I enjoyed my first event at the Cary Theater commemorating Juneteenth with Rhythm & Rhyme tonight. It felt like the Apollo stage in Harlem tonight. I invited a good friend who lives locally and enjoys the town's events, tonight I discovered why. Tickets were affordable at $7 with tax. Several poets and music artists came out to showcase their talents and it was well enjoyed. The popular triangle R&B band NIITO performed live and really tore the house down with their cover songs. This event was well organized and seating was plentiful. We grabbed balcony seats and really enjoyed having our own space away from the crowd. While parking is not plentiful, there are still a few lots and street parking to take advantage of. Come early, leave happy. I look forward to more events and possibly seeing a film here in the future. read more

I want to point out we didn't watch a movie but when we visited the coffee shop was open to the theater lobby so I wanted to check it out. There were several very sweet older ladies (likely volunteers) that I talked to about the theater and its history. The theater itself was the original in Cary and had been renovated a couple of times over the years. They have one screen that showed mostly art type films and have some live performances. I would go here if I was living here since it was a type of place that appeals to me. If you live there and haven't been I would recommend, if visiting and staying check it out. read more

I've purchased tickets here for events I've attended at the Cary Arts Center. I've experienced good customer service here and pleasant staff upon approaching the box office. I would suggest the staff be more familiar with the events paying structure before misquoting paid events. read more

Nice historical theater with an amazing staff. Purchase your bagged popcorn and drink from the coffee shop in the lobby and you are all set. Didn't miss any of the frills of the big box theaters and didn't miss the big ticket prices. Paid less than 5.00 for ticket plus fee. Nice to support a theater in the community. read more

I think I'll Cary on reviewing stuff for the time being. This is an absolutely gorgeous recently renovated old theater in the heart of Cary, which is probably the most diverse and interesting suburb of Raleigh. I absolutely love the way it looks both inside and outside. It reminds me of the North Park Theater in Buffalo and the Byrd Theater in Richmond. Once there was a theater like all theaters: Much like Goldilocks' third chair -- it was not too big and not too small. That's the Cary Downtown Theater now. This spot seats about 150 between the front, the main, and the quasi-box seating. The pitch of the seats in the main section allows for anyone of average height to see the screen and not the back of someone's head. There's no rocker back or reclining seating, and no cup holder and that brings the usual dexterity challenge of holding onto a beverage. The seats are comfortable enough but not luxurious. The ticket prices won't break the bank so matinee pricing isn't a thing because it doesn't need to be. There are reduced prices for shows on Tuesday, but I think that's the senior discount. (!) The theater has only one screen and perhaps a showing or two most days. Some days there isn't one at all -- at least as I've noticed. It's really a multi-purpose facility that focuses on digital arts with the movies as only one facet. As movie theaters gradually turn into megaplexes with dozens of screens and showings and home-like seating and concession stand goodies, the Cary Theater went the other direction and revived the old style. Here, while the balcony is now the computer projection area, the concession stand is next door at the coffee shop (patrons are free to bring their snacks into the theater), and the tickets are printed by the computer on heavy paper stock and then scanned at the door, the small town, old school feel is alive and well. Here, the movies are perhaps underrated, with some current Oscar nominated movies but under the radar with little of the big-budget marketing. It's a showcase for indy films, some occasional comedy and classics. Like all theaters, it still need to pay the bills, so there's a trailer or two of upcoming movies and so far, the only commercial has been a donation appeal for the local Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve. One downside to seeing movies here is parking. There isn't any. That's true with most places in downtown Cary. The theater recommends parking behind the church after hours, or in the downtown lot. It only sounds bad. The walk isn't awful. The Cary Theater is a fun, old-style way to see movies. It's local. It's no frills. It works. read more

We went to the Cary Theater on a Saturday night to watch RBG. It was a packed house. After just moving here from Miami, I really loved and appreciated the old small town feel of the theater. Apparently, it was recently renovated. The staff was nice and helpful. My only complaint is that the theater was a little warm. Finding parking was also a bit of a challenge. After driving around for almost 20 minutes we finally found somewhere to park. read more

We came here on a Thursday night for a movie screening. Staff was friendly, helpful and accommodating. Place was clean and theatre seats were comfy and close to each other. There is an attached deli (snack food) and clean restrooms with tables and chairs. Nice locator in downtown Cary. Parking can be tricky if you don't know the area. Several restaurants and pubs in walking distance. read more

Great to have a Downtown Theater in Cary finally. It has been refurnished and has a variety of shows at very reasonable prices. The website is difficult to find and does not have much information about shows or the Theater. Town of Cary needs to improve their marketing on the web by getting a easy to remember URL for the Cary Theater and provide a strong presence with facebook, twitter, and other accounts that market their many great facilities in Cary, Parking could be better as well with food options and activities to do around the location within walking distance. read more

Please show up to work, employees of "The Cary". My friends went for Bengt Washburn tickets @ 5:30pm Friday August 16th. A half dozen patrons,the opening comedian and a beverage vendor were mystified that the box office was "closed" (?) The facility number rang inside unanswered. Returned at 5:50pm and The Cary was still unattended. More patrons came and went, frustrated. As a Cary resident, I was angry my tax dollars were paying a for such a lackluster attitude so I went to the Herbert Walker building to let the Town of Cary know their theater was abandoned. By the time someone arrived at 6:10pm ("Jocelyn") 15+ people reconsidered and left just like us because if this is how they run things, what other unpleasant surprises await? Let's hope "The Cary" pulls it's act together and hasn't squandered our SIX MILLION DOLLAR INVESTMENT! read more

Not only does this theater host a bar and coffee shop (BREW), but it's just a good little theater. They show contemporary, retro, and weird movies. I saw a local film as part of filmSPARK one year for SPARKcon, and recently I watched the Avett Brothers documentary there. Great sound, comfortable seating, and they don't call themselves a theatre. read more

Brew Coffee is located inside adjacent to the theater and refreshments may be brought into the theater. I love the Cary! Its small-town, old-school intimacy with its quirky slate of films and live entertainment make it the best entertainment value in Cary. If you want a multiplex corporate theater with the drivel coming out of the American entertainment industrial complex, go down the road to Crossroads. read more

My friend and I went for a movie some months ago. It's very small, neat and clean. The seats are tiny. The website is a joke. There are no business hours posted at the door. The parking is almost non-existent. This is a government owned business; I suppose that explains a lot. read more

Our first trip to The Cary was good and not so good. First the good: Love the small theatre, not a bad view from anywhere. Seats were comfortable but I don't know how a larger person would fit, they were quite small. Very clean and shiney and modern inside, but I don't know why, I expected something a little nostalgic from the look of the outside facade. They show good films - saw The Wolfpack - and would love to see a live show here The concession prices are great! I can't recommend the Chardonnay, but for $5.00 it was okay. Now the not so good: The people that work there. They were like zombies, I swear. They need training in customer service. I know it's just a movie theatre, but even the employees at Regal Crossroads are better trained in customer service. I greeted the woman at the desk with a smile but got a blank stare in return. I asked her where do we show our tickets and she mumbled something so I figured someone will ask for them at some point. I got the impression she was thinking " I can't deal with all of these questions" because she got up and walked away. When the doors opened we walked in, there was no one standing by the door so we figured the ticket taker was inside. He had to run after us like we were thieves. May I suggest when you open the doors to the theatre you stand by the door so that doesn't happen to anyone who hasn't been there before. The concession people were exactly the same. Everyone there seemed like they were unhappy about something. We'll go back again, but we'll just lower our expectations when interacting with the employees. read more

Pleasantly surprised! Great "out-of-the-box-office" film selections, really comfortable seating, prime sound, cozy and not too crowded.
