I went to Plains for the first time last week during a work trip. As you can guess, there isn't too many places to grab a bite in town. After checking out a few online menus, I landed on The Butcher's Nook for lunch. I got a cheese burger and mozzarella sticks. The burger was great and the bun and toppings were fresh. A great Mennonite restaurant, deli, and bakery. Definitely the place for a scratch made breakfast or lunch. I generally have a lite breakfast at home, so it took a lot of effort to finish my plate off. I couldn't stop, though, because it was all so fresh and delicious. Thick-cut bacon, perfectly cooked over-easys, and homemade preserves on bread baked that morning. I'm getting full just thinking about it. Wonderful and friendly owners, too. This place is only open for breakfast and lunch on weekdays. But it's super yummy! Great sandwiches, donuts, biscuits and gravy, etc. Also has a small store with other food items. The service is great and it has a lot of room for indoor dining. read more

Had lunch again here, ordered something we haven't had, a turkey sandwich, and chefs salad $9.25 and fries. The sandwich has so much meat in it and the chef salad. I should have taken a picture of it before I put the dressing on, piles with meat. We have never been disappointed no matter what we order. Everything was pretty tasty here. You order up at the front (there are no signs telling you where to order, so be prepared to be a little confused on that). Food was all good, portion sizes were pretty obscene, but if you have chickens at home to feed you can box up the extras and take it back, so that works out well. read more

My wife and I met up with my brothers and their wives at Quinn's Hot Springs. We got sick of the restaurant at Quinn's, somebody suggested we try this place. Friendly staff, family run business. We all got different types of sandwiches, everyone was pleased. My wife and I got some donuts, they were yummy. They have lots of cheeses and meats in the deli part of the restaurant. Had a variety of jellies to choose from in the store part, should have bought some. read more

There really aren't many choices to eat while in Plains MT. The Butcher's Nook is a recent addition...and what a surprise. I went for lunch, not having any cravings for anything specific. They have daily specials and today was a creamy ham cheese soup. It was pretty tasty, arrived hot...!!! I elected for a ham & cheese sandwich. It arrived grilled, hot...and exactly what my tastebuds were needing. But this restaurant is much more. They open for breakfast at 6:30am...a very convenient time, and close after the lunch period at 4:00pm. In addition to typical breakfast items they also have fresh doughnuts daily...oh yeah...!!! Like other reviewers have hinted about...I waited maybe 10 minutes to order, which I find okay (plus they we're busy), and maybe another 10-15 minutes for it to appear at my table. Not a real long time but considering what was ordered...well, it could be a little speedier. All said and done, good little restaurant, good food, and a good price. I'm satisfied...!!! read more

Loved this stop! First time walking in and there's so many goodies that you can snag- pickled good, fresh homemade breads, baked goods, meats, cheeses, sweet treats etc. My husband and I both got the buffalo burger and the mexi waffle fries.. I'm pretty sure both of us inhaled it pretty quick. The meat was cook well, nice and juice and the homemade buns sealed the deal.The waffle fries were crispy, seasoned and didn't last long. It will be our stop while going through this small town. This has gone from a top notch country type restaurant to a one-star place with disgusting food. I've tried it three times now, ordering three different foods, and eaten with other people each time, and all of the food was terrible every single time. when my group decided we needed to talk to the owner about it because local places are limited and we truly want the success of this establishment, we were told, "Eat somewhere else then." They do not care and rely on the fact that they are Amish-type people to keep their popularity. Skip this place and head to Minnie's in Thompson Falls or Quinns in Paradise where the food is consistently great! read more

Heads up: this business recently moved from the spot next to the ConocoPhillips Gas station right down the street on the right next to First Security Bank. The brand new location is spotless and spacious. The proprietors appear to be Amish or Mennonite from their apparel. They bake all the bread, burger buns and sandwich rolls on premises, and the crumb is light, the texture is fluffy- super fresh. The sandwiches are heaped with meat and cheese, I was stuffed after eating half. The burger patties are also generous. The onion rings are so good! Sorry about the no frills review, but we are on the road and I just wanted to get the word out on this excellent roadside stop in a darling one horse town. read more

My dad loved this place. The meat is a homemade type quality, I'm tempted to say like Amish or something, it just tastes natural and free of undue processing and chemicals. This place may not seem like much from the outside but don't let that fool you this little place is a gem! The food was absolutely delicious and the staff was truly wonderful. The pancakes are gigantic and the bread is so fresh and fluffy ! Even the coffee was good not burnt or anything . My son actually ate the ham and eggs and didn't make any fuss. This is a truly amazing place to eat! We stopped in for breakfast and the children ordered pancakes. Wow! They are huge! Full plate size and about an inch thick. Usually suck a thick pancake is doughy in the middle but these are done to perfection the whole way through. Their secret? Homemade dough, of course! They moved a few months ago so further down the street than the address says. Busy for lunch. Limited bakery bread and cookies. I had the chicken salad and my husband had the patty melt and onion rings. I was disappointed that they only have fountain Pepsi not Coke But the food was very delicious and service with a smile. read more
