I took my grandkids to this sweet spot while on vacation in Colorado Springs. They were very patient with Nana during my shopping trip downtown and deserved a treat. I travel a lot and the kids usually get to drag me into a candy store on every trip at least once so I think Ive had enough experience to say this place is a great spot for sweets! They have a little bit of everything in the candy department and several things I haven't seen before or candies I haven't seen in a long time. My favorite thing about this place was the bulk candy section! They have all the candy pre bagged in small baggies so you can still get the great bulk prices without the germs!!!! Also discouraged my littles from loading big bags with tons of sweets that don't end up getting eaten because they get gross being mixed with other candies!!! The offering of cold drinks was large and unique. The service from the staff was great as well! Walking in makes you immediately feel like a child again. We like to go here as a treat a few times a year with the kids and they enjoy it every single time. They are pre-bagging candy and leaving those in the candy bins for you to grab, which honestly, is probably saving me money! Lol! After our adventure at the skirted heifer, we decided to continue with our luck and walk our semi-happy teenager down to the Candy Bar. Now, truth be told, this visit was not for her, but for me. I LOVE me a good candy shop!!! Like, LOVE!!! I walk in and it immediately looks cute and smells sweet. The cashier gave us an upbeat hello and smile. We looked around, purchased a few novelty candies and bulk candies and my husband purchased some truffles for our anniversary (to be celebrated later at the Rabbit Hole). The prices are very reasonable, but the true gem was the cashier. She was so cute and friendly and made silly jokes with us the entire time in the store. We passed by Candy Bar when my wife and I were walking to the Skirted Heifer for dinner and said we'd enter on the way back to our hotel. We did exactly that and weren't disappointed at all. At first blush, this is a rather straightforward candy shop. You have wrapped candy on the left side when entering, along with exposed candy in closed, clear-plastic shelving along the middle and back of the store. As soon as we entered, the kind cashier welcomed us to the candy shop. He also reminded folks to use the clear gloves if we wanted to get candy out of the plastic bins, something other reviewers found obnoxious. I didn't find it annoying, so I remembered it and kept it moving. I ended up getting some white chocolate birthday cake cookie bites and 10 white chocolate, milk chocolate, and milk chocolate caramel truffles. The total came out to just under $15, a price I found reasonable. As I expected, all of the chocolate was wonderful. I especially liked the white chocolate birthday cake cookie bites. I also liked the cashier and his upbeat attitude. He's conversational in a good way and has a positive personality (if you're reading this, good luck with your Italian and Hindu!). Heaven.... They sell all candies in the world. Brought back so much memories coming home from elementary school and my grandparents would give the kids $1 then we would all walk to 7-11 and buy all kinds of candies. Back then $1 had you feeling like a baller! Anyway the candies they sold were the candies we used to buy as a kid, colored chickets, fake cig gum, and more. After dinner we decided the kids needed a special treat so why not try a place called The Candy Bar! The man working was so pleasant and kind to the kids, showed them around the store, and they each picked one thing. My husband got a piece of in-house made fudge (delish!). The man working also gave each kid a small package of smarties for being so well behaved. They felt so special and it was magical to them being in an old fashion candy shop (they're 2 and 4). Holy cow. This place is a dumpster fire. The kid behind the ice cream counter must have never bought ice cream before. Literally didn't know how to work the scooper, and also gave the most measly "scoops" I've ever seen. The drum for the first flavor we got was essentially empty, and I said to him that he wasn't gonna get another two scoops out of it. He went and tried, and sure enough he didn't get two scoops out of it. However, he didn't try and make it right and get another drum of that flavor, he just gave us those two deflated scoops. After I told him how pathetic the size of the scoops were for the price, he proceeded to give me a third, and equally ridiculously small scoop for our last one. These are $4 per scoop by the way. AS OF MAY 2013: On my third visit, my fiance and I walked in seeking information on some possible decor options and offerings for a large party, and the girl helping us out was uber-nice. We learned they could order whatever candy we needed in bulk and that they'd get it in at a discount for us within about a week. Even though we have ultimately decided on other decor avenues, we did end up buying several colorful, enormous lollipops for ourselves. Cute, sleek shop with retro vibes oozing out of the colorful candy displays, while nostalgia breathes from bins filled with vintage sweets. Funky stuffed toys are displayed against one wall. Everything looked so inviting! I was impressed by the friendly service. The shop isn't as magical with the old-timey charm as, say, Powell's Sweet Shoppe in Boulder, but I'm happy to have Candy Bar in downtown Colorado Springs as it brings a sort of youthful vitality that contrasts with the string of nightclubs nearby. This was a nice little candy shop. Very helpful cashier. The only weird thing was the boxes in the middle of the floor as they were restocking - but nbd. The candy bins had little pre-bagged bags of candy in them, presumably for cleanliness, which I appreciated. It was pricey, but basically the same as any other a la carte type candy shop. I wish they had candy sticks in a bunch of flavors like they do at some touristy shops. This is a really cute retro candy shop. Some of your old time candies and sodas, but also lots of fun new modern candies. They also have TONS of different colors of sixlets. I've never seen sooooo many colors of chocolate candies! They had matte and shiny colors.... I was so impressed by the collection of sixlets! They also have fudge at the counter, I had to refrain since I already had too much candy by the time I got to the register. Next time I'll have to try the fudge. read more

We go here quite a bit while we are downtown. While we were buying drinks and candy, I paid for a card. The man behind the counter was very nice and was asking about my husband's patches on his jacket. I handed the card got to talking and realized I hadn't got it back. We were a block up the road. When I called and asked about my card I was immediately snapped back with ,"I gave you your card!" Before I was even asked the name on the card or even an apology. I was told the manager was in a meeting and would get a call. We were just up the road at Ohana so we drove to the candy bar. The girl that was wearing a dark tye dye shirt was very rude again and said," I have no card and he is still in the meeting!" After receiving no call for several hours, I called back and yet again didn't get to talk to the manager and talked to the rude girl that said," he doesn't have it, he gave it back!" When I asked to talk to him I got a very sassy and rude," he isn"t here anymore." Point blank I won't be spending anymore money in there and if these shady characters decide to spend my money there will be further issues met. I am a manager at my job and all of this was dealt with very unprofessionally and with a lack of care or sympathy. Mistakes happen and I know people get to talking. There needs to be obvious retraining in customer service skills and better business practice across the bored. Don't go here unless you potentially want to be lied to about your property. read more

Very strange experience. Walked in with my 2 and 5 year old sons who are quite well behaved when they need to be. Was greeted by a guy wearing a beanie doing some sort of jittery techno dance who informed us we must wear gloves just to use the utensils to put candy in a bag. He also informs me that he has to "drop kick" most of the kids for putting their hands in the bins. Their are at least 6 different price points some in the same cases and their are signs that say "pay attention to the price." Just a terrible concept and unprofessional operation. The guy watches us like a hawk the whole time. It was extremely uncomfortable. We certainly didn't want to get drop kicked. Finally my son picks up a very overpriced $6.25 sucker from one of those little skinny racks with holes for suckers at his level and drops the sucker. This knocks another off. They were both chipped. Before I could even assess the situation I hear the guy in the beanie telling me if they broke that I have to pay for them. I told him no way I'm giving him $13 for two lollipops. If they are that delicate and valuable put the stuff up. This is a kids candy store not a gallery. The guy said that I would have to pay for the suckers or that I could pay for the other candy we had put in bags and leave. Can you say scam. We left immediately and didn't but a thing. Great opportunity to teach my young sons about the value of self respect and who deserves our business. They were just as happy with ice cream from around the corner. Looking through reviews obviously this is a pattern. This place is a disappointment. Like you are in an episode of Portlandia but not even as cool because you are only on Tejon Street in Colorado Springs. Move along Candy Bar. Or at least fire that joker and lighten up. Customer service here is an obnoxious announcement (every time a customer walks in the door) proclaiming that all customers must wear gloves prior to serving themselves candy with tongs into their bag... They ominously threaten you with paying for an entire bin should you forego the gloved hand approach and use the... utensil that has been sitting out all day in the free and open air. Ok. They have security cameras in a candy shop... they watch you like hawks. It makes you scared to move around. No samples allowed here... even if you ask an employee. It's all buy at your own risk. They'll charge a dollar if you take a nibble of a gummy bear. Not inviting, not welcoming. We went to a warm and inviting candy shop down the street and were treated very nicely. Ended up buying $7 of fudge and some sodas. Don't give these people your money. They have no confidence in their products otherwise they wouldn't rely on charging you for the whole bin and $1 per sample morsel. Not a friendly ma and pops type place at all. Feels too corporate. Customer got yelled at while we were there and let them know "alright, that's fine, you just lost my business". He too ended up joining us at the shop down the road. read more

Meh. Seemed cool from the outside. As soon as I walked in the clerked yelled "Welcome! Don't touch the candy and make sure to wear gloves!" Kind of off-putting to be reprimanded as soon as I entered. Then atop the candy bins there are more signs with angry rules, "if you touch candy in this bin you will be forced to buy the whole bin." I understand it's difficult to make a profit being a small business but the bossy signs do not help. read more
