It used to be such a special store. They had a little bit of everything. Once Susan and Chris left the place went to crap. Horrible customer service. The little red head manager is incredibly rude. Stopped by for several years after the others were gone. Make sure you stop in Steamboat to stock up because they don't sell groceries just souvenirs. read more

We stopped here based on the Yelp reviews. How this place gets great reviews is a mystery to me. I ordered a prime rib sandwich which was filled with more fat than meat. It came with a side. I selected the potato salad as my side. It was tasteless. I mean literally completely tasteless. Probably the worst potato salad I have ever had. Not a place I would recommend. It doesn't have a lot of selection, but the prices are good considering that it's pretty out there. Normally, the prices will be very high, but they have it under control. The staff was helpful and moved the line right along. The store parking lot is quite large, so there isn't a parking problem and the bathrooms are kept clean. Quaint store in Clark, CO. We stopped on our way to Pearl Lake state park to see if we could get some sandwiches. They are strict on their covid policies and have masks right inside the door if you forget yours (for a buck). Ordered a few sandwiches and some soups and waited a very long time to get them. Despite the number of kids working in the food area, It appears they have a tough time deciding who is doing what. Anyway, sandwiches were fine, although there is definitely a "premium" on the pricing for being one of the only places to get food out that way. read more

Otherwise than that the only thing that i have to say about this business is that it is a good place in the middle of nowhere if you are looking for some supplies or and warm meal. I'd pass it by. There are other options up by the lake with much friendlier service. Rude staff and long lines. I waited in line for 20 min to get a fishing license. Got to the front, the guy there then had me wait so he could go get change to restock the drawers. No problem at all. When I asked for the fishing license I was told that I would have to wait until he helped everyone else. When I said that I had already waited in line for the right to purchase my fishing license, he said to go up to the visitor center. because they don't make money off of fishing licenses. Dude, not the point. I get 3 days off the entire freaking summer, and you can't take 5 minutes to sell me a fishing license? I have to drive all the way back up to the lake to get it, which doesn't seem like much, 10 min up, 10 min back. But add the 20 min in line, 5 min requesting the license and getting told to wait another amount of time. Then the fact that I drove 10 min to get there. I know it's not your vacation man, but it was mine. I won't be a patron at the good ol clark store ever again. read more

I love this place. There isn't much (read: nothing) in this area, so you'd think access would constitute the highest factor in the review. But not so much; this place is delicious, and they have a diverse selection of goods that are surprising. When I'm up in Clark, it's usually for early morning photography in the surrounding wilderness. They open right about when I come down, so I make sure to take advantage of their breakfast sandwiches. Breakfasts are hearty and deeply satisfying. Lunches are delicious, and everything felt hand-crafted and rejuvenating. Finally, they sell alcohol and have a wide range of spirits, beers, and wine. I was pleasantly surprised when my boyfriend and I decided to have lunch at the Clark Store this weekend. We were staying at a friend's home in Clark and we needed some food without having to go too far. My boyfriend and I split two sandwiches, the pastrami and the caprese (with bacon added). We also got cups of the beef chuck chili. All of the food was delicious; my favorite sandwich was the pastrami. The homemade beef chuck chili was great. We sat in a booth that overlooked the mountains, which added to the experience. We also purchased a few items, like a camping cutlery kit and postcards. Unfortunately, a few things are a bit expensive in the store, but that's what you can expect from a town store out in the country. They have a liquor store with a decent selection, various groceries, a post office, and a mini-library. We will definitely return next time we are in Clark for some yummy sandwiches! read more

I've been shopping at the Clark store off and on every summer for the last 35 years. I called over today with a simple question and was treated very rudely by Chris. I was friendly and polite and he was the complete opposite. He actually hung up on me about 15-30 seconds into our conversation when I asked a question for clarification. I know that up here good help is hard to find, but I've rarely if ever encountered such poor customer service anywhere. I'll consider changing my review when Chris no longer works there. Update: I discussed the situation with the manager and I am satisfied with his responsiveness. Will increase rating to 4-star based on manager response and prior overall good experience with The Clark Store. read more

The Clark store is a throwback to old times when the store sold sundries, is a eatery, and a post office. The service is not overly friendly but they become friendly when you ask them questions and interact with them. We ordered burgers there cooked medium and they were really tasty. This store is the town of Clark. If you are traveling through the area, you need to stop by The Clark Store just to experience. It has all the essentials wrapped up into one location. You have the grocery store, the restaurant, the liquor store, the post office, the coffee shop and the ice cream parlor all in one. The grocery store and the liquor store have different cash registers, but the same person runs them, it is true country living. We stopped to get something to drink and an ice cream. The ice cream is out on the back porch with chairs and tables to sit at. I got the huckleberry ice cream which was enjoyable and a good chance to sit down and just relax. read more

When: July 4, 2014 This place is almost always packed, however my family and I made it in right before the mad rush of people made it to the outskirts of town where we were. First we stopped off and had some ice cream. LOVELY. We all got something different. Chocolate/coffee/huckleberry/black cherry vanilla. I wish I could be some help as to what would be the best for you to get. I can't, they were all amazing. When you go, slip down the stairs and sit beneath the shade of the trees to the picnic tables. It's a beautiful way to enjoy a summer afternoon! Then we went into the store for some quick shopping. They had everything we needed cinnamon rolls, bacon, eggs, bread, hot dogs and buns, chips, etc. We stocked up our shelves for the upcoming weekend and had a great conversation with the man at the register. As The Clark Store has always been about its role in the community and served as an outpost for the tired traveler or dehydrated biker, not The Wild Ones kind, but those pedel jockeys who like locas swarm the county roads from spring to fall. My family have taken me to The Clark Store since 1982. I've always loved the local charm and delicious ice cream. My husband and I ventured there today on our staycation in beautiful Steamboat and were rudely and aggressively approached by the proprietor or owner who forced my husband to leave because he did not have a mask. We were not aware of the local regulations in Routt county and would never intentionally offend or disrupt a place of business. There are also no signs anywhere on the premises stating that masks are required - rules and laws are so different from county to county, we truly had no idea, as this is not the case in our huge Denver suburb. The way we were treated and spoken to, however, was so rude and aggressive, I now refuse to return or support this business in any way. It's a shame. There is a way to manage sticky situations and certainly a much kinder way to speak to customers who are, quite literally, keeping your business alive. We left, having purchased nothing. A piece of my childhood was destroyed today, thanks to this interaction. Truly disturbing. read more

I LOVE the Clark Store and could tell you the obvious points but will touch a few things that add to the experience: 1. Buy a lunch or breakfast and it's served hot on real dishes, not plastic, with metal knives, forks and spoons. 2. The entire staff is very pleasant and well worth whatever you're buying just to get treated like something more than just a customer -- a friend perhaps? 3. Most days you will find a table to sit at, which is very nice after a long hike. Now to the obvious, the food is very good and not your average cheap offerings designed to maximize profits. The Meatloaf sandwich is to die for. This store has anything you could need. Hot, cold or any type of food you could want, camping gear, fishing gear, personal care, trinkets. The Clark store has such a friendly, happy, helping energy, right when you walk in. The Clark store even made my wife and I's wedding pies. Everybody loved all the different flavors, they were very tasty. They took perfect care of us, even for having 150+ people they still took on the job! We couldn't have asked for more. The Clark Store is awesome! I've stopped by several times over the last few years and it has definitely improved A LOT. The breakfast selection is great and affordable for some really quality food. The bacon is amazing, as is the granola that comes with the yogurt, fruit and granola. Yum! Sandwiches are equally delicious and really filling - I've had the turkey, club, and veggie panini. All were amazing, and this is coming from a city girl surrounded by incredible delis and restaurants. They also have some great Colorado souvenirs and a nice little selection of outdoor gear, which was really impressive given that it's a bit out in the middle of nowhere. Great store! This is also a post office where all the locals have their PO boxes, so you are sure to bump into people knowledgeable about the local area. There is also a beautiful pot bellied stove in the corner of the post office area. Lots of books & magazines available on a take one leave one basis. There is also a liquor store and grocery area. What a find. We stopped here at the suggestion of a forest ranger, for takeaway lunch sandwiches -- boy, was she on-target! The deli menu looks very standard but all three sandwiches we tried (turkey bacon wrap, Italian and Reuben) were top-notch tasty. The potato salad was some of the best I've ever had. Store stocks a wide variety of drinks and a hodgepodge of household and hiking/camping supplies, as well as a liquor store, US post office and the Clark library. this is a cool place and the only in town...unfortunately we stopped there this past weekend while camping in the area to find they charge $5.00+ for a 10 lb. bag of ice...a bag of ice and a 20 oz bottle of Diet Pepsi cost us $7.50...when asked if this was correct the response was "yes you aren't just paying for the ice, you are paying for the gas to get it here"...meanwhile 20 miles away in Steamboat Springs you can pay a normal price for a bag of ice...don't insult my intelligence, you are gouging tourists...and in this case Colorado residents...pretty weak... read more
