    Sunroom in the Carriage House

Over the last several months, I have gotten to know the Colonel Blackinton Inn well. Between planning a bridal shower here and attending a rehearsal dinner, I am well acquainted with what the inn has to offer in the way of private functions. The Carriage House at the Inn is a wonderful venue to have a small get-together for many special occasions. This setting holds up to approximately 50 guests and has a full bar, fireplace, and sunroom. Though the space is small, staff strategically create an enjoyable space for people to mingle, socialize, and enjoy each other's company. Their table setup is beautiful, outdoor greenery stunning and inviting, and atmosphere homey. For each private event, you are accompanied by efficient and accommodating staff, full of smiles and pleasant conversation. Valet parks all cars. The food here is delicious! At the bridal shower guests indulged in sangria and a multitude of appetizers including crab cakes, bruschetta, a large fruit plate, and plentiful antipasto salad, amongst other items. The rehearsal dinner brought full glasses of red and white wines, a full cheese and cracker platter, chicken marsala, fish, and filet mignon. Everything was tasty! I would be very interested to try out dinner here on my own! I definitely recommend this place for your private function!

So the food was really good but i had a few complaints.... The wife's filet minion was not cooked correctly. It was supposed to be medium and it was, well, mid well, and medium all in the same steak. The risotto just flat out bad it had no flavor. Service was fantastic and i dont think i have had better service. Desert was just amazing. So bottom line they lost a whole star on the two food issues.

I really have to thank Yelp for this one. I would have never found this restaurant if it wasn't for all the reviews on there. It was excellent. The atmosphere, the service, and the food were all amazing.

Deep red walls, wide-plank floors, framed portraits of people long gone, a fireplace; this place has the kind of character you simply can't manufacture. Add a live jazz duo playing piano and upright bass in the corner and the atmosphere is close to perfect. We settled in at the bar, which has a decent whiskey selection, and started with cocktails. We also shared the kale and butternut squash salad; we asked them to add a goat cheese medallion from their spinach salad, and honestly it was the right call. That bright, creamy note was exactly what the salad needed...or maybe what I needed. I do love fried goat cheese on a salad. Either way, it was perfect. Then came the cranberry rolls, which were the quiet star of the afternoon; crunchy on the outside, soft and flavorful inside. Don't skip these. For mains, I had the breakfast skillet, which is essentially everything but the kitchen sink loaded into a cast iron pan. Heavily loaded with meat (Arby's would be jealous), homefried potatoes with satisfying crusty bits, a couple over medium eggs, and served sizzling hot. The cheese sauce draped over the top was lighter than you'd expect, landing somewhere between a béarnaise and a classic cheese sauce; it kept the whole thing from getting too heavy. It took a while to work through, and that's not a complaint. My partner had the butternut squash and brown butter sage ravioli. It was well-cooked, flavorful, not too rich, though a little more sage would have put it over the top. The bartender had a good sense of humor and clearly knew his way around the bar. The problem was that he was doing too much; he appeared to be his own bar back, serving the six people at the bar, waiting on the tables within the lounge area, and it appeared he was covering other tables outside of the lounge area as well. He was often away, and with salad plates, appetizer plates, and menus sitting in front of us long after they were needed, the clutter added up. Pre-bussing costs nothing and makes a real difference. Tighten up the staffing model and this place is a very easy five. If you're in the area, you should stop in and check it out for yourself. I'm not sure if the jazz duo on Sunday brunch is a regular occurrence, but if it is, you should definitely make a point of it. They were wrapping up around 2:30-3:00 and it made the whole afternoon feel like something a little more special than just brunch.

The parking is as difficult as all the reviews state - so as my fellow yelpers recommended, if the lot looks full, it's full - just park at the CVS and walk over. It's way too tight to wait around and maneuver for a spot. Walking into the place reminds you of being welcomed into a friend's comfy home. We were seated in a back room that felt cozy. Bernie was our server and he was a delight, super personable and attentive. For apps, we had the 1/2 size eggplant rollatini and 1/2 size spinach and goat cheese salad. Rollatini was good, salad was umm interesting - had a ton of fruit on it with a dressing I didn't love but it wasn't bad, just not sure I'd get it again. Onto the entrees - everyone really enjoyed their meals (short ribs and seafood cardinale) except me lol. My side pasta with pink vodka was good but my Chicken Rossini (labeled as a staff favorite) wasn't bad, it just had a flavor I didn't care for, a little bit of salt did help it but I wouldn't get it again. We enjoyed our visit very much and I would def come back to try other options. All of the staff were wonderful. Bernie mentioned to come back during the summer months as they have the patio open. Perhaps we shall when the weather is nicer and we might even luck out with a parking spot.....

Awesome awesome awesome!…read more We used this space for my sister's bridal shower (around 55 people in attendance) and couldn't be more pleased! First off, the space is very accessible right on Mendon Road. It's a newer space owned by the same people that own Angelo's next door. There is good natural lighting, ample parking outdoors, TVs, and a full bar inside the event area. Also, since it's a newer build, the technology is updated with a sound system and enough outlets to charge different devices. The space itself is in the the same building as Angelo's, and separated by a wall from the Angelo's dining room, but the food is catered by the same kitchen. When walking in, there's a small area to the right with bathrooms and coat closet/storage. To the left is where the main event space is located, along with the bar inside. We were planning the shower out of state, so a lot of the communication with the owners was through email and phone. Working with the owners was super easy and they were very prompt in answering questions leading up to the day. The shower was on a Saturday morning, and the owners were kind enough to give us the space the night before to set up and bring in items so there was that much less to do in the morning. I felt they were so nice with accommodating all our requests from food, to utilization of space, to even last minute things that we didn't know we needed. Day of, they had enough staff on hand to set up tables and any other requests that we needed. They provided all the linen and utensils, as well as servers to bring the food out (since we did a buffet) and then later clean up. They do not allow outside caterers for food, but do allow outside dessert. For the amount of people we had, there was seating for everyone, plus tables for gifts/food/dessert and still some open area to get some games and activities going. We didn't need a bartender since it was a dry event, but as part of the rental, we were given unlimited soft drinks and water (woot!) Overall - really happy with the service and the space accommodations. I think it can serve a number of different types of events and it's a great location from an access standpoint. Time to plan the next party!

Decorations are at a minimum. No leeway for any kind of customization there. No guest can hang outside the venue. But the management is horrible. When you call them they pick up the phone with no greeting or anything. They pick up and say "AHLO?" And sometimes I begin to question if it's franchescas on waterplace that I'm calling. I've scheduled to see the venue after putting my deposit down. Once I got there nobody was there. I called in the rain and nobody picked up. Nobody got back to me in 3 days. Save everyone time and their deposit money. It's $2500. If you pay upfront (which you have to) they reserve the right to keep it regardless of cancellations due to covid or anything else. CAUTION:…read moreDocument everything discussed with Franchesca and proceed with caution when communicating. For some strange reason she always "means something else." It seems that Franchesca's preference is to talk over the phone rather than providing written responses to emails. During several conversations with myself, mom to be, and mother of the mom to be (all separate conversations), Franchesca gave favorable responses then changed her response about capacity, parking, ADA access, clean up, rentals, etc. (I believe she just needed a booking so she said yes to all of my questions). Franchesca never updated the contract, did not send a fully executed contract, was misleading about parking and ADA access, didn't know how to work her own speaker, told us that the shelves in the fridge couldn't be removed to put the cake inside, and the list goes on. Franchesca also told me that she would not be present during the event but would be in reach if I needed her because she doesn't have an office on-site, which was fine. During set up, her husband introduced himself and said that if I needed anything, his number was on the wall. He didn't leave, in fact, he babysat our event, walking in and out as he pleased. Several people asked who he was because he was very much out of place. At one point I came out of the kitchen and he had a plate of food. Another time, I came out of the kitchen and he was eating a slice of cake. He certainly wasn't there to help because we did absolutely everything (set up, trash, dismantle, speaker, etc.). After we paid in full, Franchesca became difficult to talk to. She kept cutting us (mom to be, myself) off during conversations before we could complete a thought. She also told us that she would clean everything, then decided that she didn't clean and we had to remove our own trash unless we paid her $150 additional for trash removal because she didn't have access to a dumpster. The time allotted wasn't worth the price, especially when her husband lingered like we were in his way (very tacky). Wasn't a comfortable feeling as we felt we were being watched throughout our rental. The shower was gorgeous and all the guests were pleased. My overall experience for the price I paid is about a 4 (1-10 scale).
