What I received were 15 black sex link roosters which I find really disturbing as black sex links have nearly a 100% sexing. I emailed looking to get a replacement and I was dismissed, I had $40 in feed into them as well. All they would do is refund me which did not cover my costs. This is a huge error to ship 15 roosters!! They even said they were Barred Rocks and were still laying hens. You think they would know that a black sex link rooster has the same color pattern as a Barred Rock. This is what makes them a sex link. read more

For the first time this past spring we ordered from The Chick Hatchery. We normally have used other sites to resupply our small domestic flock. The chicks arrived healthy and grew well. Eventually one proved to be a rooster and had to be dealt with. Good checking at the beginning can prevent sending roosters, but it does happen. But now that they are laying, we can see that quite a few are not what was ordered. We got a group of light brown layers which we did not order. That kind of breed mistake is more than missing a rooster at Day One. It's either sloppy breeding or slipping cheaper birds in with the higher end ones we ordered. As a result, we won't be using The Chick Hatchery again. read more

Great service and respond time. I ordered 50 cornish cross hens shipping jun 3rd. They arrived on June 5th. When we openrd the box it was a big mass of indistinguishable bodies, about half were decomposed. We got the live chicks out and only lost a few more. Reported the incident with pictures and filled all the info they needed on the report. Within 4 hours I had a reply, expressing how sorry they were and they were contacting the post concerning the matter. They informed me I would recieve new chicks the following week. I just picked up the chicks. They replaced the complete order. All but one chick was happy and healthy. I am extremely happy with the communication and response in such a timely manner. All the chicks arrived healthy, with heat, and an extra chick was included. My main disappointment is that 3 of the 5 "barnevelders" look very mixed and the other two have poor lacing. It's fine, as I'm not going to show them and I enjoy them all the same. Since the box they came in showed a different hatchery's name I reached out to the Chick Hatchery to inquire what the chicks might be mixed with.
