The Downtown Location is owned by the franchisees that own Ferndale and Farmington. Two women who have found a niche. I painted during the Grand Opening event this week. The set up is BYOB wine and they provide the paint and canvas. You would be surprised how great you will back with a little bit of wine. The golden rule is never drink the paint water and no paint brushes in the wine. If you've ever painted there then you will get the joke. The area is spacious and they have a TV monitor for you to follow along in case you need to see close up. At least 40 people can fit into a class. The class offerings are changed monthly and a sneak peek is given via Facebook on the 15th of the month. The instructors walk you through creating your on painting that is preselected. The cool thing is that many are artists themselves, so you are learning from a real painter. Parking is on the street, which is metered parking. Classes are $35-$45 for public and private classes. You can book a private party with your friends/family. I enjoy painting and you also get points when registering online.

I purchased a Groupon for 2 people to do the cell phone walking tour back on May 3rd…read more There were no dates available to register for the class on the website so that should have been a red flag, however, the rating on Groupon was 4+ stars. I had to email, send messages on the website and call many times before I heard back from someone. When I got a hold of someone, they told me that they only do the class once a month. My friend and I scheduled the class 3 weeks in advance. I got a text message confirming that we could make it on the day of the tour. I confirmed. We showed up at the DIA as instructed at noon and when we arrived, I got a text that the "teacher" was running 30 minutes late. My friend and I waited over an hour and no one showed up. Not the instructor or any other people to take the walking tour. I find it hard to believe that they are promoting this tour on Groupon and only one person a month is trying to schedule the tour. I called the person 2x and she didn't answer and then someone showed up over an hour later as it was going to rain. This is unacceptable. The person that showed up was not wearing any shirt or badge to indicate any affiliation with Photo Sensei. Additionally, when we questioned where the tour would go, she said "she wasn't sure" and she would have to check her phone. She also mentioned driving somewhere, which is a bit fishy as we were prepared to go on a "walking tour" not alone in some strangers car. I also noticed that any positive reviews for this company were from many years ago. Be aware of this.

I saw classes at other studios that only lasted an hour and I'm so glad I went with Sugar Hill Clay. It was $180 for up to a 4-person private class and worth every penny. We were able to book a Saturday class with Chen (who was so talented, knowledgeable and set such a calming presence) and would do it again! After you make your items, Chen will glaze them with your color preference and fire them. Once they're ready, they let you know when you can pick up the pieces! 1000% would recommend- hidden gem!

The upstairs gallery was closed when we were there, so we just browsed the shop, which is full of all sorts of beautiful ceramic items like tiles, vases, art, and more. I liked seeing all the different pieces but nothing really shouted out to me. The animal tiles were probably my favorite. I also liked the house number tiles. They also had other non-ceramic items for sale, like earrings, puzzles, calendars, cards, etc. It is a nice place to find gifts! They also do classes and workshops, which sound fun! This isn't a spot that I need to visit every time I'm in the area, but it was fun to finally check out.

In addition to an active workshop, the building houses a gift shop with lots of wonderful ceramic pieces and a small museum, which details the history of Pewabic Pottery. It's a unique piece of Detroit history and a great place to buy gifts for yourself and others. It's well worth a visit to this hidden gem.

It's a venue for small to medium sized special events. It's across the street from the art museum so it's easy to amble over and check out. When I stopped by they were renovating, it's over 110 years old so this sort of thing must happen every now and then. Well worth the voluntary donation even though it was mostly closed off. Depending on your vision, you might want to bring binoculars to look at the higher parts of the exterior architecture and be careful if you are backpedaling to get a better view. Thank you to the motorist who didn't run me over by the way, when I backed into the street, Mr. Magoo style.

My friend and I decided to go with 24 x 24 selection which gives you a 3hr class time and you have a little extra additional time if you go over. You get to select your own image - if its TOO DETAILED then he'll let you know. Currently he request the image 24hrs before the class - you'll notify you through email and text. Please note - you won't be able to take piece home until after two days but he'll reach out when its ready because he needs to put the finishing touching/sealing the rug with glue. There are a variety of colors available - you even have the option of playing your own music but we declined and asked him to put on some music which we vibe too. As of right now - the max amount of people are 6 but i think special requests for highly numbers in the future - if you don't know then just reach out. I'm already trying to see how i can get my job to approve a corporate class which he informed me that there's an option for a pop-up session. At the end of the day - DO THE THINGS; TRY SOMETHING NEW. The building itself is beautiful and just a short stumble from the Sheds in Eastern Market. My favorite night of all my experiences at RBHOA was the Secret Walls live mural competition. It was an amazing night where (4) teams of 3-4 artists painted murals to be judged at the conclusion of the night by the crowd. Amazing to see the artists at work. Being that the building and events are sponsored by Red Bull there is always all you can drink Vodka Redbulls (plus a few other selections, miller light, gin & tonic, etc.) Great experience every visit. This is definitely a spot I like to introduce slowly to friends from outside of the city.

Red Bull HoA selects resident artists that rotate…read morethrough the studio, where they focus on producing what they love and then displaying it to the public on Saturdays during the Eastern Market. The building is basically a gentrified warehouse and the first floor is where the residents work. If you go on a Saturday, you can hang out with the resident artists and talk with them as they paint, etc. After that, head downstairs to the gallery. There, completed works are displayed next to a tiny number on a thumb tack that you can use to look up each work's price if you are interested. You can browse the whole gallery in about ten minutes, but the art in invariably outstanding and I highly recommend it. It draws from a lot of College of Creative Studies talent in Detroit, and a lot of the art has contemporary and urban undertones. I've heard that they also throw parties about once a month. I can't go to the one in July, but will update this review as soon as I'm able to attend! Stop by the Red Bull House of Art whenever you are in the Eastern Market!
