Dinner on a Monday (5pm) is completely dead which is not reassuring. It's very spacious, and probably hopping on the weekends; they have an axe throwing area in the back. The card system for drinks is very confusing and not the best method. It's like Dave and busters where they put your credit card on their own card and charge it for drinks and food at the end. Never seen a self serve bar before but it's interesting. Some of the drinks are not the best, so don't fill your cup to the brim. I recommend taste testing what you want so you don't have to pay per ounce if you get a big cup. Food is good- we had their fish sandwiches. But don't order the mushy peas unless you have the appetite of a baby. The server tried to hype them up, but they were exactly as they sounded- tasteless and mashed. Primarily a takeout place, there are simple plastic tables and chairs for eating there. What makes it is the food. I had haddock that was thick and flaky well battered and fried to perfection. Chips (fries for the uninitiated) were crispy exterior with soft pillowy interior; just the way they should be but seldom are. This is a place that needs much TLC, in other words it's a dive. If you overlook the dirty table that we had to clean up and the faded decor then there's some hope. You order at the counter and then they deliver it to you. Hubby got a huge piece of Haddock with fresh fries. The fish was fresh as it was flaky. I tasted a bite and agreed that he won. Main point-Solid food location for fried fish. Don't let the location deter you the food is good. The Pub sauce is a nice switch up as a dipping sauce for the chips. The chicken tenders were a hit with the kids-crispy batter and juicy chicken. You order at the counter and your food is brought to you. The young man was polite and efficient. Late one evening while driving through Yorktown, we came upon The Chipper and decided to stop in for some fish & chips. Bright and spacious, the friendly staff took our order. They have three different kinds of fish & chips: cod, haddock or flounder, and we decided to go with the cod and haddock. Out came a huge portion of fried fish atop a bed of fries (chips) and a ramekin of mayonnaise. The fish was perfectly cooked, the breading a little thick but still tasty. The cod was meatier but the haddock was more flavorful. But either way, definitely worth it. After the fish, there wasn't much room for the chips! As good as any fish & chips I ever had. This review is a little bit late as life as life has taken over my small business appreciation. I have passed this place a gazillion times and never stopped. Today I did. The food is fabulous. Fish and chips are just right with generous portions. The menu is extensive. Too much really. They can just do fish and chips and call it good. The 4 stars is because the interior needs help. Sophia and I last stopped by here almost 4 years ago and liked our meal. So we decided to stay on this side of the water on a recent Saturday afternoon and head back here for some lunch. We were the only table seated so service was pretty quick. Basically, you go up to the counter and order your meal. There are only a few tables available but with foot traffic mostly minimal due to takeout service, you should have no problem with dine-in. For apps, we had fried pickles and my main course was fish and chips with flounder as the choice of seafood. I will admit that I wasn't a big fan of the fried pickles. I like mine more of a light coating, even though they were seasoned. But Sophia enjoyed them so I won't knock them for that. Different strokes, different folks. However, the main course was pretty good. Great breading for the fish and plenty of fries in the basket. Some were fried a little too much, but it was fine for me. Not a bad lunch if I say so myself. We have driven by Chippers many times on the way to Bubba's Seafood down the street. But after seeing Chipper's positive reviews,we decided to try them out Very loud raucus music met us as we walked in the door which the waiter actually had to turn down to hear our order. I ordered the fish and chips. My wife ordered the fried shrimp. Their only drink options are bottled sodas and tea, at almost $3 each! When the food came out, I found the fish to be a bit mushy rather than flakey. The breading fell off much of the shrimp. Not all of the shrimp was deveined and at least one had an odd taste which was really concerning. Their slaw was terrible. Neither my wife or I could eat it. My fiancé and I got the chance to sit down and dine at this place after a whole night of drinking. It was a great cure for my hangover. Great fish and chips and extremely tasty curry sauce (the fish tastes good dipped in it as well). Our order was rung up by a nice staff member who advised us not get additional curry chips on top of our fish and chips meal because it would be too many chips for a bigger additional charge. He instead offered up just getting the curry sauce to accompany our meal at a lower cost. I think others would have taken advantage of that opportunity to profit off of naïve customers, so we truly appreciated him for not letting us blindly order from the menu and keeping it fair! So this was a place I've passed for years and been wanting to try and finally got to. When you pull into the parking lot, the outside is a little worn down and when you walk in the floors were so sticky you could hear me walking around the whole place. So the cleanliness of the tables also look like they aren't wiped down regularly. Despite this, we had two hungry kids and I still want to take a chance at it. I would have to say out of the three meals, the flounder Sammy was probably the best as my son thoroughly enjoyed it all. I had high hopes for this place but I'll defer indefinitely. Lived in the UK for 3 years and wanted to try how comparable their fish and chips to the authentic one. We ordered the cod and flounder meals. There was one customer ahead of us and we waited for 25 minutes. Another couple came in and 10 minutes later got their food. The guy in front of us and I looked at each other bewildered. I ask the lady at the counter if the service is first come, first serve as we have been waiting for quite awhile. No apologies whatsoever from the staff so I asked for a refund. This is a good example of doing bad business and zero customer service. I hope the owner of this establishment address this issue. The gentleman in front of us finally got his food while I was getting my refund so I asked the gentleman if the cod was good, he replied with so-so. My mouth is still watering an hour after finishing our meal, just writing this review. We placed an online order on a Wednesday afternoon. The online system is great, though they do offer curbside pickup with call in orders as well. Our food was ready within 15 minutes of ordering. We ordered the Haddock fish & chips, onion rings, and a side of remoulade. The beer batter on the Haddock was what my fish and chips dreams are made of. So crunchy but also nice and fluffy on the topside of the fish. From what I gather the fries are "proper English chips" and I'm a big fan. Thick cut, but with a nice crisp on the outside. The onion rings were also nice and crispy but with that melt-in-your-mouth batter, with a nicely cooked onion inside that doesn't slide entirely out when you take a bite. Definitely recommend dunking these in the remoulade! This place single handedly makes me a little sad we live on the other side of the bridge tunnel, but man is it worth the trip. I see a lot of reviews complaining about the price, but you'd be hard pressed to find fish and chips of this quality AND quantity for this cheap nearly anywhere else.
