Have always enjoyed a delicious dinner at the historical restaurant. Last week I hosted a reception after Moms funeral and everything was great. The bereavement menu is delicious with plenty of selections for everyone. The carriage house is perfect for about 50 and we were blessed with a nice day for the kids to play in the courtyard. Over the last several months, I have gotten to know the Colonel Blackinton Inn well. Between planning a bridal shower here and attending a rehearsal dinner, I am well acquainted with what the inn has to offer in the way of private functions. The Carriage House at the Inn is a wonderful venue to have a small get-together for many special occasions. This setting holds up to approximately 50 guests and has a full bar, fireplace, and sunroom. Though the space is small, staff strategically create an enjoyable space for people to mingle, socialize, and enjoy each other's company. Their table setup is beautiful, outdoor greenery stunning and inviting, and atmosphere homey. For each private event, you are accompanied by efficient and accommodating staff, full of smiles and pleasant conversation. Valet parks all cars. The food here is delicious! At the bridal shower guests indulged in sangria and a multitude of appetizers including crab cakes, bruschetta, a large fruit plate, and plentiful antipasto salad, amongst other items. The rehearsal dinner brought full glasses of red and white wines, a full cheese and cracker platter, chicken marsala, fish, and filet mignon. Everything was tasty! Been trying without success off and on for half a day to book a room. Website is convoluted and user-hostile. Telephone system is equally bad, only in as 1990's dysfunctional and useless. No humans accessible, even the voice mail is snarky and condescending. That to me totally screams that customer experience disasters of potentially epic proportions will follow if they actually notice that I want them to take my money. I gave up. Too bad. I think. Might be a good thing. Just would have been cool to stay in a place that was a ghost. I grew up a couple of blocks away when the place was part of an industrial waste site where we played. read more

So the food was really good but i had a few complaints.... The wife's filet minion was not cooked correctly. It was supposed to be medium and it was, well, mid well, and medium all in the same steak. The risotto just flat out bad it had no flavor. Service was fantastic and i dont think i have had better service. Desert was just amazing. So bottom line they lost a whole star on the two food issues. read more

Tonight was just a flop. Very disappointed in the less than acceptable service we received tonight. We went out with another couple to celebrate our wedding anniversaries. We got there at 6:15 and they sat us right away(had reservations). We ordered our 2nd round of drinks at 6:50. We hadn't saw our waiter for way to long and no drinks or soup. Finally at 7:35, we got up and went to the bar to go get our own drinks. They were made and just sitting at the waiter station, waiting to be picked up. Ice almost melted. Brought out meals and the food was great. I will give them that, but the nuts that one of us asked not to be on the salmon...was on the salmon. If they had thought to at least comp us the 2nd round of drinks, we could have turned a blind eye to the bad service from our waiter. read more

I had the pleasure of attending a bridal shower here for one of my good friends. It is a place the grooms family has used on many occasions and I can see why. The place is lovely. We had a byffet for the shower and it was done well for this type of event. There was some lag time but overall I have no complaints. They accomodated the large group of us in our own little space so we didn't bother the rest of the patrons and they didn't get in our way. I would definitely consider going back to check out the full restaurant sometime. read more

Meh. I have eaten at the Blackinton Inn about six times, usually for a business event. Was there last night. Took over an hour to get our meals. Had to send two sides back because the had obviously been prepared long before the rest of the meal and were dried and cold. Entrees were fine - nothing special. Overpriced in my opinion. I travel for work a lot and dine in many good restaurants. I give this place a B-. read more

Service was amazing. Food EXCELLENT! We'd made a reservation for 9 p.m. for our first visit (not by choice - really MAKE A RESERVATION! - early..you'll need it). We live in town and hadn't been here yet, vast menu, great creative specials - decor is ok, not period and sort of thrown together but hey, if I want period I'll go to a museum. We asked to move from the table we were given as it was right next to the busy kitchen door and there was a 'spotlight' shining straight down on our table. Our request was well received and accommodated graciously. We waited in the bar a bit while another more intimate table was available. Great Place! Great experience up until the end when we were asked to leave our table because another party was waiting for it. This was at 1pm on a Sunday and there were many other available tables. I've never been asked to leave a table, especially after spending over $100 on brunch. We were offered seats at the bar (none of us were drinking) as a consolation, but who wants to be moved? Once again, another wonderful Valentines dinner at the Inn. The friendly greeting upon our arrival set the tone for what lay ahead. The desk staff chatted with us while we waited a few minutes for our table. Bernard, our server, seemed to anticipate all of our needs promptly. His delivery of the variety of specials was superb. The night was beautiful as our party of for was seated. The waitress took our drink order and recommended a few items. She was terrific all night. Then it took a bit for our drinks to be delivered and she said the bar was a bit behind but again everything was going along well. We ordered calamari and crab cakes. The portion of calamari was generous and cooked perfectly to my taste. The crab cakes were not as I expected. My suspicion is that they do not use lump crab as many high end eateries do. Tasty but not too shelf. The girls had the pork chop special that was served with a fruit reduction, mashed potatoes and green beans that was delicious. My friend ordered and loved his baked scrod which looked delicious. I ordered the rack of lamb which was described as coming with asparagus and potatoes. I asked for medium rare and it was served to me well done and covered with gravy! They gave me the wrong vegetables too. The waitress came back and quickly made the exchange but when my plate returned with perfect lamb chops, although there was asparagus, it had that light green colored and was mushy. Cmon. They can do better. So I'll give highest marks to the hostess group of women and to our waitress. The drinks were great so top marks to the bartender as well. The kitchen missed with 1/4 of our dishes so I can't give an oa 5. read more

We were here to celebrate a family member's birthday. I had a Cosmo and it was on of the best ones I have had. The color was a very light pink. Perfect! Clam chowder and onion soup was excellent. The salad was ok, would have preferred better lettuce than the iceberg kind. I did not like getting my salad while we were still having our soup and chowder. Our main meal was also excellent. The sirloin was cooked to perfection. The service was top notch. Our waiter was very attentive. I would highly recommend this restaurant. read more

My sister and brother-in-law took me to dinner for my birthday. It was kind of a spur of the moment decision to have dinner here. I wanted to try something new. We were very pleased. They are gluten free, our waiter assured them that the chef could accommodate their needs which was done without exception. He had the blackened swordfish, she ha the chicken marsala and both were delicious. I had the chicken francaise which was light, perfectly seasoned and exactly what I wanted. We shared a bottle of wine. They have an extensive menu of choices. We chose a lovely Chenin Blanc. Not only was it an exceptional complement to our meals, it was very reasonably priced. To top it all off, we shared the chocolate bombe which ended our meal perfectly. I highly recommend the Colonel Blackington Inn for any occasion. read more

I had a very bad experience with the management. They host events and charged me for one. When COVID stated they "postponed" an event for March paid for January 17. As the situation evolved I called in May to confirm they were rescheduling they did not have any idea of when so I requested my money back. The owner stated she did not have the money. I told her I would wait, in June they began opening for dining and booking entertainment. I called and still no rebooking date. I again requested a refund. The owner assured me she would refund me although she was clearly not please. I waited fir the credit to my card to no avail. Finally the credit card company got them to reimburse me July 6. 7 months they had my money and they could not reimburse people for 5 months. I dont think I would have ever got my money back if I didn't have the credit card company involved. Very poor business. read more

My fiancee and I are planning on having our wedding at the Blackinton Inn so we've come to know the location fairly well but had yet to sample the food. My mother-in-law had purchased a gift certificate for the Inn so that we may do so. I will say that at this point I am very much excited (beyond the obvious reasons) we'd made our decision to have our reception at the Blackinton inn because the food was absolutely phenomenal. My fiancee had ordered the Walnut encrusted salmon, myself the Chicken Marsala with both of us splitting an appetizer of stuffed mushrooms. The food was beyond a doubt some of the best I have ever eaten all around, and the atmosphere was very pleasant as well. The waiter also made a very well balanced Gin Martini, being careful to not overpower it with vermouth but not underpower it either. While we felt as though the waiter was not as attentive as we'd have liked, not checking in that often and taking quite some time to provide water, I'm still giving it five stars because the food alone is that delicious. read more

We visited here a week ago today for brunch with family visiting from Vermont. We've lived in this area for many years and have visited many times. We've also observed over time and as ownership has changed hands some differences in the food, service and overall experience but it's still one of THE nicest and prettiest places to go for a special occasion meal in this area. As we entered the driveway our aunt exclaimed the Inn looked exactly like it was transplanted FROM Vermont!! We all enjoyed our delicious meals and the service was outstanding as was the food and presentation. We arrived shortly after they had opened for the day. The ONLY "sour-note" was when we arrived (party of 5) the young man at the desk DIDN'T say hello but RATHER, Did you make a reservation. Well it was a bit awkward and we WERE a bit puzzled as we were the ONLY guests waiting and IN the restaurant at the time. So apart from the thoughtless non-greeting on arrival we had a fantastic time. Go and enjoy if you find yourselves in the area. read more

This place is a wonderful inn. The grounds are kept lovely. Some of the rooms are small but others are quite large. Room rates are reasonable for what you get and includes breakfast. Sundays they have a jazz brunch and that is included as well if you stay Saturday night. We live 10 minutes away but for my birthday we have stayed on Saturday night, checked out in the morning and stayed for the brunch. It gives us a sense of getting away while we have a cat that needs medication twice a day. So I get up in the morning, run home, take care of the cat and am back in no time. read more

They changed our party from inside to outside under a canopy at our request due to the beautiful weather. We had reservations today at 2pm for brunch. Our first table was In the bar(there was only one table in the bar )that's where they put us with our 16 year old daughter! We were brought to a new table after 15-20 min.the brunch consists of A choice an omelet,strawberries,small muffins,and a few deserts, the service was good,that's it, the people writing these reviews should go to the 1149 for brunch. I've been here a few times to eat in the restaurant (dinners and lunches), most recently yesterday 3/18/15 for lunch with my sisters and mom. It was wonderful. I love the charm of the Inn and the privacy you feel when dining in one of the many rooms. The Inn is absolutely gorgeous. Service is always top notch and yesterday was no exception. I had the blackened sushi grade tuna and jumbo shrimp. Tuna cooked rare was perfect and the shrimp was delicious. The vegetables and potatoes were excellent also. Everyone enjoyed their lunches very much. We had a lovely bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and creme brulee and coffee for dessert. Everything was perfect. We lingered for quite a while with our coffee and it was comfortable and fun. No one rushed us to leave. I cannot wait to return. Always a wonderful experience. I have hosted and been to functions in the carriage house which are usually nice. The most recent was a sit down dinner for my mother in-law and they crammed so many tables in there it was just too hot, crowded and hectic to enjoy. You could not walk between the tables without having people get up and move for you so no one had opportunity to mingle. It was uncomfortable and not fun..
