I stopped in the other night while the family was a few doors down. I had a craving for their Reese's peanut butter cake, and I hadn't had any since my pregnancy with my youngest. I was super bummed they didn't have any, but we did settle for their peanut butter chocolate marble cake. I'm a personal sucker for lemon anything, so their lemon blueberry was a no-brainer. We had to take a red velvet cake bomb home as well. It's a big "cake pop" coated in chocolate ganache. It was my personal favorite! This cute little shop hasn't changed since the last time I set foot in there. The older lady working in the evening was a doll. She was friendly and patiently answered all of my questions. The frosting wasn't overly sweet, but our cake slices were on the dry side. I wish at about $9 a slice they were dated, so as a consumer, I knew when it was baked. The cake bomb is the way to go if you want dry cake or wash it down with a glass of milk. *They do a stamp card here, so ask for yours when you check out.* With their prices creeping up, I'll have to rethink my next visit to buy a dry slice of cake. read more

Is this place really closed !? Saw it ain't so. The information on here and Google is conflicting. I remember getting my birthday cake here and it was the most reasonable. It was beautiful work. The last time I was here didn't seem that long ago. With a mm other and daughter duo. Super sweet. I am sad to see this this spot go. I remember they had one location then two then five. My friend ordered a really beautiful, great tasting cake from here for her birthday, so I thought I would try it out too for our gender reveal cake. I placed the order over the phone and asked them to use their expertise in decorating the cake. When I saw it, I was super disappointed it looked like something I could have gotten at a grocery store and I paid $85 for it when I could have paid less than half at the grocery store bakery. The cake was also overly sweet and the presentation was horrible for me to present to my guests. It was placed in a top cut-off cardboard box clearly not made for a cake. They have so many flavors to choose from, and when I visited there were special flavors like a vanilla raspberry. I love the lemon blueberry and German chocolate as well! Came here to check out all the hype and to grab a few different slices for my dads birthday. Walking in I was a little surprised because the the spot doesn't have much inside outside of a register and a fridge. It made to difference to me but was interesting. I ended up grabbing their Chocolate Chocolate, Oreo and Chocolate Raspberry slices. Something to note: The slices are basically frozen and they give you the heads up to eat them after they have been resting in room temperature for a little while. I figured my drive home (5 minutes) on a hot day would have been sufficient but when I got home it was very apparent that more time was needed. This was a bummer because we all were looking forward to enjoying them. Each slice was a good sized piece but were they big and tasty enough for the $9 price tag...not really. BUT as the reviews here show that's obviously an unpopular opinion AND that doesn't mean I wouldn't ever come back because I'm sure I will. It just means I would only come back if this was a planned in advance decision and not a spur of the moment kind (which is how most of my dessert/life decisions are haha) . We pulled up to get some cake not realizing they were closing.. the store lady was just walking out the door as we pulled up and I asked if she was closing to which she said "Nope! Come on in! I'd be happy to help you!" (She was closing but decided to help us - so rare these days!) I feel bad I didn't catch her name but she was delightful. Since we hadn't ever been in before she turned back on the menu monitor and explained each of their offerings in detail. We never felt rushed. The store is so cute. Small with a table and chairs for people to sit and eat on site if they wanted to. We didn't want to hold her up so we chose quickly and thanked her for her amazing customer service. Craving cake and called to see which ones they had. Been there before and was not impressed but thought I'd try it again. Sent someone to get the butter pecan toffee and the lemon raspberry ones. I don't think that the person who worked there understood and only put in the butter pecan. Well either way it was not good. Had better cake from Safeway. We tried it for the first time and no one out of the 6 of us liked it! Not even my 5 year old who is a sweet tooth fanatic! The service was good and the store was clean. We got a slice of the Vanilla Raspberry, a slice of Pumpkin Spice and a funfetti cake bomb. The cake part was ok, but the frosting tasted like I was eating powdered sugar from the bag. Not one of the 3 we got had that cake flavor. The only thing I could taste in the Vanilla Raspberry was the raspberries, the Pumpkin Spice was dry, and the Funfetti cake bomb was hard and dry! We went to the one in South Reno by David's Bridal. Maybe it was just this store since they are now a franchise!? I don't know, but I'm willing to give it a try again, but at a different location. Wow!! I'm super excited! Or maybe on a sugar high... or a little bit of both! While waiting for the orthodontist across the parking lot to open, we decided to wander in and see what The Cake Slice was all about. It's a cute little shop with a huge menu of decadent, delicious cakes baked in-house and sold whole or by the slice! My son and I decided to share a chocolate peanut butter slice and we have zero regrets. The cake is most, fluffy, and delicious. The bits of peanut butter cup made it so nice in both flavor and texture. I don't generally like frosting but theirs is so nice that I almost ate all of it. It's so nice and smooth and flavorful. I am so happy we discovered this place that I didn't even realize existed until today! What a lovey treat on a Friday afternoon. Everything looked and sounded so good on the menu. Visited the Cake Slice for the first time yesterday! What a yummy treat! The owner George is so sweet, told me about the business and was the only person behind the counter. First, Cake Slice faces Los Altos and is located between Yogurt Beach and Gourmelt. The storefront is pretty bare and open. Against the back wall there is a counter, curved glass refrigerator and then a standing refrigerator behind all of that. George stated they start with about 15 flavors each day. There were about 9 flavors when I arrived at 5:30PM. We choose vanilla raspberry, chocolate chocolate chocolate and lemon blueberry. They were all DELICIOUS. They each had their own density and flavor. For example the chocolate was much more fluffy and light with a lighter frosting. Where as the other two were a little more dense with heavier frosting. The ones with fruit have big fresh juicy pieces of fruit in them, great quality. The cakes were all very rich and sweet, but not too heavy. I believe they were priced at about $8ish a piece. The pieces are generous and can easily be shared. If you are looking for a fun treat, surprise, or gift in the Sparks area. Check it out! read more

I have been watching to see when The Cake Slice would open ever since I saw the sign go up awhile back. I had never been to The Cake Slice at their other locations, but the name intrigued me. I think the location is wonderful! It is right next to Yogurt Beach (think about cake and "ice cream") and very close to Gourmelt. Getting takeout from a combination of any of the three totally makes sense. When I was driving by today, I saw a lit "Open" sign and my van basically went on auto-pilot and took me there. LOL The customer service was wonderful. The gentleman (sorry I did not get his name) was friendly and told me all about everything. I chose a slice of Chocolate Toffee Caramel and a slice of White Chocolate with Mixed Berries. The flavors vary to some extent each day. Of these two, we like the Chocolate Toffee Caramel the best. I am thinking that any of their regular chocolate flavor combinations would be really good. The White Chocolate with Mixed Berries was really tasty, too, but the regular chocolate was more our personal style. The mixed berries were really fresh and tasty. If offered, I would definitely get a slice of regular chocolate cake with fresh berries; that would be amazing. We will definitely go again! Likely often. Each slice costs $8.60 (with tax included). Each slice practically fills a large to-go box and can easily feed 3-4 people. If you want a large serving each, than 2 people would be MORE than satisfied splitting a slice. Some say they are a little pricey, but if you consider the quality and the flavors and compare them to the costs of small cakes you can get at nice grocery stores... their price is right on point. These slices are likely much fresher, too. I am relatively frugal, but I feel these slices are totally worth it. I definitely recommend The Cake Slice. read more

I love straight forward names. No mystery with this one, you're getting a cake slice! My husband is a chocolate and peanut butter fanatic so he's tried a couple different flavors and has had some highs and lows with the taste and freshness. I've only ever had the funfetti but have the same experience. Most times the slice tastes fresh, but sometimes it tastes like you got the slice they were just trying to unload. You will get a slice of cake and even though the slice is not as large recently, it's still plenty of cake. You're told to let the cake come to room temperature before eating but I actually like it more when it's a little chilled. The Sparks location has friendly staff but the shop itself does not invite you to stay to enjoy your slice. We first visited when COVID was raging so it made sense that there were no places to sit or relax. But now I think that's just the atmosphere they're going for. So plan on trying this place out but you'll have to get your slice to go. read more

I went to the NW Reno location, but could not find a Yelp page for that specific location. Either way, this place deserves 5 stars regardless of location! I have been here a few times and have always had an awesome experience. This was one of those businesses that made the most of their circumstances during the COVID19 pandemic. When celebrations and gatherings were no longer happening, there was suddenly no more need for cakes to share with others. The owner started selling cake by the slice to continue making some money during the pandemic. What a great idea!! I've certainly craved just a single slice of cake before, but I would never go to the store to buy an entire cake just to have a slice. When you are craving some cake, this is the place to come! There are a variety of flavors and the cake slices are huge, so you definitely get your moneys worth. I've tried the lemon blueberry, seasonal spice cake in the fall, and now the strawberry chocolate marble cake. They have all been splendid--perfectly moist, flavorful, and just the right combination of toppings/ingredients. On my most recent visit today, they had some new grab-and-go items in their fridge like mini cakes, cake cups, and cake slice bombs. I Paid $167 dollars for a vegan cake for a baby shower. Their decorating options were basically a color with another colored trim and writing. When I got the cake it was lopsided and looked like it was decorated by my 10 year old. I will say the cake did taste good read more

Let me start off by saying the cake was good (looks like it came out of my kitchen but still good). However, the owner/lady on the phone was absolutely miserable and RUDE. I called to order a cake for my mother's birthday, the first year she had requested one. So i figured I should support a smaller business, BIG MISTAKE. When asking for a lemon raspberry cake on the phone I had also inquired about including an almond profile. The lady then proceeds to say "Eghhh....I receive hundreds of phone calls and have never heard of such a thing...you want almond????? With pure disgust and judgment in her voice. Even if you don't like the flavorings I requested why not try and recommend other good options or try to be helpful in any way possible rather than just be completely condescending and hypercritical. I've worked in customer service and phones for over 7 years and never would I act the way she did, ESPECIALLY to a customer who is being nothing but kind and supporting your business. So afterwards she proceeded to call her baker and see if it was "even possible". There are PLENTY of recipes online for the exact combination, so maybe their inexperienced baker can look some up the next time they face such a "CHALLENGE". I would've just followed a recipe and made it myself however that isn't possible with two full time jobs. Even after that horrid phone call I proceeded to support their business (wish I didn't,never will again) and when I went to pick up the cake the lady was just as miserable sulking in her chair in the corner. First thought was that it's pretty pricey for a slice of cake, but it is a decent size. Employee let us know to let it come to room temperature for at least 15-20 mins before wanting to eat it. We waited about 30 mins, and tried the carrot cake first. I was very disappointed with that, as carrot cake is my favorite kind of cake. I was expecting the usual cream cheese frosting, but it was just a regular frosting and the cake itself was very bland and dry. The German chocolate was a little better flavor wise but still dry. The chocolate chocolate chocolate was the same. Flavor was alright but dry as well. Not a fan and don't understand the hype of this place. Raley's make better cakes and they're half the price.
