In front is a carfully manicured lawn and well maintained fountain, perfect for post wedding photos. The house has a couple floors and a back patio. The back patio made for great spill over and was a relaxing brick-lined space, dinner was on the middle level and dancing was downstairs. The house can feel a llittle cramped at times so if you're planning a wedding with over maybe 80 people I'm not sure if it'll work for you.

The food was also incredibly good and the bar even took the steps to serve modified Old Fashioneds (no simple syrup). However, their customer service ahead of and at the end of the wedding (and even how they treat their staff) was well below expectations. And as you will see in their response below, they continue to argue with customers (and in this case their guests after the fact). It's quite surprising to see a vendor argue with someone in a public place. A bit about my background, I led a $2B business selling to a major retailer - and in my career, I never argued back with that customer because it seemed dumb to argue with folks keeping us in business. So, the response below (and now in a picture) is shocking to see on a $30k+ per transaction business. It also seems to imply that 'pushy attitude' is written in their contract and they will not flex from what's in the contract. Example, the venue had no booking during the day and so opening early, seemed possible [maybe they bill for 1-2 people to be there from the venue itself?]. Their actions and sometimes lack of - led to a higher than expected stress level for the bride and family. All of these things seem easy to remedy on their part. However, if you decide to get married here - it seems critical to have everything you expect of them spelled out in the contract (down to requiring the demeanor of the management to be polite, consistent, and responsive). As I understand it, many commitments were made by the venue ahead of the big day - only to be told over email at 1 AM, two nights before, were not included. This is after leading up to the event never being able to have a consistent contact person - perhaps, requiring the event sales rep to give their cell # to customers is a good idea? One example, was saying last minute they would not provide vases for the flowers on tables. In a last stitch effort, vases were rented from the florist. Day of, the venue was insistent that those coming to decorate could not be in Ivy Hall any sooner than 4pm for a 6pm start. At the end of the night, the staff quickly broke down the tables and expected those of us packing up the gifts, vases, flowers, signs, etc to be extremely quick. Amidst that chaos, there were candles and plastic domes around them sitting next to other things that were the wedding party's. We started packing the white candles and the manager came over and said "Those aren't yours! And great, you messed them up!" She then proceeded to chastise the bar tender for not paying attention to us stealing things. Why would we want 10-20 used candles? And, my girlfriend overheard them loudly say 'we're trying to get them out of the bridal suite' - when they were packing up the bride's things. As an aside, it takes me back a little to have the management call the bride's family "vendors" in her response (see picture) as we were the ones setting up and taking down decorations. Great venue, good food, bad service. A well spelled out contract defining your (not just theirs as the management states in their comment) expectations is a must-have if you do a wedding or other event at Ivy Hall. You only get one wedding, venues do many of them - might consider elsewhere if you are seeking guidance from the venue's experts throughout this once in a lifetime event for you.

Easy to get to and from, and parking wasn't bad. This is a relatively new event space on Huff Road, situated between Souper Jenny Westside and Apex West Midtown (Agavero, Twisted Soul). The 42West event space is hidden. It occupies more than half of the building in the back. We mostly spent time in the indoor event space (5,800 square feet) and string-lit upper patio just outside (900 square feet). The event was an Indian sangeet and mehndi. It was a lot like an American wedding reception. There was a catered buffet dinner, performances, and dancing. Hundreds of guests attended. I thought 42West was well-suited for the amount of people, the numerous food stations, and bar (or two, I can't remember). Caterers and other vendors parked their trucks and vehicles in the small parking lot in front of the building. Guests parked across the street at 1075 Huff Road. We came for a spoken word event called "Identity", a production of the Story Collider, which cost only $10/adult. This event had 5 scientists get on stage and provide stories of their lives and how science played a part in their self discovery. The Highland Inn Ballroom was an excellent choice for this event. Intimate feel, but enough seats to seat a full room of folks. Small stage, but again, increased intimate feel, adjacent full bar that was active and serving customers throughout the night., and lots of lovely interior to stroll through and photograph. About the only thing I could complain about was that at times the AC didn't appear to be working as well as it could, and it was very warm. Even the warm temperature was addressed Parking for the Highland Inn...I laughed when I saw the lot, because it's "THAT" lot that enforces parking if you're trying to slip in for lunch at a nearby restaurant, including Sweet Auburn BBQ, which is next door. That definitely burns you when you're hungry, but you smile when you're going to the inn, since that parking is yours! From N. Highland Ave, the lot goes down sharply since the lot is on a downward slope, but there is an exit at the bottom of the hill that exits out to Blue Ridge ave. Nice! Staff were friendly, the lounge was good for the event, and this hidden in plain site place is worth checking out.

Attending a book reading and signing event - George Saunders, writer extraordinaire, reading from his latest, "Tenth of December" - might be a different experience than the norm, but I thoroughly enjoyed the funky cool vibe of the space. Plenty of room for 150 people or so to mix and mingle, and the wait for the bar was never long. With a $6 special for well drinks, I was a happy girl. Keep an eye out for future book readings here, usually in partnership with A Cappella Books. For an author you like, it's definitely worth the time and expense. The staff is welcoming and friendly, and will happily call a cab for you at the end of the evening.

Good space for parking once we found the building. The staff was very professional and accommodating. The bathroom was clean and provided Bath & Body Works lotion! The building was large, nicely decorated, and beautifully set-up for an event that's known to sell-out within hours of posting their dates & locations. The bar did take credit cards, but the drink choices were limited. There was also a vendor there that sold $10 wine glasses. I've been to painting events and felt like the space was tight, but here I was able to enjoy myself and not feel like I was going to knock over my neighbors paint brushes!!! After a night of painting, wine, and dancing all I need was some sleep (and epsom salt)...

First, it's a very beautiful location with lots of historic charm. The original building was built in the 1840s with additions and renovations throughout the years. Sunny, the owner, originally gave my daughter and her fiancee a tour of the facilities. She showed them photo albums to give them an idea of the type of wedding they could expect at Naylor Hall. She answered all of their questions. She was professional and friendly. Abbey, the wedding coordinator, was wonderful. She kept everybody relaxed and organized during the rehearsal and on the day of the wedding. She ensured that we knew exactly what to do and when to do it. She kept everybody on time, and she ensured that we had a successful, enjoyable event. The rest of the staff was also great. Hal, the DJ, played all of the songs selected by my daughter, and he was a good MC for the post reception activities, such as the cutting of the cake, first dance, father-daughter dance, and throwing of the bouquet. Eric, the photographer, was professional, organized and courteous. He gave clear instructions to the wedding party and ensured that he captured lots of wonderful photos. During the reception, he was present at all the right moments to capture memories shared by my daughter and now son-in-law with their friends and family. Raul, the bartender, was friendly and provided excellent service. He kept our guest's glasses filled and anticipated our needs throughout the evening. The rest of the staff, including many servers, made the event a big success. One thing to keep in mind is that my daughter's wedding took place during COVID. The staff at Naylor Hall took many precautions to ensure that guests were safe. They provided commemorative face masks and multiple hand sanitizing stations for our friends and family. Based upon the attention to detail placed into the planning and implementing of the event, we would highly recommend Naylor Hall if you are looking for a venue to hold a special occasion, such as a wedding.

Each time we called we spoke with someone different at their answering service and each person we spoke too either had a rude attitude or seemed to have no clue what they were talking about. We were told they would reach our to the venue & would receive an immediate call back. That never happened & at one point we were told someone was on the way and would be there in 10 minutes. Neither of these things ever happened. You would thing someone could have at least returned the phone call. We would have been understanding if there were some sort of confusion on their end, but to completely ignore the situation was just wrong. We received an email from Naylor Hall the following day claiming they did not receive confirmation of the tour. However, we have the email with confirmation. I have zero confidence in a wedding venue planning my daughters big day when they cannot even show up for a tour. Needless to say this was a blessing in disguise as my daughter found her dream venue & they were by far the most professional people we have met in this entire planning process.
