In response to what Maureen stated about me personally, I want to share my version of the…read moresituation. Communication is extremely important when we are hired. The assignment was described as pet sitting 4 dogs with no special requirements. When I met with Maureen I found out at that time she has 6 dogs and we were taking care of 5 for 14 days. Maureen advised me at that time that all 5 dags had special diets and 3 dogs and were on medication. The eldest dog (Augie) was having trouble breathing and his hind legs were weak along with heart problems. I accepted the job even with all of that responsibility. Maureen was told that I have other commitments during the day and I would be able to visit the dogs mid morning and/or early afternoon. Maureen communicated to me after the first day of me being there that she was not happy that I was just doing a "drive by". I wanted to make sure Maureen felt comfortable with my services and since Maureen introduced me to her other pet sitter Joanne, I reached out to her to ask for support during the day. Joanne was willing to come over mid day as Maureen paid her to stop by and walk Augie if necessary. I stayed every night with the dogs, they all slept with me, were very comfortable with my support. Augie did not have any room so he slept on the floor next to the bed. I chose to give notice as Maureen as she kept sending negative texts and after 3 days it was apparent she was not happy with my service. I advised RentAGrandmaLV what I was going to do and RentAGrandmaLV was going to have someone else replace me. I did exactly what was required and the dogs were extremely happy. Augie and I walked every day at 5:45am and he did very well. When Maureen texted me on Sunday, May 24 stating to feed the dogs and my services were no longer required, I filled all of the water bowls, no pee on the floors and they were fed and medicated. The dogs were upset that I was leaving as we created a wonderful bond. Honestly I was very clear about MY times I would be with the dogs and Maureen accepted it. I always follow through with what is assigned and I do a great job. Also I learned a valuable lesson and I do care about what I do and I must get more information before I say yes!

I previously had a very positive experience with Rent A Grandma, which is why I used them again and…read moreoften recommended them. Unfortunately, this second experience was very disappointing. After my original pet sitter through Rent A Grandma was unavailable, they suggested I interview Magdalena, who was described as one of their best caregivers. Before my trip, we met twice to discuss expectations and my dogs' needs in detail. The main expectation was that the dogs would not be left alone for more than 6 hours at a time, with occasional flexibility if needed, and that my elderly dog needed to be walked daily. Magdalena assured me she would be spending a lot of time at the house with them. I also explained that I had arranged for my regular drop-in dog sitter to assist with walks because my elderly dog has health issues and does poorly without regular exercise. Her role was meant to be supplemental, not to replace the overnight sitter's responsibilities. Once I left for my overseas vacation, things quickly changed. Magdalena was generally only at the house overnight. The first day, my older dog did not receive a walk at all, and after that only received one 15-minute walk per day. When I raised concerns, I was initially told it was due to appointments and that the situation would improve the following day. Instead, she continued to be gone all day, from early morning (0600) until early evening (1730) while relying on my drop-in sitter to cover care that was never intended to become her responsibility. When I questioned the situation again, Magdalena became upset and quit over text, only staying through half of the agreed-upon time. She told me, "that's the beauty about me doing this, I can either do it or I don't have to, so I choose not to, you have a few days to figure it out." Being overseas at the time, this created a very stressful situation where I was suddenly worried about my pets and my home. Although Rent A Grandma did offer to help find a replacement, the experience had already seriously impacted my trust and peace of mind during what was supposed to be my first vacation in nearly two years. When I returned home early from my trip, I found multiple urine stains in the house that had not been cleaned, despite her leaving only a few hours earlier. The outdoor dog water bowls were also completely empty. Given the level of care discussed beforehand and the amount charged per night, it was extremely disappointing to come home to conditions suggesting very minimal time and attention had actually been spent caring for my pets. I appreciate that the company attempted to help resolve the situation, and I understand that not every caregiver will be the right fit. However, based on my experience, there was a significant gap between what was promised and the care that was actually provided. While I would still recommend Rent A Grandma overall based on my prior positive experience, I would not personally recommend Magdalena for situations that require a highly reliable, honest, dependable, and trustworthy caregiver, particularly where consistency of care and adherence to agreed expectations are important. If I was reviewing just Magdalena, there would be 1 star.

I hired this service with the expectation of a professional and straightforward experience, but…read moreunfortunately that was not the case. The worker scheduled to arrive at 10:00 did not show up on time, and when they did arrive, they did not have the necessary supplies to begin the job. This led to delays while waiting for a second person to show up, followed by even more delays when one of them had to leave again to get materials. During the visit, one of the workers took change from my counter and knocked my laundry room door off its track without notifying me or attempting to fix it. These actions were unprofessional and unacceptable. The pricing was also inconsistent and confusing. The Thumbtack listing indicated a $95 per hour base rate, yet I was quoted $450 for four hours. When a quote is given, it is typically understood to represent the total cost. However, the job only took about 2 1/2 hours. When I emailed for clarification and requested an itemized invoice, I was told their work wasn't really based on hourly rates, and I never received an itemized invoice at all. This made it difficult to understand how the charges were determined. While the tasks were eventually completed, the lack of punctuality, transparency, and communication left me disappointed. Based on this experience, I would not feel comfortable using this service again or recommending it to others.
