Unbelievably bad experience. Just seconds after Dr. Lebouf delivered the devastating news that my…read moregirl had terminal bone cancer, she launched into a self-righteous lecture about the dangers of grain-free diets. She quoted studies and strongly implied that my feeding choices had caused or contributed to her demise. She even added, "I know it's too late for B, but I know you have another dog and want to protect them." I was too overwhelmed by grief and tears to respond in the moment, but several things went through my mind: * I have no idea why she assumed B was on a grain-free diet. Not even true * This is classic "blame-shifting" but why? * There is no chance shelf stable slop pellets have better outcomes for animals than fresh food diets, I suspected whatever study she referring is going to be about pulse diets, where food slop companies swap out rice for anti-nutrients like chickpeas (terrible for dogs and actually leech nutrients, mostly indigestible). When they asked about her diet, I believe I just said "mostly home made - fresh meat and vegetables." I never said I gave them grain free kibble. I feed my dogs a balanced fresh-food diet (meats, vegetables, and rice in proper ratios, with age- and condition-specific supplements) about 80% of the time. When I can't prepare fresh meals, they get premium kibble (that contains rice), mixed with high-quality wet food. There is zero evidence in the scientific literature comparing a properly balanced fresh diet to commercial kibble. The studies Dr. Lebouf referenced appear to be the familiar ones comparing grain-inclusive kibble to "grain-free" kibble formulas that simply replace grains with pulses and legumes. That is not the same as comparing fresh food to kibble, and it is misleading to present it that way. Earlier this year I brought B in after she suddenly started limping in pain. They diagnosed arthritis and a soft tissue injury, charged $500 for imaging, and sent us home with pain medication. It's hard not to wonder whether the cancer was missed at that visit, considering it was in the exact location. B was a rescue who had endured severe abuse and malnutrition in her early years. She arrived terrified of everyone, trembling and submissive. For some reason she chose to trust me. Within a year she had visibly grown, gained confidence, and become the sweetest, most loving dog. She wasn't supposed to be mine forever, but we became inseparable. Losing her has been heartbreaking. I waited a long time before writing this review. I didn't want it to come purely from grief or anger. I understand that cancer can be difficult to catch, and I wouldn't be writing this if the only issue had been a missed diagnosis. I'm writing because of the condescending, sanctimonious way Dr. Lebouf spoke to me during this moment. She quoted science in a misleading way - I believe - because she either didn't actually read it or doesn't understand what it says. To be clear - there are NO STUDIES comparing grain free fresh food diets to kibble with grains. But this is how it was framed as if gospel. It was so inappropriate, but also inaccurate. I can only assume this is being preached repeatedly to other pet parents at the clinic. Many other staff members at the clinic are genuinely kind and great with animals.

Few minutes later, a very nice technician invited us into an examine room. First thing.....weighed the dog. Did the clerical tasks, name, email, any concerns, what we fed the dog....... Nothing has changed, why type the info into the system if you're going to ask the same questions every time we're in? Vet entered room....first thing, weight! Vet might have spent 5 minutes giving the dogs "annual physical". Looked at teeth, ears.....the end. No heart check, no dexterity checks, never mentioned fatty tumors. Almost $100 for the "annual physical". Glad it's only once a year.

Less than an hour before our appointment, I called to cancel and Courtney immediately offered to get me in ASAP, 2 weeks later. We had our appointment today and both Courtney and Joe out front were lovely! (there was a 3rd person that I did not get to interact with, but based on the track record, I'm sure she is a delight as well!!). We were brought in and a nurse did a quick once over with my little girl, Cookie, before Dr. Ring came in. The whole appointment was very efficient but very friendly and well done. They gave my cat a very calm and safe environment in which she only once got feisty (and, I mean, if you were putting things up my butt to check some glands, I might also have some opinions on that so... ya know, fair!) No question I asked was considered stupid or treated less than anyone with years more experience as a cat owner. I was made to feel like I'm giving her a good home and doing a great job taking care of her. I'm extremely pleased with the appointment and the staff. At the end of the day, everything was roughly $230 but I was given an itemized bill at the end and, honestly, the pricing felt very fair. I know my little old lady will be in good hands here.

There are plenty of good veterinary hospitals out there. This is not one of them…read more There's one nice lady who seldom works the front desk here, I believe her name is Cathy. Everyone else who works at the desk and answers the phone is mis.er.able. I don't know if they're forced to work for cat toys or something, but they are some of the rudest people I've encountered anywhere. One of the veterinarians made our dog fall about 4 feet off a table with no apology. The one hippy-ish guy is nice, but that's it. They almost never answer the phone when we call and while they advertise themselves as being open on Saturdays, good luck with that. Oh, and if you would like to find out if they are open? Don't bother calling, because they won't answer even if they ARE there. Half the times we called on Saturdays (and no one ever answered), someone would be there when we arrived. Other times no one would be there. Very professional. When you work Monday-Friday, this of course becomes a problem when they're not open and so we occasionally have tried to go after work. Well, last night we confirmed they were open until 6:00. Get out of work late in downtown Portland, battle the hell that is Forest Avenue traffic, get stuck as a train comes through. At this point it's a little before 5:50 and we try calling to let them know that we will be there by 6:00 (everything has been ordered, this is a simple pick-up). SURPRISE, no one answers the phone. We finally pull in the parking lot at 5:53 and it appears as if the person leaving in a car is someone who works there. Try the door, and at not even 5:55 they are locked and no one is home. So we rushed, battled the traffic, still arrived on time to find they were closed and then turned around and drove back into downtown Portland; a true wasted trip. I used to work retail and got in trouble if we closed 5 minutes early and that was selling stupid merchandise, this is a vet where people need medications for their animals and they can't be bothered to stay open until the posted time? Or you know, occasionally answer the phone? This was the last straw for us. Unless they can find a way to straighten this place out, I would recommend using almost anyone else.

Came back from the hospital from an overnight surgery, had a friend watching the cats, left knowing that Sketchy was not feeling well. Came home and he was much worse. Looked like he had a lung infection, most like all he really needed was some antibiotics to deal with it, but he was in bad shape at that point, and needed care right away. This was Friday March 12th. Called the vet, got a guy on the phone that told me they were all booked up until Monday the 15th. I told him I didn't think that Sketch would make it that long. He told me to take him to the emergency clinic. I said that I just got out of surgery, and was right up the street, had no car, and no $, and they charged double, but had $1,200.00 on an account with THEM, and surely they could make a hole for this cat, as bad a shape as he was in. He had the nerve to tell me that if it was that bad to just get him to the emergency clinic, and they would put him down for free... No one I knew had any money at the time, or I would have taken him to another vet, and this poor cat that I had for 14 years died horribly gasping for breath at 5:20 Monday morning the 15th with me holding him and bawling my eyes out. Got a check a couple days later for my $1,200.00 outside the place from the owner of the Vet Hospital, asked him how it felt to know that they let my Sketchy die for no reason then they thought appointments for someones shots were more important, and the guy just looked at me like I was a turd floating in the bowl and turned and walked back into the building and never said a word to me. Never EVER take your fur babies to this place.....
