I'll be…read morehonest--I wasn't initially on board with homeschooling, and it was hard for me to wrap my brain around taking this path. But I am SO thankful we did. Our son has gained so much confidence, and it has been amazing to watch his personal growth. Even more importantly, his health has improved in his time here. He was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood epilepsy, and in the short time he has been at I Can Academy, we have seen his seizure activity cut in half. I believe this is due to a few factors including the positive environment and less stress. We are incredibly grateful for the support, understanding, and positive environment he has received. The teachers are amazing. A few of them are teachers my children have had in the past which made for an easy transition for my son. I hope our experience helps another mom who may be on the fence about homeschooling, just like I was, because for our family, the benefits have by far outweighed any of the negative ideas I had in my head.

The office staff was so warm and welcoming, and our daughter loved picking out her supplies to create her own I Can Academy bag. Her teacher was incredibly kind and created such a positive, engaging learning atmosphere. During the class, I even heard my daughter shout, "I can read!" When it ended, she was smiling and excited to bring home new flash cards to practice blending sounds. A few days later, she had an assessment at a private school for kindergarten, which included sounding out letters and blending them. She did so well--and I couldn't believe how quickly the lessons from the academy had already made an impact. This is absolutely the place to go if you want a warm, child-first learning experience. Mrs Rad is so kind and flexible. Beyond alphabets also offers local after school pickup for only $500 a month. They offer tutoring and more. My almost 7yo is already begging me to host her 7th bday party at beyond alphabets to sculpt and use the pottery wheel. What a special gift to have in Mission Viejo! It is conveniently located close To Aliso Viejo, Laguna hills and lake forest as well. So happy this center is here!

I initially enrolled my children in the art camp (9-1) for June. Everything went fine. Ms Rad also mentioned a STEM camp in the afternoons (1:30-4:30), which we planned to add in July when we needed longer drop off support. Here's where things went sideways... I paid for the art camp the day before camp started in July and then followed up via text to confirm and pay for STEM. Ms Rad even asked what focus the kids wanted for STEM, which reinforced that we were able to enroll in both camps. The next day, however, I received a message around 12:30 saying my kids were almost done for the day. I replied, confused, since they were supposed to be enrolled for full days. That's when I learned that both art and STEM now ran simultaneously from 9-1. I was stunned. (Ms Rad said she mentioned this in the text, which she did, but I clearly misunderstood her text, as I was working off the schedule on her website, which still had two camps at independent times each day) Despite what she mentioned in the text and knowing I had already enrolled - and paid - for the art camp, she accepted a second payment for a simultaneous STEM class a couple of hours later and then refused to issue a refund less than 24 hours later when the mistake came to light! Her policy may be "no refunds," but this wasn't a cancellation or change of mind. This was a double-booking she approved and she knew about. I don't see how a "no refund" policy applies to a double-booking that an owner knowingly approved. Unfortunately, it didn't end there... On my children's final day, Ms Rad emailed my husband in the morning prior to drop off and asked us to pick them up 1.5 hours early to "accommodate staff breaks" that hadn't happened during the time my children were at camp. In effect, she was trying to retroactively reclaim break time - on the last day - after charging us for full-day camps all along. Not only is that highly unprofessional, but it also makes no sense. No one was ever asked to pick up early in June when full day attendance was open. And for context, our children were the only ones there past 1. This was not a simple miscommunication - it was a deeply unethical and highly unprofessional experience that left a terrible impression and taste in my mouth. I genuinely cannot recommend Beyond Alphabets based on my experience

As a First 5 Orange County Commissioner, appointed by the OC Board of Supervisors three times to…read moreoversee county programming of children 0-5, I can tell you STAY AWAY. I can recommend other preschools: ENC, Community Seedlings Preschool, LePort Montessori, Guidepost Montessori, Newport Coast Child Development Preschool, any of the Head Starts or state preschools, ECLC (Irvine), dozens of other great schools. If it is Montessori you want, this is not a true Montessori school because they don't even practice what Maria Montessori taught. The owner clearly doesn't take discrimination or inclusion that seriously because she shows no effort to outreach or work with children with disabilities. To me this demonstrates that she clearly cannot handle anything that isn't exactly how she wants it to be. Her assertion that they were found to be in full compliance is not truthful or accurate, there was "no finding for further action," which is not a finding of full compliance, but I think this may be above her head. It was a her word against mine issue, where it could not be proved, not that it was found not to have happened. Remember OJ was found not guilty beyond reasonable doubt, he was not found innocent. The "scheduled meetings" were offered only AFTER my daughter was removed from the acceptance list, and put back on the waitlist, only to wait how long? For the owner to continue to string us along? No thank you. Why would we want to go to such a school when they have such discriminatory practices? There was NO meeting offered in order to process enrollment when we were told there was a spot for us, my daughter was removed from enrollment before we were even told of the decision that she could not enroll due to being disabled. It is all utterly disgusting. It actually was a blessing in disguise to be hurt in such an awful way, because I would only want my child to be somewhere where she is truly wanted and accepted, as in the programs she has attended (without any accommodations for her disabilities, by the way, so she would have thrived in a Montessori classroom). And we stopped communicating because there was no point. We didn't send our typical child there because we didn't want her polluted with the owner's promotion of her own caste system and eugenic philosophies. The owner can lie and spin all she wants, like with every excuse she has with every negative review! No one is so perfect that *every* complaint is not even an ounce their fault. The fact that not even once in any replies to negative reviews does she ever admit even a teeny tiny mistake or a misunderstanding, just plain and simple everyone else is the problem and she is perfect, should be a red flag to readers of these reviews. It shows that she just spins everything, or maybe she is just delusional and actually believes her alternate reality. There are multiple comments here dating back years that relay a very similar experience about discriminating against children who she thinks will not be picture perfect robots: Jennifer P.'s review from Apr 23, 2021 or Dara M. from Apr 28, 2016. Don't fall for the disproportionate number of reviews from people who have only written one review and it is about this place. I think most people can see what I'm talking about. The owner claims to have a faith in God, so it is between her and her maker how she treats and has treated the most vulnerable and fragile children with such utter disregard and in such an ugly way, like they are disposable, when they are deserving of nothing but acceptance and love. One has to ask, why would I stake my reputation to make these statements so publicly? I am more than open to discussing details further with anyone who wishes to reach out to me. ALL I am saying is do your homework. If you are a current parent, consider: are there any children with noticeable disabilities? Maybe you agree with the owner and don't want your child learning alongside a child with disabilities. I've heard it from a lot of people, so it doesn't shock me. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, and to raise their children how they see fit, but that doesn't mean that the owner doesn't discriminate and that we weren't handled in the most insensitive and cruel of ways.
