A week after I left items to be sold I stopped in to see what they were priced at. I did not see 2 of them - shoes & a purse. I stopped in again the following week and still did not see them so I assumed they were sold. I never got paid for these 2 items after 4 months sooooo? I brought in 2 dresses that had matching bolero style jackets. Again I stopped in to see how they were priced. Both dresses were on the rack for sale missing the bolero jackets. I questioned the salesperson on duty telling her that these were my consigned items and the jackets were missing. Response was "oh they sometimes get misplaced.". She did locate one of the jackets and promised to look for the other. I returned several weeks later the jacket was still not found. So my experience was horrible. Would. or patronize this store ever. read more

I am speechless at the change in attitude and store appearance since my last visit where I gave a glowing review and have recommended several customers that have purchased a fair amount of items over the past several months. Today I encountered some confusion with staff about Consignment pieces. The items were listed as active, but difficult to find or missing. The store appears a bit disheveled and a musty odor was noted by myself and another shopper. While helping to search for my own Consignment pieces I found a number of empty jewelry packages and mistreated items. Possibly this due to a pending change in ownership. A worker, possibly current owner, approached me with the form of agreement that I did not receive for the items. Her rudeness , sarcasm and dismissiveness threw the enjoyment of being a consigner and customer out the door. Sad when experiences such as this happen. Hoping for them, it was an off day, but I can no longer endorse a recommendation . read more

We love visiting consignment shops because you just never know what you'll find. This shop is big, very clean and organized with a friendly staff. I bought a cute and very clean white sequined shoulder bag that was on sale for only $6. They have a lot of women's clothing both formal and casual. Everything looked very clean and well cared for. After reading some of the older reviews I have to say the owners must have made some improvements in the last couple of years. There was no odor in this building at all. Everything looked clean. If you want to consign items you will need to call them and make an appointment. You also have the option to shop online for this shop which is very convenient. We would highly recommend you stop in and take a look around. We'll be back when we're in the area again. read more

Was driving around going to various antique shops and happened to see s sign for this place. Thought we'd check it out and found a nice, clean, and organized shop that was bigger than we expected. A lot of good items here at very low prices. You will not be disappointed if you come here and I would be surprised if you don't pick anything up you like. Check out the place! read more

Large selection of women's clothing but definitely overpriced for most items. You could buy newer versions of many items at marked down department store prices for the same price Cedar Chest III charges. The only thing this consignment shop has going for it is that all of the items are clean and undamaged. Also, you have the satisfaction of knowing you're helping to extend the life of the pieces you buy. This store is a step up from Goodwill and Salvation Army thrift stores but not nearly as good as many designer consignment stores for the price. read more

I will never go back to this business again! My friend who has trouble walking doesn't get out much, wanted to spend her Saturday going to one of her favorite shops. Well, No Longer!! Sometimes nature calls at a very inconvenient time! My friend approached the desk where 3 men/boys were standing, she asked if she could use the ladies room and they sent her next door to the Dollar Tree. He said we send everyone over there. She with her cane went next door and was told it was out of order ( or just sick of having people sent over there). She came back and pleaded with the boys to please use the bathroom and without skipping a beat said why don't you try Odd lots! Come on!! A small business should not treat people this way! My friend does not look like a homeless person but was treated like one! She was embarrassed and humiliated!!! Has anyone ever been treated like this? Shameful. read more

These people are very rude. I used to bring things to consign here but after I consigned some beautiful dishes and found that they sold for $3.40 I was pretty dismayed. One of the employees bought them - hence the extremely low price. Also, they used to return your items that didn't sell. They don't do that anymore. They keep them and either "donate" them or put them in their stock. Doesn't sound right to me. When they first came to town they were nice. Not anymore. And the smell in the store is rather nauseating - like some of the clothing needs to be sorely washed. read more

With both Fantasia Consignments and Goodwill nearby, there is absolutely no need to stop at this place. I was a little put off that a clothing store smelled like stuffed cabbage. I'm sorry, I don't want my clothes to smell like stuffed cabbage. In terms the prices and selection of the merchandise, it was a hit or miss. I don't think there are fussy regarding what they accept because I saw some jackets that looked like they were from 1992. However, I was glad a business moved into that desolate shopping center. read more

While Fantasia remains my area favorite, the Cedar Chest III store does have hidden gems and I've found great, well-priced, well-made clothing and shoes here. Stopping by once or twice a month guarantees enough fresh stock. Once you figure out the store layout (dresses/designers in front, Chico's-type brands on a separate rack, main categories of clothing in long, Goodwill-style racks that run the store's full length), it's easy to isolate what you're looking for. They also seem to have the best selection of plus-size clothing I've seen around. Though the store's cavernous size doesn't lend itself to an intimate, boutique setting that most shoppers would find more welcoming, the sheer quantity means that I find far more items to try on than in many other shops. And with about 5-6 well-sized dressing rooms and no try-on limit, I'm able to shop more efficiently and without waiting. Yes, the quality and pricing can be mixed, but only once in my 8 or more trips there have I left empty-handed. Their markdowns and special color-tag reductions make most prices on par with or below other area shops. I've never consigned here but have always found the staff to be accommodating and friendly. read more

This consignment shop is great! I have found most of the prices fair, especially when things are on sale. I have purchased household items, children's clothing and both men's and women's clothes. I have shopped Resale shops for over 30 years, both in CT and NYS. The Cedar Chest Old Saybrook store offers a wide variety of shopping opportunities. The only suggestion I would make is that the purses that are on shelves behind glass be better displayed (even hanging on the wall behind the counter like the Branford store used to do). I am quite particular about the strap length of a purse, style, etc., and you really can't inspect the purse from the other side of the counter 10 feet away. There is a rope across advising only employees can go on the other side of the counter, so It is hard to really look at them, unless an employee waits on you personally. There has to be a better solution. read more

I absolutely LOVE this consignment store! I always find clothes here. The prices are fabulous for brand names like Michael Kors, Banana Republic and Gap. They have an awesome selection of high end handbags on consignment. I brought a few clothing items to consign and they sold quickly and at a great price. :) I wish I saw the 20% offer before I left the store today with my new jeans ;) read more
