!) The food was always very good from there, although slightly more expensive (iirc) than their competitors. We ordered breakfast from them once but it took them over an hour to make the order, but which time we were ready for lunch. The cafe itself is ok, althought the queue often snakes out of the door (goodness knows why) so the interior is often cold. If you want something for lunch then there are plenty of alternative places in the town centre proper including the Pasty Place, Spud-u-like and Harbingers. If on the other hand you want food that could easily be known as heart attack in a bap then perhaps you should give Yum Yums a try.

Subway food is freshly made to order, with a choice of 6 breads, and you can have a 6in sub or if your hungry, they do a 12in sub. The store has daily subs, a 6in sub at £1.99, the sub of the day posters are displayed. The store also does hot drinks, cold drinks and the most gorgeous cookies, so you can mix and match the menu to suit yourselves. The food is healthy and the salads are fresh. The service in this store is excellent, the staff are friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble.

I wasn't too impressed with my experience overall, I found the staff to be a little rude, originally refusing to accept my voucher code despite it being valid as "I had left feedback for a different Subway store", which has never been a problem before. They did originally accept it but said they would never give me a free drink again, which made me feel rather uncomfortable. They seemed to act like they were doing me a favour, after spending a couple of minutes at the till (while my food was going cold), rather than actually honouring a free drink deal which all other Subway's offer. My usual order of a gluten-free tuna, ham and cheese sub with salad was much messier than normal too, prices were a little higher compared to my usual store in Manchester city centre, but this is common with Subway stores tending to charge different locations based on the franchise. It's a clean contemporary space with plenty of indoor seating plus an outdoor area in a wonderful position beneath the cathedral. The cafe is busy from early morning until late afternoon right through the week and while previous review describes the customers as tourists I don't see this as a disadvantage as there is always a great atmosphere inside. The standard of the food offered is above cafe average with a hot plate as well as cold snacks. With regard to prices, I don't think the location is abused, prices are not inexpensive but they are not extortionate. A really nice cafe; quick and pleasant service, and it's not full of "God-botherers" either which was a concern of some prospective customers!
