Everything I have tried is delicious. It's a unique place and somewhere you can be comfortable. I did not see a sign that said wifi, but it would make a great study spot. The hours are confusing. Different sources say different times which has made it hard to try. However, the door sign says 10-6 daily. Menu did not indicate breakfast, but their website says otherwise. I believe they may need some updating. Until then, you can definitely rely on quality chocolate and coffee! read more

I stopped here after a bad experience at another coffee shop in Townsend. I was warmly greeted in a cute shop full of beautiful chocolates, house made cookies and coffee with reasonable prices. I ordered a regular coffee ($1.79 for 12 ounces), three mini milk chocolate caramels, another chocolate and the most delicious cranberry white chocolate cookie. The staff were friendly and attentive. Such a cute little shop to stop for the whole family. Do yourself a favor and get a fresh espresso or latte to go with your chocolate. They've got great little toys and ice cream for the kids. I was able to get great cell service and work for a few minutes on my laptop outside on their deck. If you have to use the bathroom, don't be shy with the door. They don't serve breakfast! Their website and the photos on Yelp say there is breakfast to be had but they no longer offer that option. So we started off disappointed with our stop but we didn't leave so. I had a caramel latte which was outstanding. Wife picked up some dark chocolate covered caramels and I a couple buckeyes. She's a bit of a connoisseur of her choice and she was impressed. I've had better buckeyes. The milk chocolate was great. Creamy and smooth. The peanut butter, not so much. It lacked a richness I've had in good buckeyes as well. They're not bad. I mean peanut butter and chocolate CAN'T be bad, right. Just not nearly as good as they can be. Staff was friendly and they make a great show of retrieving your choices from the display case on a silver tray. I'd definitely return to sample more of their offers if time allows on this trip. read more

So cute! I was suspicious from the look of the outside and the fact that they share the building with a Subway, but it's incredibly quaint but spacious inside. The fella and I stopped here on a Sunday after breakfast and got two red eyes (they have a great menu of coffee/espresso options) along with a few sweet treats for later. There are tons of tables and everyone was following Covid protocols. We got a key lime square, Nutella cake slice, and chocolate-covered pretzel, and they had just about anything for a sweet tooth - ice cream, fudge, cake slices, truffles, cookies, scones, etc. Just a note that they charge an extra 4% for credit card purchases. read more

Me and my family came here after a walk because it sounded really good. There were SO many options! It's not friendly with nut allergies, since there are lots of nut options, but the worker getting us our food told us that in the future there would be a place where nut-free products specifically can be made. I chose to have a piece of chocolate cake. It tasted amazing! They have cakes, fudge, ice cream, as well as different little chocolates. When we vacationed in the area, I tried the chocolates (English toffee and various creams and truffles) here and thought they were just ok. But the Coconut Snack Cake was amazing, so I went back. I bought some chocolates for a family member back home, who said they were fantastic. So when I moved to the area, I tried again. I have to say that the dark chocolate covered cherries are excellent, and so is the fudge. Try the Italian Cream Cake, too! The only negative experience I've had here is when I went in the winter and found the place closed, even though they were supposed to be open for another 15 minutes. I suppose it's not such a bad thing because I didn't need the calories, but I was disappointed. I want to support local businesses in the off-season, but incidents like this aren't encouraging. If someone has to leave early, at least stick an apologetic note on the door. read more

We just stopped in to get some chocolate and i am so glad we did. the young man behind the counter was very friendly with a funny sense of humor. he was helpful and when we were done, we said we were going to go grab a bite to eat. he helpfully suggested The Abby next door. so we went there too. both places are excellent. the burger at the Abby is EXCELLENT. Oh my, both were excellent but the Italian Creme cake blew my socks off!!! Talk about a candy & bakery store on steroids! The Chocolate Ba'r is it. Well worth the visit when you are in town. This is a 16-acre park with many old historical buildings and homes of early Bakersfield. Great place to go on a nice spring day. I have never seen this place crowded yet. They also have a natural science museum right on the grounds. I loved this place as a kid and still do. read more

I have stopped here several times since they opened in February of 2011. The chocolate is beyond yummy. The truffles are so diverse. The pastries are divine. So why not 5 stars? I have stopped before when the sign on the door said they were open, but they were closed. This spring I stopped with 2 other ladies, there were 2 ladies going in ahead of us, and all 5 of us were told they were closing and we were herded out the door. I usually spend about $30 when I stop. With 5 ladies wanting chocolate, to not serve us was a loss of sales and down right dangerous! read more

A non-profit organization that restores Kern County history and allows you to see how people lived throughout the years...of course they get five stars! A nice place to go and walk around. They also have a kid center which my kids love to play at. I like their special events as well. The lamplighter tour is a great holiday tradition during Christmas. Today I got back from a five day trip to the Smoky Mountains for my 30th birthday. It was an incredible time! Not only was it exceptionally beautiful and I got to see a lot, there was also tons of wildlife (I saw my first bear!). But the two biggest highlights of this 4 state road trip (Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina) was discovering my new favorite town (Townsend, Tennessee) and my favorite dessert in Tennessee. Townsend dubs itself "the peaceful side of the Smokies," and is situated near one of the main entrances of the National Park. With under 300 residents, it definitely possesses a quaint character with mountain-town charm, all set against undeveloped lush greenery and breathtaking mountains. I've traveled extensively throughout Tennessee (and the nearby Gatlinburg), and Townsend is certainly the best place to visit if you want to avoid tourist traps and absorb the rich local culture instead. You won't find many souvenir shops in Townsend, but lots of local art and crafts. Restaurants serve up Southern fare made from scratch. You can even indulge in deep fried pies, Tennessee jams/syrups/honey, and Southern taffy. Needless to say, I was in paradise. After a long rainy hike around Cades Cove (which is highly recommended, should you visit), my husband and I were hankering a hot chocolate and happened upon a little shop tucked right off the main road called The Chocolate Bar. When we walked into the wooden cabin-like building, we were immediately taken aback by how large the inside was. There's an entire section that looked like a living room with couches and a coffee table, another side with wooden tables full of women quilting, and a few gift tables with local crafts and art. As we approached the massive display cases of desserts and the espresso bar, I was immediately struck by the huge glass jars of chocolate malt balls and candies behind the counter. It reminded me of an old-time candy shop. To my left was a separate case full of appetizing pastries and cakes. In the middle area were dozens of truffles with unique flavors. And, to my right was the pièce de résistance--homemade fudge. Our cashier was overzealous to assist us, offering us free samples and suggestions for dinner spots and local attractions. She delighted in hearing where we were from and what we had already done in the park but always returned her attention to their fudge. I am a fudge enthusiast, and in my experience homemade small town fudge is always a treat. We first sampled their Irish Crème fudge, which was delicious, but a little too sweet for my taste. Then came their Peanut Butter Fudge, which was just as delicious, but I'm not that big of a peanut butter fan in general. I pored over the other flavors, which were all unique and looked amazing, but nothing really struck my fancy except the plain chocolate fudge. Our cashier cut us off a thick slab of the fudge and wrapped it up nicely in a little red box. After enjoying our Mexican Hot Chocolate from The Chocolate Bar, we headed back to our cabin, finally opening the fudge box several hours later on our porch overlooking the Smokies. At first taste, I noticed the extreme creaminess, then the rich chocolate flavor set in. My husband and I communicated our sentiments with a series of "Ummmm's" and "awwwww's." This fudge was divine! I delighted seeing my indented tooth impressions after each bite. In most of my fudge experiences, the chocolate burns my throat. Call it cheap chocolate or artificial preservatives, but it's always been something I've been sensitive too. But this fudge was burn free! The overall taste was pure ecstasy, the shop and our cashier authentic and friendly, and it was all set in one of the most beautiful towns I've ever visited. I've had many close contenders for the best dessert in Tennessee, but The Chocolate Bar's homemade chocolate fudge certainly takes the prize. My Recommendation: Chocolate Fudge read more

This place is like Wonka's Chocolate factory! I'm sorry that we just discovered it on our way out of town. They make 90% of their goodies in-store, and everything looks amazing. They have counters full of fudge, chocolate-covered everything, beautiful truffles, and other candies. They also serve breakfast, pastries, coffee, soft-serve, smoothies, beer, etc. We tried the pecan turtles, a truffle, and a caramel apple. The caramel apple (covered with swirls of dark and white chocolate) was RIDICULOUS. I usually get a caramel apple as a treat on special occasions, and this was far and away the best that either of us had ever tried. The apple was so tart and juicy, which was perfect with the caramel. My husband wanted "one bite" which turned into eating half of it. We will definitely be back to satisfy our sweet tooth every time we pass through Townsend. read more

This place is great! They are an actual chocolatier and cafe. Everything is beautiful. I had some of their chocolates and a brownie because it was just too hot for coffee. There was no one there even though the crappy Subway next door was packed! I guess their location is holding them back? I will definitely come back before I leave town.
