A local gem! I had been driving to Canton's TSC and little did I know, Chap's was right down the street on 5 mile in Livonia. They have everything you could need when it comes to pets/feed. I have backyard chickens, so I was there for chicken feed & straw. I walked in and was immediately helped by one of the friendly staff members, who pointed me in the right direction & then helped me load my car. I like to patron family owned businesses and this place had feed for half the price of chain stores such as Pet Supplies Plus. Other items, such as the water bottle for pets, cost the same. It was much smaller than I expected tho. read more

I swear I could spend a day in here, poking around the narrow aisles and looking at all the various pet goodies. Fancier (aka healthier organic) wet and dry cat foods. Tons of bird feeders to choose from. Bulk wild bird food at very reasonable prices. Knowledgeable staff. They still offer to carry the heavy stuff out to your car for you (nice touch). Park in the back. You can get there by taking the narrow drive to left of the store (which is also where one of the doors is) or by going to the right of the store next door (both share the same parking lot). read more

This place is great. I usually don't write reviews but they really go above and beyond. The staff is super knowledgeable and they all make it a point to go above and beyond when it comes to customer service. A lot of the products they sell are obviously very heavy so the staff members carry the heavy stuff out to your car. It may sound like a little thing but it's often the small things that make customers want to keep coming back. I had an experience at another feed store in Warren that was the complete opposite. I was worried I would be stuck having to go back there to get the feed my quail need but I was pleasantly surprised when I came across Chap's. I was looking for a new, healthier dry dog food and saw on the Fromm's website that Chap's sold Fromm's products. After price comparing, Chap's definitely won - they sold a 24 lb bag of Fromm's Four Star for about $70 which was almost half the price on Amazon! The specific flavor that I wanted was a new flavor and wasn't in stock, but Chap's offered to order it and called me the day that it was delivered. I went to the store to pick it up, and someone immediately greeted me and asked if I needed any help. All the employees there seemed very nice, and they carried the heavy bag out to my car for me. The store seems a bit claustrophobic and overwhelming because it's a long and narrow building with shelves from floor to ceiling, but at least they carry lots of different products. I will definitely be back when my dog finishes the food! Great customer service, and I enjoy supporting the local small business. read more

This place rocks. A couple years ago my GSD developed some food sensitivities, and I needed to switch her to a different diet. I did a lot of research on which food was the best food. On a side note, if you think the "vet only" food that your vet sells is the best food for your dog, you are wrong!! But that is out of scope of this review. Anyway, the chain stores (Petco, Pets Supplies Plus, PetSmart, etc) just don't carry that great of a selection IMHO. Maybe a little better than what you're going to find in the grocery store, but not much, relatively speaking. If you're looking for a brand that suffers from lack of distribution, Chap's is your store...they will have it, or if they don't they will get on the phone and get it for you. Do not let the store fool you...it is not all shiny and immaculate with wide aisles and bright lights. It is a raw, tiny place that is literally stacked floor to ceiling with the things your pet needs. Dog, cat, bird, it doesn't matter, they have it or can get it. Service is top notch...I've been buying there for over 2 years now and they have held food for me, called around and gotten food for me, and more. They never have an attitude, never look at me like my request is crazy, none of that. It is always "yes, we have it" or "no, we don't have it but we can get it and it will be X days and Z price". All in all, my kind of store. I won't shop anywhere else...I buy my dog's treats online because they are cheaper, but for food it is Chap's all the way. read more

I cannot tell you how wonderful of a place it is to have nearby for every possible thing you could need to help manage your pet supplies, lawn supplies, etc. I have went in there a handful of times and I am just blown away by the variety of food they have for dogs, cats, amphibians, deer, birds, etc etc... The staff there is really helpful too.... they are very knowledgeable for everything in your situation. Recently moving here I have a very active backyard with deer visiting us quite frequently... so I wanted to make sure that I had some feed for when the deer come by, and they recommended to me a good combination that have keep the deer coming back for more. Their bird feeders seem a little pricey, but then again, you're not buying the mass produced items that you'd find at the big chain stores. I would recommend this place to anyone that is looking to get food for any of their animals. read more

My rabbits have tried about 10 different types of pellets, from plain to frou-frou, and there's nothing they like better than the bulk feed from Chap's. It's inexpensive, and so is the bale hay (even the bagged hay is cheaper than any other pet food store). And my rabbits love it! They dance whenever I come home from Chap's because they can smell it. My parents also buy their dog food and bird seed from Chap's. I have never met an unfriendly employee here. They're always willing to help. Thanks, guys! read more

Huge storage area with a small viewing section tucked away. Young salesman greeted me in the parking lot while carrying out an order for another customer. Walked me in the side door and immediately asked if I needed assistance. Was looking to try a new brand of healthy, grain free dog food for our German Shepard. He told me what was recommended, what was on sale, what he fed his own dog and then carried out my large bag of dog food to my car and thanked me for my order. Will definitely be back. read more

Unlike the national chain stores, you can talk with anyone at Chap's Feed Store and they know about the products they carry. Been going to Chaps for over 10 years.There very friendly and no matter how busy they are you can get what you want and get out fast ! They always have what I need for my dog from food to toys.I just switched to Orijen Red dog food which is a very high quality dog food.They had it with a deal of buying 12 and getting the 13 FREE !I thought that was a good deal . This place has almost everything possible for your pet and if they don't have it they will order it for you .There close to home reasonably priced and have GREAT HOURS !!! I had to call a few times to check if they had gotten any feed hay in, and the guys I spoke with on the phone weren't the friendliest, but once you are in the store, everyone is extremely pleasant and helpful. It's a bit of a drive for me, but well worth it for the savings and support of a family business. If you have pet rabbits and are paying out the ear for Timothy hay from a pet store, come to Chap's! I got a whole bale for $5 and the rabbits seem to love it. read more
