Excellent experience - we were the first guests for Donny, the new innkeeper. Our room was the one where General Sheridan stayed during the Civil War, but now with a full bathroom and running water! It was quiet and peaceful at night too. The breakfasts were great, tasty and well presented in a dining room full of history. Charles Town has many good restaurants, most within easy walking distance of the Inn, and Harper's Ferry was only an 11 minute drive away. Centrally located, full of history and a wonderful host! For how expensive The Carriage Inn is now, the experience was shockingly disorganized. We couldn't book online, no one answered the phone, and the whole operation felt way too casual for the price they're charging. The worst part: my husband's parents were told they could stay another night, only to be asked to leave later because someone else booked online. That's not a small mistake -- that's basic mismanagement. This place used to have real standards. Very disappointed in the new ownership. read more

We LOVED our stay at the carriage inn. There was so much to love and highlight for this review. The check in process was simple, the room was spacious, the shower had excellent water pressure and heat, the bed/linens were great. We thought the towels were a little on the lower side of quality if we had to call something out. The appreciated the comprehensive guide for the town and history of the house which was in a binder in our room. There were complementary beverages outside of our room in a fridge. As well as complimentary baked goods in the dining room throughout the day. The breakfast both days was AMAZING. We really loved the harvest apple parfait on the second day and the quiche/breakfast pie reminded me of something my mom makes. I will recommend this stay to anyone visiting the area, especially Harper's ferry which is like 15 mins away from this bed and breakfast. Also we appreciated the reserved parking for guests, we had no issues with parking. read more

We stayed here in May 2023 (noting that as the ownership changed pretty recently). Everything about our stay was excellent. The hosts (who are also the owners) were very welcoming. The House itself is beautiful and has interesting civil war history. Our room (the Sunrise Room) had everything we needed as did the Inn overall. Breakfast was delicious, and the hosts went out of their way to accommodate dietary restrictions. The Inn is a short walk from downtown Charles Town. We didn't find much to do in Charles Town (just a few restaurants), but it was nice to walk to dinner. But the Inn is a very short drive from downtown Harpers Ferry (12-15 min or so depending on traffic), which was perfect for our visit. read more

If your looking for a relaxing getaway this place is it, don't look any further. It has all the charm, history and the most delicious food anyone would need. If your a foodie this place is definitely worth staying. Yvonne and Jonathan are amazing hostess. Yvonne is quite the baker and everyday at 4 we were waiting for her delicious goodies she would put out for the guests. Jonathan shares the history of the house which is quite interesting and knocks on our door with fresh coffee every morning. There are several restaurants in walking distance with delicious food and drinks. We will be back for sure! read more

Breakfast is served at the table where Grant and Sheridan strategized during the civil war. Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson were among many Southern notables that can be connected to the house. Marie and Donn are consummate hosts. They are there for you as resources, but know how to be unobtrusive, if that is what you require. The rooms are beautifully appointed. Thick walls keep it very quiet at night. Our mattress was comfortable. The shower spray was firm, with an adjustable message setting. Breakfasts are attractively presented, and tasty. Great B &B. We stayed here on Valentine's Day. The hosts are extremely friendly and provided a tour of the inn along with the history associated with it. We stayed in the Copper Beach Suite, what a great room. We selected this room because it's on the first floor. The room has a huge jacuzzi tub which was fantastic. The room also has an enclosed patio which would be great in warmer weather. The breakfast was great, we will definitely return. read more

Highly recommended B&B. We have stayed with Donn and Marie in their historic home three times over the past 6 years or so. It's always been a wonderful experience. The rooms are formal and pretty without being stuffy. This time we stayed in the Copper Beech suite to celebrate Dave's milestone birthday and enjoyed the king-size bed, giant jacuzzi, and breakfast on the private screen porch. Donn is an amazing cook and he whipped up some delicious gluten free bundt pecan spice cakes for us. read more

This is my favorite Bed and Breakfast so far. Marie and Donn are friendly, but give you the space you need, and are knowledgeable of history. Marie brought us breakfast in bed and it was delicious! We stayed in the suite with hot tub and patio. The suite had everything you might need from toiletries to the fridge stocked with soft drinks. I definitely recommend staying at this Inn. read more

My husband and I stayed here for the weekend for our anniversary and babymoon. The house is beautiful and historical. My favorite part was the front porch, which was large with a swing. We stayed in the cedar beech room. The room was on the first floor and was said to include a private screened porch, jacuzzi tub, and fireplace. The jacuzzi looked nice, but it wasn't used since I'm pregnant. We ate breakfast on the porch both mornings, which was nice and intimate. The fireplace was not actually a fireplace, but rather a space heater with a fake fire. That was disappointing. The room itself was cozy, but I found the bed too firm for my taste. The hosts were friendly, but less so than other B&Bs that we have stayed at. If you like not being bothered, this is a good place to go. If you enjoy lots of chitchat with the owners and things, maybe try another place. At least that was our experience. The food was decent, but we weren't terribly impressed. As food lovers who love to cook, we have high expectations. For most people, I'm sure the food is excellent, to us it was fine. I would assume that they don't get many vegetarians staying, based upon the food choices, granted I added an extra challenge, due to the fact that I'm not eating eggs unless they are a part of a dish such as French toast. The first day my husband had their sausage pie, which was and egg, sausage,and hash brown casserole. I had blueberry pancakes served with string cheese. We also we served fig muffins and apples coated with vanilla yogurt and topped with a small amount of granola. Lastly, there was coffee, tea, and juice. The second day we had a fresh fruit cup and orange-stuffed French toast. My husband's was served with scrambled eggs and mine was served with cheese. Again, we had coffee and tea. My husband was not fond of the coffee, granted he is a coffee snob. Both days there were afternoon snacks with tea. The first day there was pecan pie bars and the second day chocolate chip cookies. This was the tastiest stuff! Next in line was the French toast. The B&B is great for some history, it just was lacking in some areas for us. read more

We came for valentine's day. I liked hearing the history of the building. The room was nice (we stayed in one with a fireplace and hot tub). The tub was great, but the fireplace was a fake electric one, which is fine but didn't through off much heat and wasn't worth paying extra for. The service was okay -- food was very nice, but it was late to arrive and we had to ask for it. We would probably try another place before coming back, but did enjoy it! read more

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend getaway for two. This was the first B&B we have ever stayed in and this was truly a wonderful experience! The owners were very friendly but professional and made us feel right at home. The house was beautiful and full of history. Our room was very elegantly decorated and clean - but still very homey and comfortable. The hot tub was a nice touch. We even had a small porch where we were able to have a delicious breakfast that consisted of a wonderful quiche, fresh fruit and yogurt in a wine glass, juice, coffee and the works. The food was great. This place is also located near several attractions, including the Charles Town Races and Harper's Ferry. BF and I just got back from The Carriage Inn, and we're planning our return trip. This was our first time @ a B&B, and just like Marie, one of the innkeepers said, we'll be addicted to them from now on. I think she's right. Our first interaction with Marie was by phone when we called Sat afternoon to let her and Donn know we were going to be later than expected, and it was like we were already old friends. From the moment we walked into the inn, we felt welcomed and that we had entered a very special place. Marie showed us around, shared the wonderful history of the inn and then welcomed us to some delicious apple crisp Donn had made. Although the six rooms were all occupied, we felt we had privacy and we were amazed at how quiet it was. We stayed in the Mary Rutherford room, which was beautiful, but I don't doubt that all the other rooms were as well. The 2nd floor landing had a fridge stocked with soft drinks, glasses (including wine glasses), and water. This morning's breakfast (yogurt, sausage quiche, and pumpkin muffin) was so yummy and provided us a terrific way to begin our return visit to Harpers Ferry after we enjoyed more coffee and the view from the porch swing for a little bit. We can't wait to stay in one of the jacuzzi suites on our next visit to the inn and especially, to Donn and Marie. read more
