Been here once. Nice local bar. Beer was good. Kind of small but good for locals. Wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Very nice and clean spot; great place to either catch a game with the guys or take the kids... Good food and well-priced.

We arrived at around 6:30 and the place was pretty much packed. (It's a much, much smaller joint than I would've thought.) We did manage to snag a sweet table by the window, but then we were informed that an acoustic musician would be setting up shop right behind us at 7:00. I figured we probably wouldn't last too long once he started performing, so we decided to just share an order of the Sausage Rolls ("honey mustard sauce"). They arrived to the table impressively fast and sure looked great. They tasted great, too. I might even go so far as to say they're among the best Sausage Rolls I've ever eaten. The sausage is really tasty and flavorful, while the pastry around them is just as good. The zesty honey mustard perfectly complements them, too. I really enjoyed my brief visit to the Henry VIII Ale House, and I look forward to returning at some point in the future.

And judging by the fact that it was packed with people waiting for tables, we weren't the only ones who thought so. There was a woman eating wings at the end of the bar ... they looked good! A guy had a bison burger next to us and it was HUGE! If we are in that 'hood, we'll definitely stop in again, especially for a meal.

I think I was intimidated because there's not much information about the joint online. I walked in and there were a few people having drinks, so I grabbed a seat at the end of the bar. After walking by for months and seeing the sign for their own Kanu Lager, I obviously had to order that. It's a very simple, very tasty lager that's super easy to drink. I'll definitely be drinking it again. I was feeling a little peckish, too, so I asked to see a menu. Everything sounded really tasty, so I asked for a recommendation and wound up with the Calamari Rings. They're surprisingly, shockingly good. They're perfectly fried and enhanced by a really tasty (and spicy) dipping sauce. I also want to single out the ambience and the service, both of which were tremendously appealing. It's a small, dark bar, which I love, and my server was helpful without being intrusive. I really don't know why it took me so long to check out Kanu. It's a really cool little place and I'm looking forward to stopping by on a regular basis in the future.

So when the opportunity arose to pop in for a quick drink and some food, I was pretty stoked. We showed up shortly after 6:00 on Thursday evening and the place was empty. As far as ambiance goes, the joint wasn't super promising; there was an oscillating fan sitting on top of one of the tables, a woman was caring for a baby near the back, and the music was being piped from a very clear Bluetooth speaker. Not great. The food and my drink fared slightly better. For my cocktail, I went with the Lucky Strike ("Lucky Charms Milk Punch + Nikka Days Whisky"), which I thought was fine. There was no real complexity of flavor and I thought that it was too sweet, but I basically enjoyed it. We got a couple of Dim Sum options, the Har Gow ("shrimp") and the Cha Sew Bao ("barbecue pork bun"), and they were both pretty middle-of-the-road but generally satisfying. The three accompanying sauces helped, too. I feel like Resurrection was having an off night, so I'll maybe go back and give it another shot in the future.

The Federal is a casual chill spot for all things brunch. They do get busy on the weekends so best to come on a weekday if you're able to. The menu has plenty of brunch options for everyone. I stopped by The Federal on a Monday around 10am. The place was pretty empty although there were a few customers. Ordered an Americano and the scrambled eggs with sausage. My beverage and food came at a reasonable time. Food wise, loved everything on the plate! The scrambled eggs were cheesy, the salad was refreshing with the pickled onions, the sausage tasted great with their house made ketchup and hot sauce, the toast was toasted perfectly, and the potato rosti was the perfect potato side to this breakfast plate. Service was friendly and staff were chill and attentive. Overall, great breakfast and brunch spot along Dundas St. W!

The brunch menu is short so I picked the Gold Standard Sandwich. I don't know what I was expecting, but it's really just a breakfast sandwich. I chose the bacon option (kale and impossible meat also available) and it was ... burned? Not sure if it was intentional but it definitely tasted very burnt. Otherwise the sandwich was pretty ordinary to me. The rosti was extremely oily and not seasoned evenly - one of my bites was essentially coated in salt, while others were bland. I didn't end up finishing. I tried a bite of my friend's breakfast burrito and it was good. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. The price was good, we didn't get any extras so I stayed under $20 including tax and tip. Service was also good, I just didn't enjoy the food.
