A caboose! Every kids dream to ride in a caboose! I got to sleep in one! How awesome is that? It is wonderful. The A/C was perfect during This record heat wave in the 90s! So comfy! It is a perfect size for the night! There is a fridge with a freezer, a microwave, a coffee maker, a nice side chair, luggage rack. A shower, a nice bathroom sink with a vanity. There are chairs outside to sit and watch the world go by. It is fairly quiet inside also. We plan on coming up another time and stay as we found a wonderful old style restaurant... Sam's... just down the road. Also it is right next to the Titusville train which we plan to ride in the morning. All aboard! read more

I will start my review with the positives. There are only two: the staff, particularly the woman at the desk, was very pleasant and as helpful as they could be. And the bed was very comfortable. That's it. Now for the not-so-great aspects of our stay. Sadly, this will take a bit of time. It was the opening day of the season so we thought it might actually be the best experience. You know....rooms all freshly cleaned and checked and ready for the season. Nope. It started with check-in when credit cards could not be processed because the phone line was not working. The woman needed to write down all my credit card details so she could "keep trying." That's a little unnerving but we understood. Things happen. Then we go to our caboose (1001) and it has not been aired out - stale and beastly hot. Since no windows open, we left the door open and blasted the A/C. Then we looked at the room. Think Red Roof Inn with no remodeling since maybe 1980. Bad. But - OK - make the best of it. At least it was clean(ish). Bzzzz....bzzzzz....now what? Three wasps. Great. The desk clerk came with a swatter and a can of wasp spray. She got 1 and left the tools for us. Are we done? Nope. Next, we discovered that there was no water pressure at the bathroom sink or shower. Only a weak trickle/drip. Maintenance came pretty quickly but, after several back-and-forth trips, determined the problem could not be fixed for our stay. We had now been unpacked for a couple hours and were just about to leave for the evening. But first, we had to drag everything to a new room, 2 doors down. I guess this was actually a good thing since the 2nd caboose (1003) was marginally less shabby than the first. Marginally. After all of the issues we had, you would think we would be offered some token of compensation, some amount deducted from our bill. Nope. Not a word and, frankly, I didn't ask. We had been understanding and even cheerful throughout all the problems yet the business did not see fit to do the right thing. The biggest shame of it is that my husband, a train enthusiast, has wanted to stay at the Caboose Motel for a long time. We just never got there until we made a special point to go. Now we know and we don't need to do that ever again. read more

When I came across this motel, I knew I had to try it out. It is such a neat idea I wasn't sure what to expect and was not disappointed. There are around 29 cabooses lined up in a double row on tracks. Very clean and comfortable room. We were arriving after 9:00pm when desk was closing so they made arrangements for us to get our key which was perfect. I was impressed with how normal it looks inside and plenty of room. I know my kids would have loved this when they were little. It was a fun and unique place to stay. read more

This is one of the more unique places I've ever stayed. It is super conveniently located next to the Oil Creek & Titusville's Perry Street Station. Even if you are not into trains that much, you'd have to appreciate the charm and nostalgia offered by these cabooses turned into individual motel rooms. A couple of the cabooses are also dog friendly, which was great for us. Our kid absolutely loved the idea of sleeping in a train and being so close to all sorts of other trains for passengers and commercial use. The rooms were surprisingly nice and clean. The air conditioning worked great, though it was a tad loud. Prices are very reasonable. The only drawbacks for us were that the pillows are a bit flat and they only gave you two, the bed was a tad firm, and ice can only be retrieved (for free) from the office. A mini fridge would have been a bit more practical. read more

Let me start by mentioning that, if you want a hotel with a pool, work-out center, and breakfast bar, you're not going to give this five stars like I did. This is different - in a very good way. It's relaxing. The charm of sleeping in a real caboose is a big draw. The cabooses are all beautiful and sit on real rails. The rooms are larger than they look from the outside. Every caboose has its own porch where you can sit outside and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful sky. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They really want you to enjoy your stay. While you're there, I highly recommend taking a ride on the train and heading to Missy's Arcade for breakfast - easy walking distance, as is all of downtown Titusville. As a bonus, there's even a full service gas station in Titusville! How long since you've seen one of those, huh? read more

The Caboose Motel is a fun addition to the Titusville hospitality scene (and by that I mean the other motel not named the Quality Inn). The rooms themselves are rather uninspiring. They're light on the train theme (a plaque mentioning what the caboose used to be, and a picture of a locomotive), and otherwise contain some pretty outdated amenities (standard definition TVs DO still exist). But regardless of all that, it's still a decent and clean enough room, and it's located in the heart of Titusville, so you're close to everything that you probably need/want to be close to. I certainly wouldn't want to take up residency in one of these train cars, but if you're coming through Titusville, you should definitely try to stay here at least once. read more

Nice place. Yeah it's a motel but there isn't much to choose from in Titusville. Very nice theme. The rooms were clean. Older TVs but lots of channels. Free wifi that was strong and a good speed. Plenty of space inside but there's a lot of windows so it's tough to sleep in but hey, get out and enjoy the world. Pretty much like staying in a large RV. read more

Just spent two nights here. I am an admitted train fan and have wanted a reason to stay here for some time. Room was simple, but clean, comfortable, quiet. and felt safe. The bed was comfortable, the TV was fine-good selection of channels. Office staff were pleasant and helpful. Free bags of ice were available in office-I was told I could fill my ice chest-something you're told NOT to do in most hotels. Limited beverage options, but just 2 blocks from a convenience store- an easy and quick stop on your way back to the motel in the evening. The room price was EXCELLENT! I was alone the first night and my sister joined me the second night without any up charge. The room had 2 queen beds. If I had been traveling with a family it would have been an enormous bargain! Only downside was I would have liked a cube refrigerator in the room. I will DEFINITELY be back! read more

I was very much looking forward to my stay in a caboose, and I was not disappointed. The room was clean, cozy and for the most part comfortable. Both women I dealt with and check in and check out were both very nice. Each gave us their thoughts on where to have dinner and breakfast. Yes, the shower was small, but my 6'1" husband managed to shower and did not have one complaint. You obviously know ahead of time, that you may be staying in a caboose with a cupola, so if you want to sleep in and don't want the light streaming in, choose a different play to stay. It was extremely convenient for taking the train ride. We didn't have to worry about parking, we just got up early went to breakfast came back, and walked right to the platform. The wifi worked fine, but I wasn't there to play on my phone or laptop. The town itself is within walking distance. I would definitely go back. read more

Okay, let me throw out this disclaimer first...I'm not a hotel snob (if I was, would I be caught dead in a MOTEL of any kind?), so I won't bore anybody with how the towels weren't as soft as the Ritz Carlton; or how the brand of coffee in the room was domestic and not imported; or that the interior decorating appeared to be more of a hunting/outdoorsy style than anything remotely evocative of the railroad station located immediately outside the front door. The room is indeed, a remodeled old train caboose, which means it's a pretty good-sized motel room, with a stand-up shower in the bath (I know there's only that one kind of shower, but what I'm trying to say is there is no bathtub), a small desk area, a little place to hang up a jacket or a pair of pants, a hi-def TV (probably about a 26-incher, mounted high up in the cupola over the bed, which also includes several skylight windows that picks up cable and some hi-def stations), and, in our room, a king-sized bed that was actually two twins, I believe, pushed together. This, of course, made the bed the size of a small raft, which isn't really a bad thing, all things considered. A really nice room, but if you're one of those people who picks apart every little thing when you go to a hotel, you could probably find a small laundry list of issues that will make you bonkers. I won't run down the list for you; for one thing, I just expect a clean, comfortable room with the basic amenities when I travel, and that's what I found. For another thing, I hate those kind of people who nitpick. So come up for the train ride (you get a nice discount if you ride the train AND stay in the hotel), grab a nice dinner within walking distance of the station and the motel, then come back to the room, have a few drinks out on the deck (which you share with one of the cars next to you - a good point to remember if you're traveling with another couple or family), and grab a good night's sleep. You sleep in a caboose motel for the novelty, not because you can't find another hotel nearby. So I'm kind of baffled as to why this place takes the one thing they have going for them - the fact that they are motel rooms located in retired cabooses, and don't play up the theme at all. I figured the high price was justified by the fact that the motel was something interesting. Sadly, the only interesting part of this motel is driving up to your caboose and parking in front of it. Once you go in, the experience is exactly the same as staying in a crappy motel. No caboose or train themed decorations, no interesting architecture to make use of the caboose's shape, windows sealed shut and a broken TV and AC. The only thing that reminds you that you are in a caboose is the heavy metal door, which you get to wrestle with to keep it quiet so as not to wake the other patrons (we heard every single slam and open of our neighbors, since the cabooses are located so close together). Since the windows don't open (yikes), we had to rely on the AC throughout a hot July night. I'm not claustrophobic and I still felt uneasy in the space with all of the windows bolted shut. Because the steel walls block cell phone signals, it would have been really helpful that they offer free wi-fi. Except that the internet was down, so, yeah...I guess not. We turned on the AC at full throttle at 11AM to cool down the room, turned it down to medium at midnight and around 2AM the cooling element kicked the bucket and all we had was the fan to circulate the stale, hot air throughout the room. It's almost good thing we stayed in the motel during the summer, as no extra blankets were offered other than a thin, scratchy blanket that barely covered the bed. Instead of the typical shampoo & conditioner combo offered at most motels, they offer shampoo and shampoo with aloe...thanks? I almost always need to grab a pen make a quick note while at a hotel, so it was really frustrating that they didn't offer even the tiniest scrap of paper or writing utensils. Not to worry, wrestling with the door was the only interesting part of my stay, so I didn't mind having to head back to the car for every little thing. The shower stall was tight and cramped even for me (I'm 5'2" with a small build), with no shelves or hooks to store my soap or toiletries on, so taking a shower was a fun exercise of turning on and off the water and opening the shower door to grab things, or tripping over toppled bottles. Forget shaving in the shower unless you're very flexible (I am, and it wasn't pleasant). The only thing they had going for them was the fact that the room was relatively clean. Oh, and if you can regularly remind yourself that you are sleeping in a caboose, that would be nice. read more

Yes, it's not the Hotel Monaco down in Pittsburgh, It's a CABOOSE!! Our experience in the Bessimer Caboose was pretty cool. It was clean and comfortable and if you are at all a railroad buff or a fan of the unusual, this is for you. If you are looking for in room Jacuzzis and gas fireplaces, look elsewhere. One thing to keep in mind -- some of the cabooses have roof top cupolas with windows and some have extended side bay windows. Ours had the roof top cupolas, and there are no shades on the windows, so when the sun comes up, it shines right in. It's great if you are and early riser, but if you like to sleep late, opt for one of the cars with the side windows. Crossed "Sleeping in a caboose" off of my bucket list. read more

Not too bad at all. Fast quick easy check in. AAA discount was used for an even less expensive night's stay. Hot water shower which had tons of pressure. Heat and AC were just right. Room had a very comfortable king bed, coffee maker and cable TV. Only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars was the wifi and the tv. A flat screen angled towards the bed would have made watching it less straining. WiFi kept cutting out. But hey, the wifi was free so gotta deal with it. I'm sure the owners are working on it. The motel is really nice. I definitely would recommend to a friend. read more

Just checked in. Clean. Cool(air cond. works) Wi-Fi getting 5 Mbps download (i get 90-95 at home) Desk. Coffee maker. I have a cupola in my car and yes i can see that the light coming in from that might be a problem. Also the tv is from the 20th century. Flat screen update is seriously needed. Also a mini fridge would be a huge plus.Very unique experience but not for a long stay. The front desk person was courteous but offered little(no) information. It was a novel experience but nevertheless, a sleepless night. The skylights or cupola weren't able to be closed or covered. Despite all lights out in our room, our entire night was affected from a parking lot light. We had constant bright light the whole night from it. It was like being in Alaska. We were next to some sort of factory and when we opened our door in the morning, the first thing we smelled was heated plastic. Very weird. Several TV stations had no pictures but no sound. Very quaint little place to spend the night! It is not fancy - you are sleeping in re-purposed railroad cars - but it is a fun novelty. Everything was very clean and the staff at the front desk was helpful and friendly. It would have been nice to have a fridge in the room, but they told us that when we made our reservations so we brought a cooler and they provided ice. If you are a train buff, this is a great place to stay. Otherwise, it is a fun place to visit. Titusville doesn't have a ton of night life, but it is a cute little town to walk through and shop and there are some good restaurants. read more

So we just got back from the caboose motel. it was nice we wanted to stay in a caboose so we could say we did . I don't mind going with out a few things but when I cant get a good night sleep because the bed was so old and my back was killing me all night so needlessly i didn't really sleep at all.and one more thing the blanket on the bed smelled really bad , so i didn't have much to keep me warm . it was a fun time spending it on the train ride , would do that again it was not for those two things it would have been an more enjoyable weekend. read more
