The Captain's Golf Course in Brewster has a private club feeling with nicely landscaped grounds, bright clubhouse with a large terrace, well stocked pro shop, driving range, and most importantly, two well maintained courses, Port being the more challenging of the two. I find it's the best option on Cape Cod for a beautiful round of serious golf on a public course. Super friendly staff to boot.

8th hole really gets interesting when you reach the rise above the green

While public, Captain's is professionally run. Two excellent 18 hole tracks, true greens, rangers keep place of play. Solid experience.

It rained on and off all day and when it came time for the wedding, we were uncertain if the wedding would take place on the beach or in doors. The shuttle driver was also not sure (wouldn't the resort notify the drivers if the wedding was moved)? They apparently did not (especially since it was raining) and we were dropped off at the registration desk, until we knew for sure if we should go to the beach for the ceremony. We made it to the beach eventually and the drizzle continued, but we stopped at the beach bar for a cocktail before the wedding took place---The beach bar was fun before we were told to go to the beach for the ceremony, (which did take place on the beach)---- and it was absolutely beautiful!!! . The reception was also beautiful and the food was great at the reception. The wedding experience was absolutely wonderful and we are so happy for the bride and groom--that the wedding day was as they planned!! I am going to write another review about the accommodations, since I would like to separate the wedding experience (which was wonderful) from the accommodations! Looks like I can only write one review, so I would like to continue with the accommodations..... We reserved the accommodations well in advance of the wedding and found the the 'wedding rates' were a bit steep (wedding rates very high) and the stay could not be less than 3 nights, no problem, we were able to see family members from all over the country early. My adult children were attending from other areas of the country, as well, but they did not plan to be there for more than one or two nights, so what was their option (very high priced other rooms, if that was even an option)? Stay with their parents was the solution, so we had 4 adults in one of the village accommodations. We made it work, but it was difficult. Why would you not offer rooms for less than 3 nights for a wedding? This was not a vacation for all of us and three night stay is more than most of needed to be there for a wedding we wanted to attend. We checked in and were very surprised that the facilities extended for miles. Our accommodations were NOT close to any of the festivities, nor were we close to the beach or pools (we were in Britterige Villages). There was a pool close to where we stayed, but we were informed this pool was for members ONLY. A place to eat near us was for members only, as well (that was not clearly stated). While we were led to believe that there is a 'shuttle' to get us around, the shuttle experience was not what we expected. There were no regular shuttles scheduled, you needed to call for a shuttle when needed. Shuttles were not always available. I heard some couples were very late to scheduled wedding events due to lack of shuttle drivers. On the day of the wedding, our driver told us that they were not prepared to get everyone to where they needed to be . Many of our family needed to drive to the events (thankfully some had cars). As for the accommodations, someone in another review suggested that the walls were paper thin and I certainly can confirm that. The family in the next room seemed to include a baby and a toddler that we heard loud and clear each morning (crying and screaming). My time away is precious and I certainly could not sleep with this noise. As an older adult, I also found that the accommodations were not conducive to older people. Stairs to get into the unit (from the parking lot) and out of the units did not work form me (lots of stairs that are not included in your material). Maybe we missed handicapped option in the villages when we booked, yet we are not handicapped, it was still a lot.....for an older adult. Last but not least, I would like to say that any employee we encountered on the property were lovely, respectful and accommodating. In addition, a place to get coffee on site (close to my room) would be so appreciated, since after two cups of coffee in my room, the kuerig stopped working! Again, this was about the wedding we attended, which was wonderful, but the accommodations could have been better ( and cheaper) and the proximity to all amenities should be spelled out. Nothing was close to the villages. One really needs a car to get to a pool or to the beach, shuttles are not reliable, or so it seems. Since it was not a particularly good pool or beach weekend, I may be more silent about this, but I did need a car to get to the beach( just to see it), and would most likely have needed a car to get to the closest pool (not for members only)

This was possibly the worst hotel stay experience I've had in all my 35 years of life. We checked…read morein to "Arbor Village" I believe was the name and had to take a shuttle it was so far away from main hotel grounds. Upon arrival of the "hotel room" - I use this loosely as it was essentially section 8 housing. We were greeted with a dirty apartment, a large wad of black tangled hair on the bathroom wall, a large wad of seemingly dog / animal hair in the foyer, a loud door in the foyer that slammed loudly and shook the apartment unit upon opening, and a musty smell that I can only assume was mold. Of course, I immediately requested to switch rooms to the main hotel grounds. We checked into an actual hotel room that was clean and normal. The breakfast, beach bar and ocean terrace were all fine experiences. The beach is the reason we return to this hotel property and did not disappoint ... until my husband was assaulted by another hotel guest's child, left unattended, on the beach. We were sitting on the beach when a child threw a large rock the size of my palm right at my unassuming husband's face. The child's parents did nothing. I immediately jumped up to attend to my husband and walk him back to our hotel room to ice his face. After he was situated, I explained the scenario to the concierge and a manager who was walking by. They took down my number and told me they'd reach out after corresponding with the hotel beach bar manager. I never heard back from anyone. Upon check out the next day, I followed up only to be left waiting in the lobby for 30+ minutes and then accosted by the hotel room booking manager. He was dismissive, haughty, rude, condescending, inappropriate, unprofessional and misogynistic. He said, "You should've contacted the police" "I don't know what you want me to do" "What do you want to get from this" when I simply asked him what hotel protocol or recourse would be as this was a hotel guest assaulting another hotel guest on hotel property. My husband's glasses were broken and he was bleeding. They did nothing to correct the situation, apologize or help. I would never stay here again and I am so disappointed as I was excited to show my husband the hotel that my late father, mother and I would return to each summer in my childhood.

A solid 3.5 stars…read more The good: -Beautiful views of the water -The lounge area by the pool was so relaxing and comfortable! Sincerely the best of any resort we've stayed at -Genuinely friendly staff -The cleaning crew was phenomenal and didn't miss a spot The not-so-good: -Paper thin walls. We were woken up multiple nights because the upstairs guests were walking around. Yes, plain footsteps - not even stomping - were very audible. For close to 1k a night, this shouldnt have happened. My cheap grad school duplex apartment didn't even have walls this thin! -Friction prevented us from giving the resort more money. There's room service but no menu in the room and it wasn't easily found online either. And we were so ready to drop a good amount of money on poolside drinks and food but nobody waited on us both times we were at the pool. (They did happen to wait on the social media star who was present, which was very obvious, and we made eye contact with another family who shrugged because they hadn't been waited on either.) And finally the coffee shop closed at noon. We would have happily patronized the shop for a treat and a coffee and were disappointed to find it closed so early. -Our perception was that there was nothing going on at the Wequassett. We stayed in June (and received the May newsletter; perhaps that would've given us more info if we had the correct one?) We had expected the poolside bar to be open. Maybe some live music. Smores for the kids by the fire (we would've purchased this.) So many opportunities for improvement! We stayed at the cliff house in Maine last year and there was a number displayed around the resort that you could text and they'd send a message with info about was going on at the hotel that week! Such a memorable touch - Wequasset could consider something like this. All in all, not awful, but not blow-your-socks-off fantastic, either. Just plain average in the realm of resorts.

Wequassett has been for many years among the best properties I go to in the US (or internationally…read morefor that matter). Every single time we visited, the service has been impeccable and I find it hard to think about any other resort that can get even close to Wequassett. The grounds are perfectly kept and the rooms have been recently renovated. And although, there's a trend even with classic high-end resorts (St. Regis, J.W., Ritz-Carlton) to make their renovations a little too modern for my taste, Wequassett successfully kept their old school charm. We always stay at their Signature Water View King rooms (and book well in advance as there's only a few of these) so I can't speak of other room types. The amenities are flawless and even though the main pool gets VERY crowded during summer weekends, the pool attendant always found 2 chairs for us. My only recommendation for this property is to have a backup plan for the main pool. Perhaps installing a deck and adding some more chairs there to accommodate more guests that prefer the beach vs. the pool.
