It was our anniversary and we wanted to have a special meal. Our server was very pleasant but new so she didn't have alot of experience with the menu. She had someone help her twice and that's okay but maybe some training would be helpful. I had the balsamic sirloin steak and my husband had the pork loin. I know sirloin isn't the greatest cut but even with a steak knife if was tough. The garlic potatoes my husband had were just barely warm. I am not a complainer but we were disappointed. read more

We've always enjoyed going to Cactus. The new menu is fantastic. And so is the service!!

It takes serious talent to make food this bad. Shrimp that burns your nose, the chemical smell is so bad. On the plus side, they removed it from the bill. Ribs that are tough, dry, and flavorless. Chicken wild rice soup that is nearly inedible, it's so salty. The only thing we were able to eat were the mashed potatos (bland, but inoffensive), and the saltine crackers that came with the soup. Positives: the wait staff was nice, and the Coke tasted correct. read more

A group of us rented the golf simulator for a couple hours and had a great time! Afterwards I ordered supper and it was phenomenal! I highly recommend the balsamic sirloin! read more

Great experience tonight! From the moment we walked in the door we were enthusiastically greeted by the hostess. Our server Cathy went above and beyond to make our visit fantastic. We had our energetic 5 yr old grandson with and she was great with him. Cathy and the kitchen staff were so accommodating. It was my grandsons birthday the next day so at the end of the meal she made him a Sundae. I'm so blown away by the service that I almost forgot to mention how delicious our meals were. The Cactus catered my son's wedding in Detroit Lakes. The food was good, service was fine. However, they didn't have enough food. They ran out of the passed hors d'doevres and the head table only got 1 each. Not sure why they didn't have platters of hors d'oevres set aside for head table that was out doing pictures during much of the cocktail hour. They also seemed to run out of the main dishes. It was clear they did not actually make the amount of food that was ordered (for 130 people). We only had 120 people and they ran out of one of the main dishes. We believe they chose not to make the amount ordered because they knew there was a second caterer with wood fired pizzas there as well. Also, they made a mistake on one of the hors d'oevres and instead of asking the couple if they wanted it served anyway, they just didn't serve it. Groom asked later and they said they would refund him for it, but the feeling was if he hadn't asked he wouldn't have been refunded. Also served bruschetta off of a wooden board with no napkin or plate which is difficult to eat and messy. The worst was that they had it in their contract that all leftovers become property of the caterer. Apparently this is for liability? Seems odd since they paid for all of this food and there should have been leftovers. There was also a refrigerator on site where they could have safely stored them. They would not even allow the bride and groom to sign a waiver to be able to keep the leftovers that they paid for. Would definitely not recommend this caterer for your event for these reasons. read more

Went here while vacationing in Minnesota. The atmosphere is so cute and welcoming. We actually went there twice will up there. I got the turkey Swiss sandwich the first time and a French dip the next, both delicious. Their fries are the main reason I'm giving them a 5 star rating, so yummy! I can't really give this place a full review as I was here for a wedding. I will say the service was great and it was decorated nicely. My son had the chicken strips and fries and those were very tasty! In case you missed my tip on here, their ranch is homemade and was very good! They served a taco bar for the wedding guests. They were good about refilling empty containers. The shredded chicken was good. We would definitely go back here to check out the full menu and give a review about more of their food. read more

Wow is all I can say! It is a Saturday afternoon and after ordering our food we were informed that you're out of flatbread. Okay. We changed our item to wings. "Out of wings" Um okay. Let's do the French dip.."I'm sorry we are out of French dips and phillys" Seriously? I guess we will just do the mozzarella sticks. GUESS WHAT?!?! YEP! Out of those also! I feel like I'm on an episode of punked! Why in God's name are you even open?? Absolutely ridiculous and of course no manager around. We had planned on bowling after lunch. HELL NO. You should be ashamed of your business. I will definitely be getting the word out to steer clear from here! Unbelievable! Edited to add that the response for this review was responded by a team member/owner? to which I responded with some helpful advice on how being out of several items should have been handled. Examples: tell the customers BEFORE being seated that they are out of 7 plus items on the menu OR make the waitress aware so when customers are placing orders he/she can let said customer know. My response was DELETED on Facebook and re edited. A special thanks to the responder for getting my name right on your edited response, classy! Love the atmosphere and decor. The menu has lots of options from salads, burgers, pastas, sandwiches, seafood, and steak. I had the BBQ Burger which has pulled pork, cheese, coleslaw, and bbq sauce. It was pretty good, nothing outstanding. My boyfriend had the chicken Alfredo which was made with breaded chicken and was sub par overall. He was disappointed in the meal. Absolutely terrible!!! The worst!! Friday night all you can eat fish fry. Let's just say me and my wife each got 1, yes 1 piece of fish each. Gave us uncooked soggy fish that was falling apart. Sent that back. 20 min later we got a new piece. Just as bad. Asked for more and was told the fish is frozen, that's why it's not cooking right and we can no longer get fish. Wtf!!! However, I received a response from management at The Cactus, and they assured me that this is not normal for them and they'd like to make it right. I think that speaks volumes for this company, and considering in the past we've had decent experiences, I added a few more stars to my review and we will be giving The Cactus another try in the future. read more

This is a pitiful managed restaurant, ordered and told they were out of that item at 12 in the afternoon hmm, ordered another item and was told they were out of that also, proceeded to order 3 other items and yep they were out. NEVER before has this happened at any restaurant I have been to. Ended up not ordering anything after being disillusioned by it all and just eating off of my daughters plate. Not even a offer of compensation for this debacle. Hey how about a trip to the local market to stock up to get by , my goodness out of everything before noon and we were the only ones there., and for goodness sake clean up your parking lot of litter and cigarette butts. Attended a banquet in their lovely north woods themed event center which was catered by Tue Cactus and it was really superb ! I was wowed by how perfectly prepared and how delicious each dish was. The prime rib is great, the broasted chicken is excellent, good salads, the au gratin potatoes are fantastic, and service is top notch. Over the years this has become a guaranteed stop at least once during our week of fishing. One night this year though we all ordered ribeyes and I have to say they were terrible, tough and grisly and flavorless. That's the only bad meal I have had here, so I have to dock a star. read more

Great food, friendly atmosphere, and excellent service. I have had the Halibut and fajitas and recommend them both. My colleagues have enjoyed the salmon and the trout with only good things to say. I had one of the best burritos I have ever had. They are very unique in that they cook up the burrito in a oven to crisp the shell, then they add more cheese, salsa to the top and serve with chips and more dip. We experienced the worst service that we have ever had tonight at the Cactus. Our waitress repeatedly ignored us and did not return to ask for drinks or if we needed anything. The entire process took 2 hours and 15 minutes, and our food took an hour. Drink orders were forgotten, orders were wrong. The management was made aware, glanced at our table and never acknowledged us. The food was good but the service was so disappointing that we will not return. We were then told that we would receive a discount, and we did not see it on our bill. When we asked our waitress about it, she said "oh, it's there."
