There isn't enough seating or tables for how busy this coffee shop gets. I also ordered a chai tea and it tasted more like hot water. Also, like I said the shop seemed pretty busy and only one person was both taking and making the orders so that could be the reason for the drink not tasting good. Found this place while visiting Baltimore. It's a different vibe in the best way possible. It looks closed from the outside because of how dark it is inside. When you go in you see all types of people quietly going on about the daily grind. It's the people's WeWork. The pastries are great, very flaky and buttery. I got the ham and gruyere and apple turn over. I recommend getting both. The coffees we got were so good. I got the Vietnamese iced coffee and my girlfriend got the tres leches latte. Both are really good, the tres leches is a dessert coffee. Wish I lived around here so I could come more often. read more

We came here very early on a Sunday morning. I really liked the vibe of this pastry shop. There were a variety of several small pastries to pick from and assorted coffees and teas you could order. I ordered a couple of pastries and they were placed in a convection oven to heat up quickly. I enjoyed the apple gruyere turnover. It was different, savory, with a hint of green apple flavor. The chicken pasty was also small, savory, and tasty. I felt the dough made for a flaky flavorful crust. They were both small snacks not meant to fill you up, but indulge in to get the day started. I came here to study seeing that it was a coffee shop that was open late. There are outlets available to use and the coffee and Matcha are delicious. However, there are plenty of homeless people inside just sleeping which does take up space in there wasn't that many seating options. read more

The bun shop is a cute little cafe located in Mount Vernon right by the University of Maryland Medical Center. Open until 3am nightly, this is the place to go if you need a place to get on the late night grind. The breads here are solid and they tend to have a variety of sweet and savory options, and gave a good selection of vegetarian friendly options. My go to is the classic rotiboy! You can never go wrong with this slightly sweet bread. Other good items that I've had are the char Siu bao (most like the baked buns, but not very authentic), the burger boy, and the matcha rotiboy. I have also tried the pho beef roll, the pizza roll, and the apple and gruyere but those were also only okay. Because their menu is so simple, they are able to quickly serve everyone. The thing that takes the longest time is for them to make their drinks, which are worth the wait! My go-tos are the Dos leches latte and the Thai tea. I have had their Vietnamese coffee (both original and chocolate) and have also enjoyed them. Seating here can really vary, depends on how busy it is but I haven't had trouble squeezing in somewhere before. The bathroom is a bit dirty, not very well kept, but understandable because they have very few workers here at any given time. There are a few outlets by the communal tables in the middle of the front dining area, but otherwise there are very few outlets. Make sure you charge all of your devices at home before coming here or else you might find yourself SOL! Pro tip: Bring your own extension cord if your devices are not fully charged before heading over here. read more

Noting that I am easily convinced by tastiness = level of sweetness hahahaha I came with a lovely friend who let me know that the collection of pastries they featured isn't quite authentic to the South Asian pastry names they have. The whole nature of the cafe is quite emo or comfortably edgy. Many customers regularly come and go from the couple of times I've come here. As a Hopkins student - it's a good place to study if you can find the times when it isn't too crowded! I had came here because google said it was for filled buns and empanadas so I was surprised to come in to see Indian spiced filled pastries mainly. I work from home and am always looking for public places with, at least, beverages and WiFi. I was wrapping up at one cafe and decided to try this one too. It will definitely have a purpose in my life just maybe not what I intended. The vibe was hipster - not what I was expecting but also not disappointed. It was decorated with a collection of furniture from various eras and styles. Super cool look for sure. It was later in the day so I just grabbed a chai latte and tried to get more work done. There are a few small tables/chairs but the larger ones are for community seating. I was a little distracted by neighboring convos, the lack of bright lights and the WiFi not working well for me. BUT that chai latte was one of the best ones, if not the best, I've had in Baltimore yet. I rarely finish the cup but I did that day and will again soon. The bun shop is a go-to in Baltimore for a place to study, or for coffee and buns!! They have a wide selection of drinks-- we tried the matcha and Thai tea both of which were delicious! They have the best mini ice cubes that just make the drink so much better. Met up with my friend here to try to figure out what we are doing with our lives, and for a brief moment we were able to enjoy the buns and coffee and forget about our existential dread. I got the breakfast bun. Super yummy eggs, sausage, and cheese! My friend got the Lemon bun and turnover. The lemon bun was described to me as light and lemony and the turnover was strong apple taste with nice pastry texture. this is absolutely the best coffee shop in Baltimore. The vibe is very study focused and there are plenty of extension cords/outlets so you can sit here all day and work. It's a med student hot spot that is open very late for any (almost) all nighters you would pull. The owner Minh is fantastic as well and very accommodating. There's another location in Towson that I want to visit but it wasn't open when I went (NY day so it makes sense). I hope to see this expand into a local chain. The coffee is really good, the only thing I would improve is the lighting, a more white yellow light so it's not as straining on the eyes for the those who bring physical books into the shop after dark. Has potential. The yelp reviews were very encouraging but the reality was disappointing. You walk into a large space which very dark and dirty. I came in around 8:30 AM and it was dead silent, there were no customers and no one working behind the counter... thought it was closed. The floors looked like they hadn't been cleaned for a while. The supposed "vintage" furniture is also very run down and is not well taken care of. The wifi is spotty. The latte was average-slightly average. The breakfast bun pastry itself was awesome but the contents tasted foul, like they used expired ingredients.... I will not be returning and recommend checking out another coffee shop until they rework some things. read more

Which is a mile from my house yet I decide to go to one in Baltimore. Just sayin'. Food Quality& Order: I order my usual. ICED Oat Milk Matcha Latte. It was delicious. First time visiting and the ambiance is quite to my aesthetic. It's dark, more on the quieter side yet so warm and welcoming. I didn't try any of the food but I had the Paris latte iced which was sadly disappointing. There's way too much ice so it's incredibly watered down and I wish there was just a tad bit more vanilla added in for that sweetness to kick in. It really just tastes like iced water with a touch of coffee and vanilla included. There's ample seating available with quite a lot of outlets too that make this place great for studying or doing some work. You definitely get the college/professional school vibe in this location. I decided to sit at a large table that sits 6 in the back of the cafe. It's a bit dim with the lighting but nothing unbearable (at least where I'm sitting). The bathrooms and some of the outlets are out of order too so that was a bit disappointing. The great thing about this cafe is that there's free street parking on Sundays (not sure about Saturdays) but this makes it so much more convenient for me and I'm sure for everyone else who doesn't live in Baltimore. They also stay open until 3 AM so there's a generous amount of studying time offered here for me. I'd definitely have to say this is my new favorite coffee shop! read more

The Bun Shop is kind of genius! I mean - a bakery that just makes buns from different cultures/cuisines?! When we were there they had about 10-12 different buns in a glass display case. We chose the rotiboy (a sweet Malaysian bun) and the kofta roll (a roll filled with Middle Eastern spiced meat) - both were delicious! They also have a full coffee menu; we both got americanos (our usual), which were also good. The cafe is open for dine-in, but there was only one person there when we arrived to order our buns and coffee on a Sunday morning around 9. We took ours to go, but then decided to enjoy them at one of the two small tables outside the Bun Shop since the weather was so nice! Overall, it was a really fun, delicious breakfast! I am taking away a star because this place reminded me of a more barren tous les jours or shilla bakery. Maybe it was the lack of light or the atmosphere being bleak but the food and drinks kinda matched. Nothing too special but it surely is a place I would study at. If you like caves this cafe is for you. This is coming from someone who is indifferent to caves and still enjoys this place. I love how dark and gloomy it is inside and is an amazing place to study or work. My go-to items are the Iced Vietnamese Coffee and the Rotiboy. Whenever I've gone, it seemed like a one-man show with the barista making drinks to order and heating up the buns one by one, which means you've got a bit of a wait. But it's an interesting space to lounge in if you've got the time. You'll appreciate the furnishings and antiques, and some people watching. I dropped in for a bit to grab one of their beef patties to munch on. I saw a man with a dog sitting on the couch. Yes, I totally sat on the couch for the chance that the pup would let me pet me. Borat: "Great success!" I didn't drink any coffee but can say that the beef patty was delectable. So flaky that it all about fell apart after this first bite and I know that the other pastries here are equally on point. Other than the slight chance that I may be able to pet a dog this is a place that I personally don't see myself hanging out here for more than a few minutes. I visited here for the first time about a week ago. This is not a fancy cafe type of vibe. I did like the vibe of the shop and I felt the vibe was fitting for the area. There was a water leak and water was being caught in a bucket and the condition of some of the furniture wasn't inviting. Hopefully the owners can get the needed repairs to keep the shop in decent shape. I tried a tea made from green tea and rice. I can't remember the name of it but I enjoyed it and had some honey added to it. I also had the chickpea curry bun which I really enjoyed. I had the Nutella chocolate chip cookie and that was ok. I would visit here again and would love to try more of the buns. My rating is mainly based on the bun and tea which would be the reason for my return. read more

This place is popping! Has unique coffee and breads aka buns. Haven't tried the food yet but coffee never disappoints. Downside is you can never find a place to sit.... and too many squatters that aren't doing anything but taking up space. I get it, you can't kick people out but you need to have more seats then. I came in today (1/25) around 11am to meet a friend for tea. My friend & I went up to the counter to make our tea selection. We both stood at the counter ready to order. Being that it was cold & we constantly have masks on, my nose was running & I needed a tissue. I politely asked the female cashier for the restroom, & instead of directing me she responds "the restroom is only for paying customers." (P.S. Surprise: my friend & I are Black...). ill make a condensed list of everything wrong with this place: 1. the place had a bunch of couches and fabric chairs with dark sweat stains? it looks like it's never been cleaned and im sure that if i swabbed it there would be a whole new ecosystem brewing up in there. 2. the big tables were sticky everywhere and i had to wipe them myself because the staff was outside busy passing a bong around. 2.5 the table emitted this potent stench of metal when i wiped it, gag inducing 3. the barista was rude for no reason, maybe they were having a bad day? i asked them to help me choose between a curry puff and a ham tart (?) and they just replied with "i dont eat meat, so i cant help you." okay.. 3.5 i chose the curry chickpea puff which was hard as a rock and gave my jaw a workout 4. the bathroom smelled worse than a porta potty on a cross country trail. i was scared to touch anything 5. the pastries were just left out on a rack with no covering with flies swarming around them 6. the sugar/cream self serve area definitely not food safe because the half and half was just out there on the counter for at least 6 hrs in 80F heat? read more
