Stopped in today to have about 6 knives sharpened. Service was incredible! Knives were done in about 20 minutes, price was super reasonable and everyone was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Brought the knives home to test ''em out cuz we thought the price and speed were too good to be true and the edges were super sharp and there were no nicks - they did an awesome job!!! A friendly greeting was given upon entering by the staff and you know service is key. While I don't shop here often, I do love to browse and check them out. This visit I was looking for a doughnut cutter, and without any hesitation the staff took me right to it and others. But we noticed at the entrance, a list of the top 5 items they sell, which include the Frogmore Shrimp Cleaner, and boom - where is it?? Now I am buying that too. Besides kitchen items (cookware, tableware, linens, etc) there is a large grilling section, a local coffee available to grind and bag, and seasonal decor items (unique oyster Christmas ornaments). After 4 years of owning a large Big Green Egg it's somewhat embarrassing to admit that we've only used it 4 times. Sure, we read the guides and viewed the well designed tutorials, but for some reason, the intent and execution just wasn't connecting ... the finished product did not look like the pictures or deliver on the deliciousness we expected. Now, in a rut with my at-home dinner menus, I realized that our BGE could provide the relief I was seeking. But, how was I going to get from a bag of charcoal to a restaurant caliber steak? Enter Coastal Cupboard! Three weeks ago I noticed a series of BGE classes advertised in a Sunday edition of the Post and Courier, one of which, BGE 101, was free ... so I figured I had nothing to lose except my pride ... and signed up. There were about 15 people in the class with different levels of experience and the facilitator, Bob Hack, was a terrific instructor. I watched, listened, took notes and was sure I had all the information I needed to raise the steaks (pun intended). Last night was my night to shine (as my hub wanted no part in what he thought would be another disaster). We got the fire going ... the temp gauge was rising ... I adjusted the 'top draft damper ', the 'daisy wheel' and the 'bottom draft screen' but once it hit 400 degrees, the temp started to fall. In a panic (I'm rather high strung), I called Coastal Cupboard and was fortunate to get Brad, a BGE expert on the phone. He was patient, calming and walked me through what I needed to do to make it work ... and work, it did ...our steaks looked beautiful and din din was every bit as delicious as I had hoped. Brad called me at 6:00 to check and again this morning. That's customer service par excellence in my book! I'm not sure what I did or didn't do, but it doesn't matter now ... I've joined the ranks of the Lowcountry Eggheads and ... I've signed up for more classes. Bring it on! read more

They have helped from gift purchases for my wife, moving my BIg Green Egg (twice), Egg accessories, to selecting an awesome coffee maker...Jura BTW makes an awesome cup and Brent helped us pick the perfect one. My friends surprised me here for my bday with a private 4-entree meal by the talented and interactive chef!! I had always wanted to check this store out and sure enough, it was filled with different gadgets like I imagined. The owner is also very generous and friendly. I got the metaltex veggie chopper bc I don't like cutting onions and my hubby and I LOVE it!! It's so easy to use and makes prepping so much quicker!! (3.5 stars) Came here for a cooking class with my boyfriend. It was "Holiday Beer and Christmas Cheer." We got to sample some truly delicious food. My one disappointment is that after being at cooking classes at Charleston Cooks and Southern Season, this one seemed a little disorganized and hectic, like nobody really knew what they were doing, which was a little stressful to watch. I get that a lot of people are volunteers, but it just felt very disjointed. The food we tried was really yummy and the tips from the chef were really helpful. We sampled short rib crepes, with plum sauce, a warm root vegetable salad, steak with kale and farro, and homemade ice cream for dessert. It was very delicious and lots of fun. They fixed the bottom of my Big Green Egg within 24 hours the request, after another company had 50 days and failed to do it. While at my house they noticed the fire box was cracked and replaced it too. They did all of this for a $40 fee. This should tell you that a store with the word "cupboard" in its name would be the farthest thing from where I want to shop. Not Coastal Cupboard however. I adore this store. It's got everything you could ever need to be a maven in the kitchen: amazing cookbooks, platters, off beat utensils & server ware, etc. It's a tiny store but you could be in there for an hour browsing everything they have to offer. They've got all sorts of tools, gadgets, gourmet food products, and gifts. I could spend hours just poking around looking at all the fun kitchen toys. Aside from being a store, The Coastal Cupboard offers cooking classes taught by Chef Stephen Harman. Great products and high quality. The price is a little higher than you would expect to pay but they have unique items that you could definitely find elsewhere but not in the same place. We were really hoping to like this place but the customer service completely ruined it for us. So much so that we just turned around and walked out when the 4-5 staff members at the front desk (about 5 feet from the front door) couldn't make the effort to acknowledge us. I used to own a store next door to these guys and I could see first hand they've earned a super loyal customer base. Selection, knowledge and customer care are hard at work here. I bought a different Kamado type grill than the BGE they sell but quickly discovered CC is the premier destination for all things grilling in Charleston. They have the largest and best selection of BBQ rubs and injections and are directly connected with each brand. This means I can look forward to attending trunk shows from my favorites brands and meat (ha!) them in person. Highly recommended CC as a one stop shop for all things BGE and Kamado! read more

I've been a patron of CC since they were W Ashley on Hwy 61 and have always loved the local, knowledgeable vibe. Historically enjoyed the treasure hunt and always find something I didn't know I needed. Today, buying many small Christmas presents and had a blast. Was approached many times on the sales floor and offered help but didn't need it. Perfect. Found everything I wanted and had a great experience until.... Checkout. An uncharacteristically indifferent person accompanied by a man who I think realized things were weird . The cashier actually tossed my $180 receipt on the counter while the man bagged my purchases. I've never had that kind of experience at CC, but I'll be back. Everyone has a bad day. But I truly don't understand the indifferent belligerence of the cashier. I love this Kitchen Store. They have a huge selection of the finest gear for those of us who love to cook. They have such a broad range of products from Gift Basket's made up to your specifications, to knife sharpening. Actually that's why I went the other day. They did a super job with my knives, however I was a little dollar shocked at the price they charged. $30.00 for about six knives. Apparently this is the only store in Mount Pleasant that offers knife sharpening services. I learned that they offer this service complimentary twice per year. So next time I will know to wait. The staff here are so friendly and helpful. Nothing a bother to them. They have great gift ideas and I seem to remember they provide Wedding & Gift Registries. So next time you are in Belle Hall, definitely stop in and be prepared to spend over an hour here browsing. Great if you need a gift locally and don't have time to shop online. Just went to buy a Cuisinart Cookware set which I knew was going to be $50 more than on Amazon. Got there expecting to pay a premium only to find That they raise the price another $50. There is a beautiful array of kitchen wares and table setting decor to be found here. They also hold cooking classes and have gourmet chocolates in cases at the register. This is a cook/foodie or kitchen gadget junkie's heaven. They are on the expensive side, but if you're looking for specialty items to bake with, obscure gadgets or a gorgeous wedding gift, you've found the place. There are things I've never dreamed of needing! I really like this store, but they don't stay open very late and I almost always miss the opportunity to catch them when they ARE open.
