While vacationing in Alberta, Canada last year we stayed in a cool little town called Canmore.
At the entrance of the town lies this Big Head on the ground. Why is it here you ask? Well, here is the story. Alan Henderson an artist from Alberta was commissioned to build a sculpture for the town. The artist took inspiration from the towns name. The town is named after Ceannmore which lies on the northwest shore of Scotland. In Gaelic, Ceannmore means "Big Head" and this what Henderson created.
The Big Head looks like he is either meditating or in deep thought to me. I was so surprised to see this sculpture but loved it at the same time. It is carved from blue granite and has become a symbol of the town. It was installed in 2008 and the town has embraced it. It evens sports different hats, scarves and costumes through out the year.
