So with all due respect, what you see is what you get. I should have taken pictures, but if you've seen one comedy "loft," you've seen them all. This is not to take anything away from the comedy. We saw Leslie Liao on a Thursday night, and she was fantastic! I can't say the same for her openers, but they are starting out and will get better with experience. The loft is small, and people are packed in there pretty intimately. I had a lovely conversation with a guy from Baltimore on my lap (only slight exaggeration). Plus, it was hot...really hot. Like Leslie did an improv set as to how hot she was as the headliner hot. As with any comedy club, it is a two-item minimum per person in the club. They were out of my first three drink orders (which were canned CutWaters), so I got a $13 margarita in a Dixie cup (again, slight exaggeration). We also ordered a brownie sundae, which was a single scoop of ice cream from a spoon and a square brownie they probably microwaved from Duncan Hines. We did learn that a $4 bottle of water counts as an item, so that's where we made up the difference. At the end of the day, we laughed and had a great time with Leslie. Would I go back? Probably not, we were visiting out of town. But I don't regret supporting local comedy houses and comics! read more

I attended the 9:30 p.m. show on August 2, 2026. Although the show was scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m., guests were encouraged to arrive early because general admission seating was first come, first served. I arrived around 8:50 p.m., expecting to have plenty of time to check in and get seated. From the moment I arrived, the event was disorganized. A staff member checked me in and directed me downstairs to wait in the bar area until seating began. There were multiple groups of guests with different seating options, but there appeared to be no clear system for checking people in or seating them. The process was confusing and poorly managed. To make matters worse, one staff member became so frustrated that he began cursing at guests. Watching an employee lose his composure and direct his frustration toward customers was completely unprofessional. Guests were not allowed into the seating area until around 10:20 p.m., nearly an hour after the scheduled start time. Even then, many people were still waiting outside. It appeared the venue had oversold the event and did not have enough seating for everyone. Whether the issue was the promoter or the venue's management, the event was mishandled from the beginning. After waiting for so long with no clear communication, I decided to leave. I wasn't willing to waste any more of my evening, especially since the venue also enforced a two item minimum for food or drinks. Expecting customers to continue spending money while failing to provide a well organized event only made the experience more frustrating. I came here last night for the Tacarra Williams show and I will never visit this venue again! I bought 4 general admission tickets for my sister's birthday back in February. When we arrive, the guy checking will call says he can't find my tickets, so I show him my email. He then says he sees me in his system for August 1st and shows me, to which I show him my email again. Just then, another guy comes up and when the situation is explained, he says this happened to someone else and since I have my email to let me in. I hear them tell other people they can sit anywhere there isn't a reserved sign,but he tells my party to wait by the wall. After a while, a guy with a clipboard asks for our names and my husband tells the man my name,but also tells him he might not see it since there was a mix up with the dates. The guy says. "Ahhh", then directs us to sit in some chairs they put BETWEEN tables. After seeing there was no reserved sign on the table behind us and the people who came in after us sat there, I realized they put us in these chairs since we were there on the "wrong date". This place doesn't do refunds, so I'm assuming some people got pushed to other dates because of how many tickets they sold,but I bought tickets for a July 31st show on FEBRUARY 6TH!!! WHY WAS MY TICKET CHOSEN TO BE PUSHED??? Mind you,there is a 2 item minimum, so we were expected to just eat in our laps, so I ordered 2 drinks,but my sister and brother in law got fries and mozzarella sticks and looked ridiculous. To add insult to injury, they charged my credit card $58.28 (someone else's tab I suppose) in addition to the $66 we actually spent and they don't open until 6pm, so I'm now going to have to dispute the charge with my bank. read more

Dear reader, The Comedy Loft of DC is one of those places we happily return to again and again, which rather tells the story on its own. We have seen many comedians there over time and always have an awesome time. The space has that intimate, classic comedy club feel that reminds me of a New York club in the best possible way. It feels lively and close enough to the stage that the whole experience is more engaging, but never uncomfortably cramped. The drinks and food are also genuinely good, which is a lovely bonus when a venue could easily rely on the show alone. What really stands out, though, is the staff. They are super nice, impressively quick, and somehow manage to move through the room so quietly that there is very little disruption during the show. You still get your drinks and food without feeling like the performance has been interrupted, which is no small feat. Overall, it is a thoroughly reliable night out with great energy, good service, and a proper comedy club atmosphere. We will absolutely keep coming back. read more

No joke -- I really like DC Comedy Loft! After a few visits to see both big-name comics and local talent, I can confidently say it's one of my fav spots for a chill night out in DC. Having been to a number of DMV comedy venues (DC Improv, Baltimore Comedy Factory) where the whole 'two item' minimum requirement forces you to pick between a mid, under/over cooked food item and watered down $17 drink, I've been admittely blown away by how good the food/beverage offerings here are. The only caveat is the price, but hey, a comics gotta eat too! It's tucked away in a bit of an obscure corner (my Uber drivers always get confused) but the performance spaces are decently large. Just make sure you get there early to nab a good seat. At a bigger name shows, a 5-minute delay could have you craning to see the onstage talent. Bathrooms here are tiny tiny tinyyyy, and if you're above the BMI for your height, you truly might have a hard time getting in through the doors. When evaluated against the competition, I think Comedy Loft comes out pretty solid. read more

I'm extremely disappointed with my recent experience at The Comedy Loft. I purchased tickets on Christmas Eve 2025 for the Tacarra Williams Meet & Greet scheduled for July 30, 2026 -- a special gift for my husband. We received no communication whatsoever that the show had been cancelled. We only found out when we arrived at the venue and were told by a staff member named Shaquan that the show wasn't happening. Another staff member took a photo of my ticket receipt and assured me I would receive a refund. As of August 4th, I have received no refund and no follow‑up communication, despite their own posted policy stating refunds are issued when a show is cancelled. On top of that, we wasted time and money on round‑trip Ubers for an event that never happened. What should have been a great Christmas gift turned into a frustrating and avoidable experience. This place is terrible. Last night the comedy show was delayed nearly 3 hours, leaving attendees outside in the rain waiting without any updates from the staff. I had the best time at the Comedy Loft this past weekend watching Kam Patterson. We took the train in and walked about 10 minutes before arriving at the bar. The show started at 7 pm (really 8 pm) and we got there a little after 6:30 pm when the doors initially opened. When we got there we had lots of options to sit at since there were only a couple of people there. The staff was very friendly with helping us navigate a spot with a nice view around the reserved tables. I believe you can pay $10 extra to get a closer seat but I think getting there early is just as good. Our server was great at remembering what we needed and also helping the many other people within the space. By the time the show started it had gotten very very crowded but he still did a great job helping everyone and not being in the way. We ordered wings, their fried chicken sandwich and Cutwater's. The wings with lemon pepper were really good for bar food. The fried chicken sandwich I would recommend passing on. The show itself was hilarious. There was a host and 3 comedians before the main act. If you ever get the chance definitely check out a Kam Patterson show. I will be back for another night of laughs at the Comedy Loft. read more

It was a packed house so I assumed service would be slow. Our waiter let us know what items they had already ran out of prior to taking our orders . The food is your average bar bites with the addition of things like the sweet chilli brussel sprouts which were really good. Food came out quickly & the portions were surprisingly large. The place isn't huge so you'll be getting up close and personal with other patrons. If you don't mind yapping/laughing w/ strangers, you'll love this place. Food looked good, and although I didn't try anything I mingled with fellow early arrivals and they all said the garlic wings were outstanding and one of the servers said the fried mozzarella sticks were their most popular item. The location is the previous and legendary Brickskeller, so those of us that have flowed in and out of DC over the last 25 years may find this place familiars. Anyway, your group can reserve sections or you can come alone. There's a place for everyone and all are welcomed. I had such a good laugh here seeing the Felonious Munk and a few other people! I didn't like the fact that the ticket purchase recommends showing up 30 min to an hour early and you won't be guaranteed a seat if you come late but I showed up 10 minutes before and everyone was waiting downstairs in the bar area because the loft wasn't even ready to seat people. They weren't ready to seat people until about 5 minutes late. After everyone was seated there were plenty of left over seats. The place is wheel chair friendly. There is a 2 item purchase requirement and the food comes out pretty quick. I had the chicken sandwich and fries which was pretty good. The chicken sandwich becomes messy as you eat it. I got a rum punch for 9 dollars and it wasn't really strong. Might as well should have got a soda. We were seated immediately and I liked that we were able to get started on food and drinks ahead of a majority of people so there wasn't really a wait. I came in February and completely forgot to review! I've been several times without checking in and told myself to review this night, I forgot but hey better late then never. I was able to catch New York's funny man Vladimir Caamaño. I would say this place has some pretty good comedians frequent their venue. They do the same thing that other comedy places do, make you buy two items per person. I actually enjoyed my food. Drink was perfect, Tito's and Pineapple for me please! I didn't take any pics because by the time the food came no cameras were allowed. Ambiance is giving "cool hole in the wall." I went here to see a comedian that I've been following for a while. He was the opener for another comedian, and him and the main act were scheduled for two shows on Friday night and one on Saturday night. Unfortunately, only 3 of us showed up for the earlier Friday show, so shortly after the show was scheduled to start, the individual who I believe was managing the comedy acts (I didn't get a name) came over to let us know that the 7:00pm show unfortunately had to be canceled. It was clear that he felt bad, and he gave us a couple options. He first told us we could either go to the show that was currently being held on the upper level for free, go to the later show at 9:30, or receive a refund. I opted for the later show and figured I would find a bar/restaurant to go to in the interim. But he then let me know that I could go to the upstairs comedy show in the interim in addition to also seeing the later show. While I know this may have been a frustrating situation for some, I thought they handled it as well as they could have and I really appreciated that they offered solutions. The comedy show upstairs was great, and when the comedians that I originally went to see did come on, they were great too, despite it being a small crowd! In addition to the managers customer service, I experienced excellent customer service the whole time. The bartender I had in the downstairs area was quick on drinks and offered to help carty my stuff upstairs (though I declined). He also recognized that the sour beer I had been drinking downstairs was not available upstairs, and said that if I wanted it while upstairs, I should just let them know and he would run it up for me. The bartender upstairs also had great customer service. She was super friendly, checked in frequently, and even gave me a heads up that the beer I ordered came in a cool bottle and asked if I wanted to keep the bottle vs her just pouring it in a glass like they typically would. There were other positive interactions throughout the night, and to me, good customer service is paramount. Overall, I really enjoyed the environment, the staff, and the shows I saw, and I plan to come here more often! However, there are a couple things to note. The food and drinks *are* pricey (beers are about $12-$14, food is $12-$20ish), and you must buy 2 items minimum. I saw other reviews from other platforms complain about this, and while I understand why that may be a barrier for some, this is also a fairly small venue and I imagine they make a good chunk of their money from the food and drink sales. I, thankfully, had looked up the venue beforehand and knew what to expect price-wise, but I can see that being shocking for someone who does not look beforehand. The food was also good, but nothing spectacular (though I didn't expect it to be, to be honest). I *will* say that the tickets, website, etc. all clearly state the 2-item policy. Additionally, the bathrooms (or at least the women's stalls in the basement level) *are* incredibly tiny and difficult to maneuver in. These two things were not a huge deal to me, hence why I didn't deduct stars, but they may be a big deal for others. read more

Regardless of how one views the topic Katie failed to delivery anything remotely funny. It seems more like her therapy session and the audience could clearly sense it. We sat at the bar and it was first come and first serve. So unless you aren't in the front you may not be able to sit with your whole party. Also sitting at the bar can be very distracting to trying to listen to the comedians set. The place is also quite old and could use some renovations. Also need to work out some logistical issues as there is only one way in and out and the line can be quite long. I've been coming here for a few years. Never had a problem. Tonight I went with two of my friends. Both Hispanic like me. And even though we had preferred seating, they sat us in the cheap seats. It was hot af, no ac. The black lady with the glasses that sat us, didn't care. There were several spots a lot closer that had at least 3 seats for Jeff Dye show on Friday April 3, 7:30. Throughout the entire night, those seats remained empty. This is such a bad look. I spent good money before, during, after the show. I was repaid by having a pole in front of me blocking my view. And several people bumping into me during the whole show. I normally ignore when I feel like racism or stereotyping is happening. Because I don't want to be that guy. But I felt that way the entire night. Even the bartender downstairs. And we're both Hispanic. I finished my drink way before the white people. And guess who he came to give new drinks to first. In the future, I would arrive earlier (especially if in a large group) to make sure we find sufficient space to keep our group intact. When attending a show, the Comedy Loft requires patrons to order at least two items from the bar or kitchen. I ordered one Madras cocktail, which was fairly bad (it was carbonated, for some reason). Because my drink was barely palatable, and the waitress was very busy trying to serve a large section, I sipped it slowly throughout the night's three sets. To meet the order minimum, I purchased a bottle of water to take home; unfortunately, I couldn't trust that a second drink would be prepared accurately, and nothing on the menu was safe for those with celiac disease to order. The comedian whom I saw selected by a friend; his jokes were not to my taste. Despite the disappointing performance, the venue itself was a decent place to see a show. First off, the comedian that I went to see here described the place as a basement with a porch and I couldn't agree more. It's super small and intimate inside. Even the bathrooms. I would highly suggest for all my ladies with curves to use the bathroom before and don't drink while you're there. The stalls were the smallest I've ever seen but I will say that they were very clean. The food was basic. I would have eaten before and just gotten drinks had I know the quality of the food. We were not allowed to go to seats until 8:15... Beers are double the price they should be...charged $5 for club soda. Comedy loft does everything they can to try to put you in a bad mood before the show starts. Didn't order any food, but we waited next to kitchen which looked unsanitary. So many better options for comedy in DC. Hopefully comics realize that comedy loft will torture their fans and stop doing shows here. read more

The DC Comedy Loft was easy to find and we found a parking space on the street, within the block. They weren't ready for the 2nd show crowd and wound up seating us about 45 minutes after the expected time. That's a long time to stand around in heels on a rainy night, but we found a corner of the beer bar in their basement to pass the time. Tables and seats are jammed in elbow to elbow and no air was circulating, so I felt more comfortable wearing my mask. We ordered drinks, I ordered hummus with veggies and pita for dipping, and he ordered chicken wings. The food arrived hot and was well-prepared. Our server was very friendly. The comedians were very funny and I was reminded that they were the reason that we were there. Five stars for food/drinks/friendly server/funny comedians; minus one star for crowding/no ventilation; and minus another star for 45 minutes late seating brought me to a (respectable) three-star rating.
