Still believe that this is probably the best public course on the Cape. Restaurant changed hands last year. Food is not good. Really unfortunate. Play your round, then head to one of the other places in town for a drink and some grub. read more

Well I tried booking my outing ( 8 old guys golfing down the Cape) at Cranberry Valley this year. I have not had good experience with this course but my friends said it was beautiful. Well , it may be beautiful but the management has their heads so far up their anatomy it's pathetic. They think they're Pebble Beach. The only course I've encountered that wanted to be prepaid at booking. $1058 for two foursomes in September in advance! Give me a break. Go to the Captains. Nicer course, normal people. read more

A group of friends met for breakfast in a safe outside dining area. The staff was pleasant and helpful, allowing us an opportunity for conversation and a little birthday celebration for several of our group. It was nice to be in an atmosphere with staff who seemed to be happy to be there and knew their menu. The food was excellent as well as the view of an early Autumn landscape. read more

Not sure what course Steve M. from Topsfield played but any course you book through GolfNow is going to ask for prepaid upfront. $1058 up front works out to $132.25 per man. Daily rates are $79 before 1:00PM and the cart fees are $24.00 which is typically of every course on Cape Cod. And, when it comes to the people, obviously you have not played Captains in a while. The people there are the most stuck up Cape Codders I've ever seen and the staff at Cranberry Valley are the nicest. And, as far as the courses, CV gets more play than both of the Captains courses annually so there must be something going on correctly at CV. So, unless you have something decent to say, leave your comments offline where nobody can read them. read more

Exceptional course! Everyone friendly, good pace and the course conditions wonderful. Very playable course and challenging. Played twice and will go back again when I visit the cape next year. Undulating fairways, some tough bunkers that protect the greens well. Par 3's fairly uncomplicated,with no brush or water hazards. Some blinds holes, which make for some fun. Very nice grass driving range. Restaurant very good too. read more

Cranberry Valley is a golf mecca. Pass a couple par fives east of an actually cranberry bog through a forest, and a panoramic vista awaits. And if heaven for the true golfer requires only a well-manicured, undulating course flanked by practice areas and a clubhouse complete with a broad deck touting generous fare and a view, then the "pearly gates" have opened at Cranberry Valley. On a recent September visit, our first, the vibe was a cross between Augusta, Nantucket and New Bedford - devout aficionados of the game blending with weekend wannabes sneaking off for a slice of links' utopia and a chance to wager on a sport one's actually playing. After a brisk warmup on and about a green (short game, y'know), we sauntered over to the honey clubhouse and Jake's. And we were "shocked, shocked" (not really) that despite the modest hour (before noon), a handful of happy golfers (that's not a misprint) were living large with libations to match. Strolling to the deck, affable servers Cici and Lisa delivered brunch food and good old-fashioned hospitality enough to lighten any round or shaved wallet. So when you grow weary and need a much deserved respite, get there to the land of milk, honey and lush greens, Cranberry Valley. read more

Absolutely dying of laughter from the review of Steve M.!! OBVIOUSLY, he never investigated the actual cost of 8 golfers, prime time (before 1:00) at CV, which is only $824 "with a cart" and nowhere near the prices he's quoting. AND I know he's never golfed at Captains because dealing with the Pro Shop and, especially the Ranger, is aggravating to say the least; treating customers like they are bothering them AND it's been that way for years! (That's the main reason I do not golf there anymore.) Staff at CV is amazing and always willing to go the extra step. The course is in amazing shape for the amount of play it gets and the Superintendent makes sure it stays that way; rain or no rain! Not sure who Steve M. is but he obviously never golfs on Cape Cod in the summer, because he seems to want to golf for peanuts, and didn't try very hard to get a tee time at CV. How about picking up a phone?? CV starts taking advanced reservations in January... A little over the top, aren't you?? (and I'm sure you never played Pebble Beach either) :0 read more

We had a good experience at this course. The rates are reasonable for this area. The staff was friendly. The greens were real nice. Not too fast or slow. Pace of play was perfect. Since I shot an 81, I would look forward to playing here again :) normally a 19-20 handicap. read more

I have played half dozen times here over 10 years and my last 2 experiences have been terrible. The last 2 rounds of golf both during the week have taken 5.5 plus hours to play. The latest September 27 on a Wednesday took almost 6 hours to finish. The clubhouse/ management knew they had a Senior Sweeps ( Senior Membership) playing a tournament but took our payment and disclosed after that the course was busy, not mentioning the tournament. They paired us up with a member and guest fine, except my guest and I shoot low 80 and high 70 rounds of golf. The one golfer who was struggling shot 115 plus was not the problem because we waiting at every hole 10-15 minutes. Ask before u give a payment and beware of the lack of pace of play. The rangers did nothing to force the members to move. Had a much better experience at the Captains course in Brewster. read more

Yep, Steve and Dick got it right... nice course, but customer service is not part of the deal. Rude people in the clubhouse. The starters have always treated us well. Don't recall any problems with rangers. We showed up once to play and didn't find out until we got on to the course that the greens had been aerated and were practically impossible to putt on. NO refunds or rebates were forthcoming. Another time we were there early on a rainy day. Had a 1:30 tee time. Asked if we could start early as nobody was going out. Were told we'd have to pay extra because we'd be hitting off before 1. We told them we'd wait, checked in with starter, who laughed and said go ahead and hit. But I do like the course. We're booked for CV in a few days. Will be on the lookout for grumpy rangers. Sorry to hear the ranger ruined what should have been a great day of golf. read more

Nice course but the rangers are out of their minds. I played Monday and was paired up with a man and his son. We were playing with normal pace and i was sitting on the second green in 2 (par five) putting for eagle and the freaking ranger tells us to hurry up since there is space between us and the next group. It's hole #2 for cripes sake.. i had some words with him and he was out of control with the attitude and threatened to kick us off the course. we then played the 3rd hole fine and he came down the next hole and made me pick up in the bunker and move to the next tee. i paid $84 for this kind of crap. for the next few holes i was ready to see the cops come down the fairway. not a way to enjoy a morning and it screwed up the whole group's golf big time. the ranger then thanked us for speeding up on about the 7th hole and seemed to think that i understood the problem. i told him i was never told to speed up while putting on the second hole and that he messed up the entire 4some. I spoke to the pro afterwards and he just yessed us up and didn't do anything for us. i like the course but there are a ton of other nice places to play on the cape and i am not going to play there again or recommend it to my friends. that is the only real recourse i have (and to post on all websites that they suck). read more

Cranberry Valley is a great public course,rated best on Cape Cod. Not sure what the other reviewer's experience was, but usually the complaint about rangers is that they are not aggressive enough. Slow play is the bane of all golf courses. Maybe he was right, but maybe....? read more

A fine layout in very good condition. beautiful fall day but the pace of play was beyond horrendous. i was playing there because I walked off three weeks earlier because it took 1:15 to play three holes and when I got to fourth tee we were third group on tee. went in and complained and they gave me a pass to return....as it turns out they had failed to inform us of the fact that there was a mens senior tournament right in front of us.... after we had already paid top dollar. returned today and took 5.5 hours to play. just awful. ranger tried twice on front nine to warn the slow group two groups in front of us and did nothing to move them along. never saw ranger on back nine. we were third group on every tee for 18 holes. a total disgrace. the course is beautiful, well conditioned and fun. I went into pro shop after round to politely inform them of the issue and they acknowledged they were aware of it all day and did nothing about it. There are much better options in the area.. both Captains courses in Brewster are less money , as good if not better, and walkable in 3.5 hours. Dennis courses are fine, less money with much better pace of play. Cranberry knows it has a perpetual problem and does nothing to fix it. read more

Eight of us play each year at the Cape in August for three days/three courses for the last ten years. We reserved a tee time for 9/19 for eight by credit card in advance. Due to rain the night before, we checked prior to our time and we were told that carts were not available that day and attempted to cancel the time as one of our players has a prosthesis (leg) and was unable to walk. We were told in an abrupt fashion that our only option was to receive a voucher for the round, with no exceptions. The "gentleman" then cut the conversation short and again relayed this was our only option, regardless of our disabled participant. I live outside Manchester NH, and six others live in Connecticut. Making a return trip to the Cape to play a round is simply not cost effective. Our disabled friend offered not to play, but we play a three day tournament format and regardless, none of us would agree to him not playing. We will not return to the course in future years as we have the past ten. Two of our players have homes in the area and I'm sure will not now frequent the course. I believe the course is owned and operated by the town of Harwich, and I'm surprised and angry at our experience. Common sense should have rendered a different outcome in my opinion. read more

I agree with Steve B. I played the course with my wife and another couple in June mid week. We teed off on #1 and I happened to notice that the foursome ahead of us were walking off #2 tee as we were going off#1 tee as directed by the starter. By the 4th hole the ranger quite rudely told us we were holding people up and that we needed to keep up with the folks ahead of us. so we did speed up, to the point the ladies picked up on a hole as they did want the ranger to come back. it was then that I noted the foursome behind us were just walking up to the tee as we were walking of the green, at about the 8th the ranger hassled us again and there was no one behind us waiting. At the turn while we were waiting for the ladies to return from the facility the ranger once again started to hassle my friend and me. I told the ranger we were not holding anyone up and ask what he would have us do. He told us to skip a hole.I advised him that i paid for eighteen and was going to play eighteen. I suugested that if we were a problem they should refund our money and we would leave. He said go talk to mangement. so we did , the person on the desk noted we had played the nine in 2hrs 22 minutes which according to mr ranger was slow by 7 minutes. the desk person refered us to the director of golf who did refund our money but it was done in a rude manner which showed there was no concern for customer service. As Steve B said there are to many really nice course on the Cape to put up with this treatment. I won't go back, nor will I recommend the coures to anyone read more
