There are not as many places/street corners that sell Christmas trees like they used to; they used to be all over. That being said, I googled places in Philadelphia that sold trees and came upon The Christmas Tree Stand as an option. It was 1 of 3 options listed without having to drive around searching or driving too far. The space where they are on Front street is a small space compared to other tree selling places I've been to in the past. However, they had a nice selection. My only concern was that their prices were considerably high compared to what I am used to. I have never paid $150 plus tax for an 8' tree. And I have been buying them for years to compliment our tall ceilings. I asked about delivery and that was an addl $199. Wow! So I took my tree with me. As I was too lazy to drive to another part of town 30 minutes away to see if they had just as good or better trees for a lesser price, I went ahead and purchased a tree. She is really beautiful, but overly priced for what I am used to from other places that are just as good. There was only one person working and he was really kind and helpful. So, they do have good customer service. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be returning there next year unless I can't find what I want elsewhere. read more

Perfect service if you're car-less, in an apartment, live in the city! My husband and I don't have a car to haul a tree home, we also live on the 2nd story of a row home - we didn't have a tree last year for these reasons and we were both bummed about it. I think it can look a bit pricey when compared to picking out your own tree, but the price is warranted as they are delivering and setting up the tree for you - and it's obvious that they groom the tree prior to delivery for a perfect shape. They also cut the stump right in front of your home so it is as fresh as can be. Mike was so friendly and helpful, carrying it up the stairs for us and giving us tips on watering it for prime freshness. Mike's Christmas Tree Stand is a Godsend! Their trees are not only splendid looking, but also have that nostalgic Christmasy smell that evokes all your beautiful childhood memories. We have been ordering trees from them ever since we moved to Philadelphia. We used to live close to their Love Park (15th and JFK) pop up stand, but thankfully they opened a new Race Street/Spruce Harbor park location closer to us. They sell some relatively short, under $100 trees that easily fit into a typical city condo. However if you have a higher budget (and ceiling!) like we do, I'd really recommend one of their majestic taller trees. Scheduling is super easy. If you're running short on time, I believe they have a website for online orders. Otherwise just walk into the nearest location, pick your tree, add on some hand-crafted ornaments. I enjoy stopping by in person to pick our family tree, then we buy gifts, candied pecans, and mulled wine from nearby shops. So you can easily make a day out of your tree purchase. (Hint: Bring along kids and make it a fun holiday tradition!) As the other reviewers mention, the staff will serve you with a smile as big as their trees! They will paint, cut, decorate, or otherwise customize your tree any way you like. When the season is over, they will get rid of the tree for a very reasonable fee. Doesn't get more "full service" than this! Buying from this stand spares me from having to worry about bad odors, nearly wilted trees, or prickly needles that fall off quickly. Super easy to use the online ordering form to select the type and size of tree we wanted. They have a location at Christmas Village in Philly, but we opted to just order on-line and have it delivered. Delivery was also very easy with a reasonable 4hr window. If you don't know trees, there are good descriptions of the types. We ordered a Fraser Fir which we think has the nicest needles and is most fragrant. The driver was very pleasant and she gave the tree a little extra trim around the base, even though it was fresh cut. We elected to set up the tree as we have a really great tree stand and it was up and straight within 15 minutes. We watered it and let it sit for a couple hours, then put on the lights and decorations. Felt like the easiest tree set up ever... even the lights! The tree looks and smells amazing. Not sure what is wrong with this company, I had a HORRIBLE experience with them and their customer service. Please read the fine print on their website with extreme detail before working with them. I dealt with them via the phone, not the website, and there was a disgusting amount of miscommunication based on things that were "clearly stated on the website" (which I never visited) (and was never informed of) I called this company looking for delivery of a 10-11' tree to downtown Philadelphia. Had a nice initial conversation with a woman and told her what I was looking for (tree delivery and setup in an apartment). The woman I spoke with was the owner of (or was at least leading) the company. She sent tree pricing over, and quoted me $79 via phone for a christmas tree delivery to downtown. I went to their West Chester location and picked my tree out, a 10'11" tree for $179. So I'm thinking, okay, around $258 + tax for tree, delivery, and setup. Then the guy who is holding my tree informs me that they won't set a tree up with an existing christmas tree stand, you have to buy a stand through them. Wait, what? So I call the owner again, and she confirms that you have to buy a stand through them if you want the tree setup, and it is an additional $85. There's no option to pay them to set it up with your existing tree stand - they only set up trees in their stands. Not sure why she didn't tell me that from the get-go. So now I'm looking at $343 + tax for tree, delivery, and setup. Then I find out that tree delivery is actually $100, not $79 like I was quoted! So now my total for tree, delivery, and setup would be $364 + tax. I decide to schedule delivery only for $279 and plan to let them know the day before the delivery if I want a new stand for $85 or not. Then the night before my scheduled delivery, while being pressured by owner via text to make a decision, she tells me it's actually an additional $100 for the stand and setup, on top of the $100 delivery fee I have already paid. Aka, $379 for tree, delivery, stand, and setup. I felt so baited and switched - the whole thing was extremely frustrating and confusing. I tell her that I will set the tree up myself, in my own stand, and to just have the guys deliver it. Come to find out that my $100 delivery fee only covers "front door delivery only." Which was "clearly stated on their website" (which I never visited, except to pay online). After all that back and forth communication, they wouldn't even carry the tree up to my apartment because they "couldn't find parking on my street". Just left in my apartment lobby. Would never recommend, renting a truck from Home Depot would have been a lot less of a headache. read more

Mike and Katie were very pleasant and accommodating to work with. I bought and scheduled the delivery (+ set-up) of my tree from the comfort of my living room within minutes. They are very organized and sent me text and email reminders leading up to the delivery. Katie was super accommodating for when I requested a larger tree a few days before delivery. First off, I must say that I am completely obsessed with Christmas, so having the perfect Christmas tree is paramount. Boy, did the Christmas Tree Stand deliver (pun intended)! Usually, my family makes a trip to cut down our own tree, but after hearing from a friend that the farms were totally picked over, we decided to try TCTS out. Not only was ordering our tree simple (the descriptions of the different varieties was so helpful!), they even delivered to us all the way out in Villanova. The gentleman who delivered our tree was quick - he re-cut the bottom of the tree, set it up in the stand and filled it with water while my toddler continuously tried to get in the way. He even brought a broom and pan and swept up any needles that fell in my house! The most important part is that the tree was gorgeous!! Symmetrical with no thin spots and a fabulous smell. Four weeks later, it still isn't dropping needles (even when my toddler tugs on it)! I actually feel guilty taking it down, it's so beautiful!!
