We were not forewarned that fire alarms were going to be tested during our stay. Because of the noise, we were forced to go outside, where we were met by more landscapers making noise. To cap things off, a rancid smell became noticeable in the second floor hallway the day we arrived, then got progressively worse, so by the time we departed on the last day it smelled like something had died on the second floor. Other guests staying on the second floor also mentioned their concerns. We left notes for hotel management regarding our displeasure, but received no compensation. We will not be back!

Our room was dated but clean, it had a decent tv, a comfy enough couch, a little desk. The towels were clean, the shower had decent water pressure. Service: everyone was friendly but there isn't often someone at the front desk. Food: the breakfast isn't fancy but it is well prepared and sets you up for the day! We didn't have problems, but for hotels I try to convey the expectations. It's good home base for sleeping, it's central to a lot of smaller towns and a short tribe to Tionesta where they hold the firefly festival. If it was a four or five star experience, I would've given it that but you get what you get. It's the middle of the road place where you can lay your head.

Since no windows open, we left the door open and blasted the A/C. Then we looked at the room. Think Red Roof Inn with no remodeling since maybe 1980. Bad. But - OK - make the best of it. At least it was clean(ish). Bzzzz....bzzzzz....now what? Three wasps. Great. The desk clerk came with a swatter and a can of wasp spray. She got 1 and left the tools for us. Are we done? Nope. Next, we discovered that there was no water pressure at the bathroom sink or shower. Only a weak trickle/drip. Maintenance came pretty quickly but, after several back-and-forth trips, determined the problem could not be fixed for our stay. We had now been unpacked for a couple hours and were just about to leave for the evening. But first, we had to drag everything to a new room, 2 doors down. I guess this was actually a good thing since the 2nd caboose (1003) was marginally less shabby than the first. Marginally. After all of the issues we had, you would think we would be offered some token of compensation, some amount deducted from our bill. Nope. Not a word and, frankly, I didn't ask. We had been understanding and even cheerful throughout all the problems yet the business did not see fit to do the right thing. The biggest shame of it is that my husband, a train enthusiast, has wanted to stay at the Caboose Motel for a long time. We just never got there until we made a special point to go. Now we know and we don't need to do that ever again.

P.S. you do NOT need a license to drive the boat and all life jackets (except infant) are provided! You can bring food and alc/non-alc beverages on board for everyone to enjoy, except the driver, who can still enjoy a nice mocktail. The cabins were squeaky clean and have everything you need and more, most importantly: wi-fi, TV(s), heat, and A/C! Some cabins have their own deck, picnic table, and grill, but there are MULTIPLE community fire-pits and grills scattered elsewhere throughout. Even though we did not stay in a cabin right on the water, the second row was elevated high enough to still have a lake view! BIG BONUS POINTS if you have kids, as they have a HUGE lake-side sandbox like I've never seen before and an awesome playground! Hungry? Thirsty? No problem - take a few steps and you're at the connected Sunset Grill restaurant, which has a gorgeous view and observatory, live music on some nights, and my most-favorite feature, little dining cubbies for larger groups with your OWN, personal, controllable heat lamp and fan - absolutely brilliant. I interacted with two different ladies at the front desk and they were not friendly at all, and one was very annoyed by our simple questions. I feel like someone in that role at a resort, not just some random hotel, should be very welcoming and happy to answer any questions you have. This was just not the case. We began walking back to the room and there was a huge shift in appearance and aroma from the lobby to the halls of the rooms. It smelled like pee in some areas and like mildew in others. There were various stains on the carpets and it all looked quite dirty. I noticed that some rooms had a laminate floor instead of carpet, which is something that really needs done in the whole building. I'm sure they're in a transition between updating parts of the building, so hopefully it will see better days in the next few years to come. The bedroom itself wasn't smelly, so that was a plus. The bed was very hard & old, and the pillows were old too and very uncomfortable. There were some old dried up contacts left around. After I showered, I wiped the floor with a towel in the bathroom and the towel was very yellow. So I'm assuming that was from pee on the floor? Hotels are pretty much always gross, but I guess I had higher expectations because it's a resort and not a cheap one either... Anyways, I am grateful to have had a place to stay with all of my family, especially one SO close to the wedding venue (5 mins from the resort). It was easy to ignore a lot of these things with something so pleasant going on at the time. I just don't think I'd personally come back again on my own doing, or at least not until the resort sees an abundance of updates. They offer mini golf, ziplining, a pool area, a spa, paintball, gemstone mining, and a few other things. I did not get to try any of those due to time restrictions, but it made me happy to see that they have a solid variety of activities for the summertime! So we flew from LAX to Buffalo, NY, which allowed us to visit Niagara Falls (stunning) and then take a quick drive south to Bradford, PA (home of Zippo lighters). The first thing one notices when entering this part of Pennsylvania is how well-kept the homes and farms are. And when you turn onto the access road to the Glendorn Lodge, you see their farm-to-table patch of a vegetable farm. Once through the gate, the drive is a couple of miles to the main lodge and check-in. The staff are so wonderful and polite, calling us by our last names, which is very formal but a nice touch! Our home, cabin, was lovely beyond description. The master bedroom was stunning, the screened-in porch was perfect for 10 to 12 people hanging out (ideal for a family reunion), and we had an outdoor fireplace/pit blazing and roasting marshmallows for the kids. The next morning, we rode bicycles that you keep at your cabin home. We went out on a small lake with paddleboards, canoes, kayaks, etc. We also played volleyball and had lunch catered and delivered to the lake - fantastic service. The next day we played tennis, swam, basketball and even shot skeet! As our time at Glendorn came to a close, we reflected on the unparalleled service and the deep sense of relaxation we experienced throughout our stay. The staff truly went above and beyond, ensuring every detail was perfect, and their personalized approach made us feel like cherished guests rather than just visitors. To cap off our trip, we took a leisurely drive back toward Buffalo, savoring the memories of Niagara Falls and our time at the resort.
