The Cellar is a solid spot for cheap food/beers. It's dimly lit with at least 10 flat screen tv's for optimal sports viewing. A negative is that they don't have NFL Network/Red Zone so don't go there on a Sunday expecting to be able to watch your pick of the NFL games on that day. Now I'm fully aware that this is a bar and that most people probably don't consider it a viable option when it comes to take out, but they promote their take-out menu and I've had good bar food in the past so I'm not cutting this place too much slack. I've ordered from there a couple times now- getting things like burgers, steak tips and grilled ham and cheeses and have been pretty disappointed. First of all whoever works/cooks there doesn't seem to have a grasp on their menu. The steak tips are supposed to come with a choice of side and a vegetable, but when I opened the container I got a few pieces of steak and a scoop of mashed potatoes. Now I know potatoes are technically a side and vegetable, but if it's going to count for both at least give me two scoops! Also on more than one occasion the food was cold by the time I picked it up. I don't want to comment on the atmosphere too much because it's a bar and I'm literally just in and out, but I definitely get that vibe when I open the door that the regulars are like "who the F is this guy"? But that's probably just me being neurotic. read more

Really great prices for lunch. Kind of a hole in the wall with lotta regulars usually drinking beer and watching sports. Food is actually really good and fast and it's a great place if you wanna play keno too. I've had a few of their lunch specials like the hot dog and Mac and cheese and they were always good. Although I've lived in Abington for over 25 years I only tried this place about a month ago. My wife and I tried on a whim when the Abington Depot was closed for vacation and we are definitely fans. We have been there weekly now. It's definitely a townie place and is indeed in a cellar. The bartenders always make you feel welcome and they have a pretty fair selection of beers (I wish they had more imports on tap like a good IPA) There is a food special just about every night. $2.00 bar pizzas Sunday and Monday for instance (eat in only.) Really like their appetizers here which are available at half price on some nights. Just the other night I was trying to decide between wings and mini tacos and the bartender told be right out that the mini tacos weren't that good that I should go with the wings. That gets extra points from me for being frickin' honest! The wings were awesome (can be ordered with a variety of sauces but had the buffalo). The Ultimate Nachos are just OK mainly due to the chili. They make their own chili but it's pretty bland stuff and needs a taste boost (dude - try some chili pepper and cumin) The onion rings and french fries are just excellent. The pastrami sandwich was very tasty and well portioned. You can see from the items reviewed that this is NOT a fine dining establishment. It's just a really good, reasonable, friendly neighborhood pub. And that's a big plus in my book. read more

Personally Danielle (My Girlfriend) and I love this place. Since moving to Abington in 2009 we've regularlly have been going to the Cellar. The Place has no bad smell to it. It smells fine. There's a mix of older and younger ppl in the afternoon. The same can be said for the night maybe more younger then older but a nice mix none the less. 8 Giant LCD 57inch flat screens line the walls along with great sports paraphernalia (pictures, newspapers, signs, etc). They always have your favorite sports teams LIVE on TV. Half price apps sun and mon, and half price pizza mon and thur. The pizza is good bar pizza. And the food is above normal for a bar. It's very tasty. They have special everyday which we've never had a special we have not liked. She's telling me to say the Seafood scallop and shrimp special we had last week was 5 star quality. They have great drinks. $2 dollar draft beer, and strong liquor drinks are among some. The staff is friendly, we love Heather, Justin, and Rachel to name a few. If ppl had a problem at the Cellar i'm pretty sure they were drunk and just in a bad mood. I can confidently say as of December 20 of 2011 everything I said above is how the Bar is today. I've lived in Abington my whole life, so I checked out this place when I was back from college one break. I heard that this place was a little rough, but I've never had a problem there. The staff is pleasant enough, but the music is too loud to actually be able to have a few drinks and talk with friends. The cheap beers and specials keep a loyal base of customers. Good for them. But I'll head over to a different bar unless I want to buy a round for my friends and only spend $10. read more

Disappointing is the first word that comes to mind. I went there for dinner and drinks with my man. The place was very small with only about 8 people but felt like so much more because it was so noisy. The food was OK but nothing to write home about. Tried to use the Entertainment Book coupon for our dinner but the waitress said the owner was new and would not honor it. She even lied and said that there was a sign posted on the door about rejecting the coupon. If the place changed owners but kept the name, they should have honored the coupon or at least gave us some discount. We left as soon as the check was paid. read more

As my 40 years of experience in imbibing at dives makes me more or less an expert on "dive" bars, I have to say this is one of the best. My wife loves the food (I never eat on a dry stomach), the drafts are cheap, the bartenders are simply the best and the customers are friendly. It's dark and quiet enough to actually have a conversation (early in evening anyway), my wife loves the male bartenders and any man will love the female bartenderettes. read more

I drove in from out of town to run in this crazy 200 mile Ragnar relay race! Which is super fun. If you're a runner you should totally do it!! My team was staying at a hotel in Rockland. I was in NY so it was about a 3hr 45min drive. I worked all day, didn't really have time to eat and just packed a quick bag with my gear and hit the road. I got to the hotel and my team was about an hour away. Which was perfect! I had time to find a spot and get my carbs on and have a beer to relax. So I jumped on yelp and looked for the best dive bar close to my hotel. Bam. 4 Stars. Cellar Tavern. Took me like 10 minutes to get there, By then I was ready to chew my arm off. Found parking right outside score!! Walk in and the bar was jam packed. I quickly used to the facilities after an almost 4 hour drive a girls gotta go! So talked to a few locals and realized there was a Bruins game on. Which explains the crowd. Luckily one gentleman saw the distress on my face for a bar stool and said he was leaving and graciously gave me his chair. I was excited as I had already previewed the menu and knew exactly what I wanted, So the bartender comes over and I order a mich ultra and a menu so I can point out the meal I had already decided on. The young girl, who could've been my daughter if I was teen mom asked me for my ID. I gladly handed it over to her, being 33 you get excited about that kind of thing. She asked me me if I had any other form of ID bc my ID was from out of state. I said yes. Bc I not only am licensed to drive in NY I am also licensed to drive in California. So I handed over that license too, In addition to that I had both my non expired IDs and expired IDs, SO I put 4 forms of picture ID with me and my birthdate on it. Im 33 what could POSSIBLY be the issue. She said she can't accept it and told me I had to leave the bar. I was nothing but super nice. I am a bartender at a very popular tavern where I'm from. The gentleman next to me said that he cannot believe how rude the bartender was to me and told me not to judge their state on this young lady. He said maybe I should ask to speak to a manager. The gentleman on the other side of me said he was from out of state and no one asked him for his ID so he thought it was crazy that I had 2 forms of legitimate IDs and still wasn't able to be served. He was like you're older than me, We had a laugh. Since making new friends I took the advice of the gentleman on my left and said may i speak with a manager maybe he can bring out the state ID book and verify me? She said she was the manager. She looked like she was about 16 and all pierced up. I said ok. I didn't make a big deal even though I almost died of starvation, bc I am in the industry. Both the men apologized for the bartenders attitude. Even though they were only patrons. I'm a happy person so I just moved on with my life, Said my goodbyes and left. So if I had to rate anything the patrons are great, The bathroom had toilet paper, I can't tell you about the food or anything else bc I wasn't allowed to try it. The management/bartender not exactly friendly or welcoming. Maybe one day they will let people from other states try their food and cocktails. I will post pictures of my valid IDs if anyone else wants to see how old lady like I am. My brother just moved to the area. Which is even crazier. Maybe if i use his ID ill be able to get some wings and a beer. I would say stay away from here unless you live in the state of Mass. read more

Personally, I hated this place. My fiance and I moved from Boston to Abington last year, and while I enjoy a good dive bar, this place was just nasty. It reaked... of God only knows.... the mix of people was just BIZARRE.... young jocky kids, obnoxious older dudes .... skanky girls - old haggy women. It was just so confusing. The DJ was blasting "hits" from the early/mid 90s ... OPP!?? I swear they played that at my 8th grade dances.... I ordered a vodka tonic and almost spit out my first sip, since the bartender neglected to tell me they did not have TONIC water, and instead it tasted like swampy tap water (or very flat soda water) mixed with vodka. Had I known that, I would have ordered it on the rocks to at least preserve the integrity of the poor vodka. The music was so loud, you couldn't hear yourself think and I had to scream in my fiance's ear when talking to him... and he still couldn't hear me. Instead of loosening up with a few drinks after our night out, this place left me in a pissy mood and vowing never to set foot in there again. read more
