The Cheese Store is such an amazing treasure: delicious dairy breakfast options, tremendous selection of coffees, and grab and go items like cheese, nuts and even gift items. I visited here from Texas, and I wish I could pack the entire store up and take it home with me.

I ordered what was advertised as a Tuna Pesto Panini for pick-up on their website. The panini cost $14, but I was charged $18.63 after tax, fees, and an automatic $1.40 tip. Upon arrival, staff appeared perplexed that an online order was placed. I then waited for several minutes as they scrambled to get my order ready. When I picked up my To Go bag I noticed immediately that it felt very light for what I had ordered. Once in my car I took a bite of the sandwich. No tuna... just a light spread of pesto and a meager sprinkling of cheese. I went back into the store and asked for Tuna Pesto panini. They seemed confused that this was an option. Upon comparison with their in store menu, their website menu appears to have errors. Anyways... they took my order back. I guess I was wrong to assume that I would have a new sandwich made. They dissembled the "panini" and threw some tuna in the middle. Weird... gross. Will not be back.

How is this establishment not more heavily reviewed? The cheese store is famous in the Five Towns and fills a very specific niche. The hype surrounding this place is for the iced coffee. They do not mess around and it serves them well. They're popular because they have so many flavors to choose from (almost 100.....). Although, many flavors taste too similar to be considered different. Also, the hot coffee is underrated and good as well! People seem to come here exclusively for iced coffee but they have a couple hot flavors as well. (Disclaimer: they do not do espresso drinks) This is by no means the best coffee I've ever had but it's still okay! Obviously, they sell a lot of cheese as well (many are Kosher!) but I've only gotten manchego a handful of times. They always dice this cheese which is strange because manchego is really supposed to be sliced. But I am just being a snob now so w/e. In addition to the iced coffee and cheese, they have a large assortment of specialty foods covering every inch of the place. The store is overwhelming at first but also kind of welcoming in a way that makes you want to support local businesses. Also, they open relatively late in the AM for a place that takes so much pride in their coffee (8am) So unless you live or work down the block, this isn't your morning coffee stop. Also, Saturday is the best time to go because it's one of the few businesses in the area that's open so there's ample parking and hardly any line. This is important because they don't really work with urgency. They move kind of slow and sometimes dilly dally which is frustrating because buying coffee is supposed to be a very quick, in and out type of ordeal. Sunday in the area is pure chaos. Location wise, the cheese store is not really "on the way" to anywhere so you'd have to make it a point to stop in. All in all, the place is overly hyped but I'd stop in again for old time's sake. It takes me back to my high school days.

About 6 months after I moved here the Village Cheese Merchant opened and I could not be happier :) I've been to the store a number of times and their cheese and meat options are plentiful. They also have tons of crackers, spreads, chocolates and other fun trinkets. The team there is more then happy to help you make your selection based on preferences (i.e. - a nutty Gouda) and you can sample as well! With everything going on right now the Village Cheese Merchant remains open for curbside pickup. I recently placed an order over the phone and it was very easy to articulate my choices and have the cheese monger make selections. I ordered 3 cheese, a baguette, meat and they suggested a fruit bar. All of it was AMAZING. I told them what time I'd like to pick it up and they asked my car type. When I arrived my purchase was safely dropped in my passenger side seat. It could not have been safer or easier. Will definitely be ordering again!! Who doesn't love a charcuterie board with some vino? My personal faves - drunken goat (cheese) and speck (meat)!

This place is a nightmare. It's a very cute shop, but they should not be providing food preparation…read moreservices. Where do I begin? I went into the store and ordered a large cheeseboard for Thanksgiving, a month in advance, with specific instruction to not include nuts given I have a severe nut allergy. They said no problem, just a simple omission. I spoke to them again the morning of by calling to confirm the pick-up time. All seemed well. When I arrived to pick it up, it was very clear that they had lost my box. They were scrambling around and avoiding me, blaming the manager. Finally, they fished something out of the back with no name tag or label, which I assume was not something made specifically for me, but an alternative to band-aid the situation. Knowing this, I asked them to confirm it had no nuts, and it was clear the store associate hadn't even remembered. She opened the box and (surprise!) full of nuts. But wait, it gets worse... The store associate proceeded to throw $10 at me, told me to go buy a coffee, and she would re-make one for me. Very weird and unprofessional, but I thanked her nonetheless and sat down and waited. A few minutes later, another customer who had been waiting by the counter came up to me concerned, and told me that the store associate was not redoing my box and was simply taking the nuts off the top. She told me her son has a peanut allergy and she understands how severe they are, and was worried about cross-contamination. I could not believe it. I spoke to the store associate again who, flustered, understood and then proceeded to re-do the box AGAIN, albeit without cleaning down the area or wearing gloves. Reminder - there was just nuts everywhere. My final box was then slapped together in 5 minutes, sloppily tied together with twine, and not even put back into a box for easy transport. No apology from a manager, hardly any apology from the store associates Needless to say, I will not be risking the ER on Thanksgiving by eating this overpriced cheeseboard. I went to Fourchette because based on the curation of the store, I expected an elevated and tastefully-arranged board with gourmet food and French flair. Instead, I got a $250 board that was haphazardly thrown together in 5-10 minutes with no adherence to deadly food allergies and some of the poorest customer service I've ever experienced. Two customers in the store were kinder to me and more concerned about my food allergies than the store itself. Don't waste your money on their cheeseboards. There are other cheeseboard services in the area with better equipped kitchens, kinder staff, and attention to detail.
