came here for a pair of snowboarding boots for my son on our mammoth trip. they seemed okay at the time, fit appropriately. However when it came time to use them on the slopes they didn't work well for him. We had to rent another pair at the mammoth resort and brought them back the next day. The guy at the counter said he still had to charge me despite not using the boots at all (had receipts but he didn't care) he also said if they didn't work I should have brought them back, despite being in mammoth for two days and missing snowboard time with my son. We had the most awful interaction with a Wave Rave employee today. Today is the Mammoth Lakes 4th of July parade, which is supposed to be a family friendly event for our community. My husband and I were pushing our baby in a stroller on the sidewalk in front of Wave Rave prior to the start of the parade. The Wave Rave employees were setting up their tent and were temporarily blocking the sidewalk with a bench they were moving. No big deal right? We and the other pedestrians waited until they moved the bench out of the walking path. Once I had a clear path, we went around them like normal people would do. Then this male Wave Rave employee mutters "F*cking r*tards with strollers." Who says r*tard anymore? Who says this to a baby?! This emotionally stunted manchild said this loud enough for all of the children and parents around to hear. This coward clearly didn't think we would say anything back, because when my husband stopped and very loudly asked him, "What?" He just stared back at us blankly with nothing to say. So apparently he's brave enough to say horrible things to a baby and her mom, but too much of a coward to repeat what he said to a dad. If this is how Wave Rave employees act in public at a family friendly community event, I can't imagine how they act behind closed doors. Absolutely disgusting behavior. read more

I've been renting from snow shops for years and know what to expect. I was literally the only customer and the girl in the front had no idea what I should fill out and after 15 minutes of sitting there finally, the manager came over to do damage control, and he started to set me up with boots, but then it took 45 minutes. At the end, it took over an hourto just rent board and boots. Still the only customer in the store. Their policy is to return equipment by 8 PM otherwise you get charged a full next day. Of course, being the last day of the season, I messed up my knee and called to ask if I could drop off the equipment in the morning and they said sure of course our policy is anytime before 9am there is just a $10 extra charge. So I said cool and iced my night knee instead and cried (a little). The next morning showed up at 8:45an and again after waiting 20 minutes somebody helped me and still again being the only customer in the store. They told me they are charging me the full next day because I were returning the stuff after 9 AM but if I had shown up earlier, then they wouldn't charge me at all. Really inconsistent policy and frustrating. I was in too much pain to sit there and argue for 70 bucks. But come on Wave Rave. My friends and family have rented from you guys plenty and this experience was really not cool. The G2 step ins were nice and the board was pretty decent so thank you for that. read more

Sporting good place that has everything you need. If you forgot any gear and/or break and need replacing. Of course during the heart of snow season this place is like Disneyland on a summer day. Yes, very crowded with long wait time. The staff was very nice and friendly. They definitely weathered the crowds. They can repair your snow gear, you can buy new gear/clothes/anything and everything that you need to be comfortable in the snow they will have. The parking lot is small and it's right in front. I've been searching everywhere for snowboard boots. Even bought a pair of my own before and had to return them right away due to pain. No one has ever been able to help me, but 30 min with Joaqin made my experience snowboarding go from a 3/10 to 30/10. I have always had toe numbess/tingling and cramping in my calves. I figured it was partially due to not being conditioned, but after 1 run I would barely be able to feel my feet and need to loosen my boots for at least 30 min. As much as I enjoyed snowboarding, I never was able to go on more than 3 runs a days due to pain. I decided to go into wave rave to see their boot selection with no intention of really buying. But I ran into Joaqin and decided to ask him more about their boots and what my problems were. He was extremely patient, answered all my questions, and brought out as many shoes as I needed to find the perfect fit. Each problem I ran into, he knew what other boot to pull out. He is super knowledgeable with everything snowboarding. If you are in the market for new snow gear, go here! If you need any help too, ask for Joaqin! I will definitely be coming back! Wave Rave has been our go-to spot for years whenever we visit Mammoth. The staff they employ have always been helpful and extremely knowledgeable. It's clear that they're passionate about snowboarding. I've been riding my 20+ year snowboard and was always reluctant to buy a much needed replacement because I always felt overwhelmed with all the options out there. A new snowboard is such a huge investment and I didn't want to spend that kind of money if my current board wasn't "broken." My husband suggested that I should demo a board so I could at least give a newer board a try without committing to a purchase. Even that idea was daunting to me. Which board would I choose? What size should I choose? What kind of features should I be looking out for? I nearly gave up until we walked into Wave Rave during our first trip back to Mammoth in 4 years. Enter the friendly Wave Rave employee Shane. We casually mentioned to him that I was still riding my old board and wanted to see what would be a good replacement. He asked a few questions about my riding style, etc. and immediately provided a few board suggestions right off the bat. He stressed that the board I've been riding was probably a bit too big for me, at which I scoffed. He was pretty adamant that a smaller size would suit me better and I'd have a lot more control. I decided to give it a shot and demo'd the board he recommended as a replacement and at the size he recommended. That next day on the mountain was game changing! I had so much fun on that board and had so much more control like Shane said I would with the slightly smaller size. In fact, everything Shane said about how that board would ride out react was spot on accurate! That night when I returned the demo rental board, I immediately bought that same board from the previous year, so I got 20% off. I'm so happy Shane was there to provide such helpful guidance for me. He never pushed anything on me; he just provided the facts and his recommendations based on my needs. I also found out that the Wave Rave employees all live locally, know the mountain, and are required to ride at least 4x a week and try all the boards! It's no wonder why their snowboarding knowledge had always been top notch! But special shout out to Shane for making me happy again on the mountain! Not only was he knowledgeable, but his level of service was stellar. He was more than happy to share all his knowledge with his customers. Keep up the great hiring, Wave Rave! My favorite store in Mammoth! Everything you could ever dream of in the snowboard world. The staff here is nothing but nice and always have a great attitude. They're super helpful and knowledgeable about the products they sell. I love the passion this shop has for the local skate and snow scene. They sponsor events, skate camps, contests, and so much more. I've never seen the other "snowboard" shops do anything for the locals as much as wave rave does. I purchase at least 1 new board from here every year and I've never been more happy. I'm like a kid in a candy store!! I come in here often so almost every employee knows me and they always know how to take care of me. Everything in the store is always so clean and tidy. Prices are fair and the service is top notch! First day I went to Wave Race, I was helped by Kai (sp?) and he was AWESOME. Friendly, knowledgable about the products they had, and was super helpful in finding the right product. The store should promote someone this good to management. Second day I went in, I had to deal with Joey. One of the most rude, verbally violent, and disrespectful people I've ever dealt with. While he was helping me, he randomly yells out "F***!!!" at the top of his lungs. I had no idea what was wrong with him. Then he starts interrogating me about why I wanted to return my product. When I return something, I want an easy, smooth process, and not feel like a criminal out to hurt the store. Came up to go skiing for the first time in YEARS. I needed to replace my bindings on my board and was directed to come here by the team over at Footloose. After the initial giggles and jabs in good fun at my "vintage board and boots" Joey P (not the other Joey ) Mary, and Nate, took us under their Wave Rave wing and dialed us in for an epic snow trip! Fresh new bindings, heat gunned and scraped old adhesive from past stomp pad, new stomp pads applied, fresh wax, AND adjusted my stance for a MUCH smoother ride. I have been coming here for at least 10 years now and every single time the employees are pathetic and could genuinely care less if they help you or not. Horrible customer service. We rent a demo with the verbal agreement on the price to buy it if we like it. Not only they haven't honored the price we agreed but also didn't deduct the rental cost as we agreed ( everyone in the business do that) I spent $1000 in two day in that shop and I was bringing my friends to buy their gear. I went in to buy bindings and board ( long overdue) and was helped by Dan. He was super patient with me , explained everything and made the whole experience quite easy. While waiting for my board , I was so impressed with Dan's service that I decided I needed new boots as well and was helped by Teri. I don't think there is anyone out there who has ever explained all the tricks and tips on how to properly fit your boots.- but Teri did and she is amazing. She knows everything about snowboard boots. Just had the worst rental experience ever in mammoth from wave rave. 10am at short notice we need to rent a board for a visitor. When we come to pay at end of process 1015 am the guy says it a full day rate when slopes close at3pm. EVery other rental store is doing half day rates cos the mountain closes early. But worse when I queried the full day rate and said I was a local (lived here 20 years ) he just was rude Said it was a $1000 set up. According to my visitor who rides a lot..it wasn't. Even queried If I even live in mammoth....he queried the zip code on My credit card. Rude awful couldn't give a S*** attitude. This place really went down hill. I've been buying gear from this shop for 20 years. I've recommended it hands down to anyone visiting mammoth. I'm in shock by the meat head bros that hate their life. My recent interaction with Marcus was a waste of breath. I rented 4 boards for 5 days, they did a shit job adjusting bindings and gave me a pair of boots with broken boa. When I notified the manager he seemed like he was doing me a favor by switching out the boots. I really wish I didn't have to write this review. I do know how to contact the owner and will definitely do so. This place can easily be the best snowboard shop in California; but they need to fire these useless bros and hire some people who don't hate life. Fire Marcus, and the guy with the blonde mustache. Came by to get my board waxed and these guys were super helpful. Ended up getting a Burton AK down jacket(which I HIGHLY recommend), and a few other items. The whole time they were helpful in answering questions as far as what different layers you'll need depending on the conditions and explained all the different features of each company's gear. Ended up forgetting my personal jacket on one of the shelves. They grabbed it and held it on to it for me until I returned for it. If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. The manager by the name of Alex physically assaulted me and pushed me out of the store. Completely unprofessional behavior. I have a video of his barbaric behavior as he pushed me. I did not have a temperature, i had actually been under. My partner who had just driven 500 miles in a Beanie had a recorded higher temperature due to his beanie. Instead of telling us sorry i can't let you in due to you're recorded tem, he says "you gotta fuckin go" We stepped out for 3 min so he could cool down as we both had pcr test done, and understand sometimes people get hot. After stepping out briefly we both had normal temperature and then Alex got physical and pushed me out after getting physical with my partner. I willl be filing a police report tomorrow when they police department office is open. read more

Went to get a board and the board they have on display was scratched up so the guy went to the back to see if there was another and he said there were none left but he could offer me 10% off (which is nothing compared to the amount scratches) then I was guilted into taking that board by the guy because "it's just superficial damage and it will happen anyway" a minute into waxing the new board a different guy comes from the back and brings out that exact board they "didn't have anymore of" and I ask if I can pay the 10% difference and have the new board and he refuses (keep in mind I haven't even held this new board and he started waxing without me while I went to grab my bindings out of the car). read more

I bought a new set of Burton bindings online to go with an older Burton board, and they won't install without a "3D adapter plate," which Burton doesn't include in the box. They're allegedly $5.50/each, but Burton doesn't have them in stock, so most retailers and eBayers are charging $40 or more. Jay knew exactly what I needed, had them in stock, and charged me the MRSP $5.50/each. He also installed them quickly. Support your local businesses! read more

Quality service, and quality products! On a recent trip, my dried up board caused me to be extremely slow on the slopes, my ego was dented. Miss Dani is a world class expert snowboarder, and will not be left eating other people's powder... So I brought my board in for a quick wax. The turnaround was a couple of hours, impressive.
