So with all due respect, what you see is what you get. I should have taken pictures, but if you've…read moreseen one comedy "loft," you've seen them all. This is not to take anything away from the comedy. We saw Leslie Liao on a Thursday night, and she was fantastic! I can't say the same for her openers, but they are starting out and will get better with experience. The loft is small, and people are packed in there pretty intimately. I had a lovely conversation with a guy from Baltimore on my lap (only slight exaggeration). Plus, it was hot...really hot. Like Leslie did an improv set as to how hot she was as the headliner hot. As with any comedy club, it is a two-item minimum per person in the club. They were out of my first three drink orders (which were canned CutWaters), so I got a $13 margarita in a Dixie cup (again, slight exaggeration). We also ordered a brownie sundae, which was a single scoop of ice cream from a spoon and a square brownie they probably microwaved from Duncan Hines. We did learn that a $4 bottle of water counts as an item, so that's where we made up the difference. At the end of the day, we laughed and had a great time with Leslie. Would I go back? Probably not, we were visiting out of town. But I don't regret supporting local comedy houses and comics!

Dear reader, The…read moreComedy Loft of DC is one of those places we happily return to again and again, which rather tells the story on its own. We have seen many comedians there over time and always have an awesome time. The space has that intimate, classic comedy club feel that reminds me of a New York club in the best possible way. It feels lively and close enough to the stage that the whole experience is more engaging, but never uncomfortably cramped. The drinks and food are also genuinely good, which is a lovely bonus when a venue could easily rely on the show alone. What really stands out, though, is the staff. They are super nice, impressively quick, and somehow manage to move through the room so quietly that there is very little disruption during the show. You still get your drinks and food without feeling like the performance has been interrupted, which is no small feat. Overall, it is a thoroughly reliable night out with great energy, good service, and a proper comedy club atmosphere. We will absolutely keep coming back.

If you've never been, just know this isn't your typical theater outing--it's way more interactive, chaotic (in a good way), and just plain fun. When you walk in, there's a bar, but you don't order directly from it. Each seat has a QR code, and the staff delivers drinks right to you, which is super convenient. Once you enter the theater area, you're even given a complimentary shot to kick things off--great way to set the tone for the night. The venue itself is small and really intimate, which makes the whole experience better. There isn't a bad seat in the house. The seats along the stage are bench-style with cubbies underneath for your stuff, while the upper-level seating has stools set behind bookcases that wrap around parts of the stage. The drink menu includes themed cocktails, plus wine, beer, and spirits--expect to pay around $15 per drink. There are also light snacks, but portions are small and a bit pricey, so don't count on them to fill you up. If you do order food, the stools by the bookcases are definitely the best seats since you'll have a surface to put your plate on--otherwise, it's lap dining. As for the show itself, it was fantastic. There's a lot of audience participation, and the actors absolutely commit--including proving they're actually drinking. One thing I didn't realize beforehand is that not the entire cast drinks--there's usually one designated drinker, which honestly makes it even funnier and leads to some unforgettable moments. The performance is an abbreviated version of the story, mixed with plenty of local references that keep it fresh and relatable. The Drunk Shakespeare company also puts on other holiday-themed shows throughout the year, which is awesome. I'll definitely be back to check out Drunk Christmas Carol.

There so many current nuances woven into the show that makes it hilarious and the props. Please go and have a good night whether solo, date night, or with friends. You'll have a great time. Not to mention, you get a welcome shot upon entering the theatre. One thing, I found really nice is that you order from your phone and the servers bring you everything at your seat.

You can also pay for a parking pass through their website but the lot only opens up an hour beforehand so be sure to plan your evening with that in mind. We ended up parking on the street for only $3 since we arrived early to grab dinner nearby. The entry line was super long and literally went around the block but it moved surprisingly fast. Staff was friendly and helpful at the door. The inside was dark when we arrived and it would've been nice to have some house lights so people could find their way around the venue a little easier. The AC was cranking and the temp was comfortable. Upstairs has standing room and some bleachers which provides a good view with less of a crowd. Their VIP area looks nice and I'd be interested in splurging next time for a seat and a better view. There's bars downstairs and upstairs and even some food concessions. Getting out of the venue from the balcony was a bit stressful with only one way out. It makes you imagine what would happen if you needed to get out in a rush... other than that, it's a good space.

The only problem is parking can be hard to find. There is a lot across the street, but it opens up an hour before the show. Honestly, it's usually just easiest to take Metro in and walk over. There are plenty of great restaurants nearby so it's easy to grab a bite before the show. The drinks are solid. It's mostly standing room but you can get a seat for accessibility reasons or if you pay for VIP.
