We always love supporting our local community, especially when it benefits the hospital but this experience was awful. The volunteers were rude and completely unhelpful. You would think that an event supporting such a great cause would show better customer service and kindness. Sadly, we'll never go back. I love that this thrift store supports the local hospital and is run by volunteers -- it's packed with hidden treasures and worth a visit. Meg, a volunteer, was absolutely lovely and even shared a personal family story with us while we were browsing vintage items, which made the experience feel warm and welcoming. Unfortunately, the cashier, Heather, was extremely rude, telling customers to "move it along." If my only interaction had been with Heather, I wouldn't return. I truly hope she's kinder in the future, because this store -- and the good cause it supports -- deserves staff who reflect its mission of community care. read more

terrible service. I'm an avid thrifter and completely polite to service workers as I am one. I bought a jacket that wasn't gore Tex or feather downing just nylon and I got priced as if it was a gore tex jacket. I asked "are you sure?" because I asked one of the workers and they said it qualified as "other" so I got confirmation prior to the register but she yells out "YES I AM SURE" with her arms crossed. Prices depend on who is working not the item itself. White plus sized lady with bangs and glasses ruined "national thrift day". I suggest you go to a thrift where price is as marked and they don't think and then name a price. Locals should keep in mind when her off days are as well. read more

The Cast-Off Thrift is a big thrift store. My only issue, is they aren't open more? They close at 3pm and are closed on other days like Wed., Fri., and Sun. Fair sized parking lot. I didn't see any public bathrooms, but again I didn't ask. The changing rooms are someone like a peepshow, they use curtains for the doors. Bring a buddy with you to guard the room while you strip down. There is a lot and I mean a lot of snow gear. It's designated to 1/4 of the store. I think that's pretty cool. Not sure why the employees are so grumpy at this place. They do have a good, wide selection of stuff. But the poor attitudes and rude employees pretty much ruin it. We found the prices to be high for a thrift shop, even for Mammoth. All of the folks giving one star reviews for this thrift store.... go back to LA. The cast-off staff has the sweetest staff ever. Just because they ask folks to wear masks and sanitize because of the reality that older folks are more likely to experience averse health effects from covid, does not warrant a one star review and you calling them rude. I have been coming here for 8 years and have never once had a bad interaction with the staff. In fact, this is one of the nicest and consistent thrift stores I have been to in the entire country. If you're a person that is sensitive to confrontation, probably because you were doing something entitled and/or rude, then you have a few options: you can opt out of visiting remote locations that do not adhere to your yuppie lifestyle and needs, stay at your air bnb and save the trip to the thrift store, or consider the implications of your attitudes in public spaces and your interactions with people who may not share your privileged perspective on life. Just visited this thrift store for the first time, and as much as I would like to go back since they have quite a selection, I'm not looking forward to returning because of the majority of the volunteers grumpy attitudes. Being a volunteer doesn't change how you treat customers. It isn't hard to treat others how you would like to be treated, with kindness and respect. I love The Cast Off!! I stop by at least once a month and always leave with some awesome stuff. I bought a space heater here for $12 that lasted all season and wasn't ridiculously expensive to run. I also bought a vcr and about 25 movies to go with it for under $20. None of the movies I got are on Netflix! Total score! I also got a mint condition 1980s ski onesie for $20 that would easily go for a couple hundred dollars on eBay. The staff are super nice. It's like going to a garage sale at your grandmother's house. This is one of the best thrift stores I've ever been to let alone one that's in Mammoth. The prices are spot on. Only downside is the funny hours they have but it allows them to keep the store filled with more great items. read more

Everyone here is super rude and seems to have issues! I have never been so disrespected in Mammoth. Don't bother coming here. Everything is all junk anyways and over priced. I tried to see if there was any dog toys for my dog while we are staying at the Village and nothing was worth buying even temporarily. These people are not animal lovers since they tried to quick out my therapy dog multiple times. My dog was very well behaved and didn't bother anyone. So I've come to a conclusion that they are just cruel to people with a service animal. Shame on them! read more

Soooo much inventory of just about anything you might need. High attention to the safety and well being of their 100% volunteer staff and customers. Very reasonable prices for sure. Volunteers are always helpful to lead you to what you're looking for. But I learned too that 100% of their money goes to local causes. The money stays in Mammoth. This store funds all kinds of causes but was created over 50 years ago to aid Mammoth Hospital to help buy cutting edge equipment and funds many scholarships for local students. Love this place. I just had a pretty bad experience here. I went in today to donate a big box of stuff and wanted to see if they had crutches as I am currently in need. I hobbled back to where they are. They had a wall of them. I found a pair that would work and came back up front to pay. They came to $6.50 or something. Noticing now that there is a sign stating that there is a minimum of $10 on cards. Well, I have 3 dollars or a card. My husband asked if they would make an exception seeing as how I really need them. They said to find something else to make it over $10. I really didn't need anything else, but I browsed for a minute. Being at the end of my budget for the month and not needing anything else horribly bad, we decided to just leave them there and going to the other thrift store in town, wishing I had now saved my donations for the other store. Went to second chance thrift store and found crutches for cheaper and had MUCH nicer service. It's time to update the way you do business. I know I don't carry cash often and most people don't. It is also illegal to have a minimum on debit cards. Credit cards are different. Not to mention you have been donated everything in the store. If you had adjusted the price to help out someone in need, I would have been happy to come back. I have never had great service at this store to begin with, but you can bet that I will be spending my money elsewhere. read more

We came here last minute because this was the only thrift store we hadn't hit on our mammoth trip. We had only 30 minutes before it closed, and as the reviews state, when they are getting ready to close, they let you know: lights off, screaming through the store, etc. but if anything it made me chuckle.
