On the recommendation of our neighbor, we called the Comfort Authority and scheduled a quote for 2 home air conditioner repairs and new ducting installation. We have always been skeptical of this industry since we've been burned before and are very careful of who we do business with. Taking our neighbor's recommendation, we made the call and met with a respectful and kind company representative, but were not ready to make a final judgement until potentially doing work with this company. As a businessman myself, I know that a cheap estimate or company quote is not always a good way to go as you often "get what you pay for" and later regret the choice to go cheap. My neighbor had gone as far as to mention that the Comfort Authority was not the cheapest, but not the most expensive; however, we would likely be very pleased with the quality of the equipment, any installations, and certainly the after-care. All of that said, as a long-time businessman, I still remained skeptical and ready to "pull the plug" if anything went wrong with any installation if we chose to go with this company. Well, as expected, and as advised, the Comfort Authority was not the cheapest, but also not the most expensive with their quotes. What initially impressed me with the quotes are that we were offered different options, from lower efficiency rated systems, to higher efficiency rated systems, as well as different warranty packages. The representative didn't just leave a quote and run away, he took the time to review all of the options with us and ask if we had any questions, going as far as to tell us that if we had any questions or concerns along the way, they would be quick to address them...but of course, I wondered if this was just a ploy to get us to sign. Well, we decided on using the Comfort Authority, even though there were two less expensive companies that we could have gone with, while admittedly, there were a few companies that had higher prices as well. I always remain skeptical until a job is completely done. Impressively, 2 large vans arrived early on our scheduled day and the entire team was introduced to us, consisting of a five person team with Peter, Shaun, Freddy, Michael and Eduardo. These gentlemen were all very humble and each of them always made sure to put on covers over their shoes to prevent any dirt from coming in our home. Each of the men would ask to enter the property when they needed to and aside from asking to use the restroom, only asked if we had any questions while they were working. We were told what the team was doing during the whole installation and were asked "if that was ok"...actually making sure we weren't being bothered by being kept informed! I kept waiting for the bomb-shell to drop. The amount of work these gentlemen needed to accomplish spanned more than 2 days and each time the same greetings and same kind professional attitude. The men all understood that although they were receiving a paycheck from the Comfort Authority, we were the ones they were working for. We were so thoroughly impressed with this team and the company so far, that we then requested them to come back and rework the ducting which we understood had been previously damaged by rodents. With the exception of Freddy from the first team, it was the same team that came back to complete the ducting work and the exact same attitudes, explanations, and kind professional attitude. Well, suffice it to say, I am more apt to scream when I don't get what I pay for and certainly provide feedback on any negative experiences, but rarely get the opportunity to provide positive feedback on such an extensive job. I will never lose my skepticism with business and contract work; however, this company and their professional team, well, they're surviving in a cut-throat business with very unscrupulous competition that will likely try to undercut them whenever possible. I am often skeptical of services that have only great reviews. As a fellow business owner, I can say it is a rare to find a company that provides 5 star service consistently. I am often leery of contractors in Florida, due to the workmanship my hardwood flooring service encounters often. However, when reading the reviews on Yelp, I was inclined to see what The Comfort Authority was really about. I moved into my grandparents house 4 years ago and our air conditioner was never very cold. Our previous "AC Guy" always told us everything was just fine, so we started to replace windows and make sure our house was sealed up, it was built in 1935. I still was getting almost $600/month Teco bills AND my house was still 85 degrees inside after midnight, every night! I decided it was time to find someone to look at it. We hoped it would just need Freon or something minor like that, but prepared for having to have it replace. The reviews for The Comfort Authority was so phenomenal, I called to schedule a quote. We had to wait 2 weeks for them to come out. When James came, he spent 2 hours with my husband and I and thoroughly went over our system and why it would need to be replaced. Unfortunately, not only was the system very outdated, not installed to any code, but was too fragile to be repaired. He provided us with 4 different options, each had the option of replacing duct work as well. He explained the differences of each unit, in layman's terms, so we could make informed choices, but NEVER pressured us to go with any system or even their company! Based off of our gut instinct and the time spent with James, we decided on the spot to go with them and to replace EVERYTHING! Two weeks later, and man did we count down the days, Peter and Shawn arrived followed later by Steve and James to begin the 2 day tear out and installation of our new system. They arrived promptly, had all of the material needed for the project, and worked together was a well-oiled machine. The teamwork between them was outstanding! They we very professional, courteous, friendly, and hardworking group of guys! I was stress about a sense of chaos in my home prior to their arrival. This was probably the most enjoyable service I have ever had done in my home. None of the guys seemed bothered by my or my 7 yr old's questions, they even allowed him to "help" and never seemed bothered, in fact they seemed happy for it. For any parents out there, you know how children can often annoy people working, so this was very impressive for me to watch. We can not say enough great things about The Comfort Authority! Let me start by saying that this is the second time in my life that I am writing a review. This was a very difficult decision for me to make because it's a big purchase and the first time I'm purchasing an air conditioner. I always like to be an informed buyer, so I had my work cut out for me. I decided to replace my air conditioner for 2 reasons. My electric bill was sky high for most of the year and I wanted to replace it before it died in the middle of the summer. I got 2 references from people I know. I called those people to come out and give me an estimate. I also spent a lot of time researching to understand everything I could about buying an air conditioner. I didn't have a good feeling about the first person that came out. I had decided to go with the second company, but when I decided to look them up in the BBB, they had unresolved cases. I then decided to look on my own and see what I could find. I came across The Comfort Authority. They had the most number of reviews and the highest ratings. After reading their reviews, I called and immediately had an evening appointment set up. James came into my house with his shoes covered to avoid bringing anything from outside into my home. He did his evaluation and explained to me what my options were should I decide to go with them. By the end of the evening, I knew that my search was over. I had some questions along the way leading up to my installation, about the product, where the air conditioner was going to be installed, etc. I even called several of their customers to get their feedback on their equipment and the company. I heard only glowing comments. I came to understand that the contractors are the most important part of this equation. You can have the Cadillac of machines, but if it is not installed properly, it will not work properly and be nothing but a nightmare. They showed up at my house a little after 8 am on installation day and left at 11:30 pm. By the end of that day, I could feel air coming from the vent in my bedroom for the first time since I lived in this house. I was not sure at first if I was imagining it or not. I've had the new system now for 4 days and I am completely satisfied and relieved that I made an excellent decision with a great outcome. James and Steve are the owners. Just to let know that Gerri Cox was very friendly and gave us three options to solve our problem. We had contacted other company who just sold to us a new A/C unit, but they didn't evaluate the conditions of our home ducts, they evaluate them after the installation of the new unit was already done. When the other company evaluated the house ducts the technician told us that the ducts had holes, mold and they were under sized and they needed to be replaced asap because the new A/C unit could break down. I felt I was pressured and he assured me that they were the only ones offering a great price and warranty. The next day I called The Comfort Authority and they came to my house the next working day. I explained to Mr.Cox what happened with the other company and then he proceeded to evaluate my house ducts, he took he's time inspecting them, and provided several pictures of all the ducts from the whole house. He told me that the ducts didn't have any holes, that yes they had mold and they were undersized. Then he gave us three different options all of them involved replacing the ducts but the difference were the kind of ducts be used. Comfort Authority quote was more appealing. The warranty on the ducts, the warranty on workmanship and the overall price. Gerri came on Dec.21.2017 and the job was completed on Dec.26.2017. The job took a whole day and Gerri told me that it was a possibility that installation could take two days. The four technicians doing the replacement one of them his name was Marshall, were very nice and polite. They did a nice job and after they finished one of them asked to us to pass the vacuum inside the house due to some insulation fell through the ducts during installation. I told them to not worry since they were in the attic the whole day doing the installation. Also there was some insulation outside on the driveway, and they wanted to picked it up. I also insisted that it was OK that we were going to clean up even though everything was minimal. Also Marshall checked the new A/C unit and told us that it needed a pound of Freon. Even the other company failed me on that matter also. We are extremely happy for the level of professionalism and being very nice to us. I will definitely recommend them because they surpassed my expectations and I felt confident doing business with them. I honestly couldn't say enough good things about the team at The Comfort Authority. Their level of professionalism and expertise is unparalleled. Even from the little things like making sure where they parked out front is OK, and asking permission to go in and out of the house (not just assuming they can do what they want in your home). Little things like that may not seem important to some, but it just shows their attention to detail and that carries over into everything they do. In the summer A/C wasn't working very well and it seemed like it was on all day long to just try to keep the house moderately cool. James came out and was initially a little stumped as to what was going on. He was even showing me all his readings and keeping informed as to what he was finding. Things just weren't adding up. It turned out that our unit inside was too large of a size for this house and didn't match the size of the unit outside of the house. He even pulled up the manufactures specs for matching units and these 2 had no values, because they weren't supposed to be together. They helped us come up with a cost effective way to deal with the issue rather than having to replace the whole A/C unit. Not only did the A/C start performing MUCH better, but our power bill dropped almost $50 a month! A few months later, our A/C started acting up again. Fearing that it was something wrong with the changes they made, we called them to come out again. Once again, James came out and within a short time was able to troubleshoot the problem down to a bad breaker, which had absolutely nothing to do with anything they had done. Once again, we had a rare and not commonly seen issue. James was able to find the issue and have our A/C back up and running again within less than an hour. Once again he was incredibly professional, courteous, and kept me informed through the entire process. I couldn't recommend these guys enough. We had annual preventative maintenance service on 2 air-conditioner units today by Derek and Marshal from Comfort Authority, and while trying to avoid sounding like an advertisement, we can say that we were nothing short of impressed. We've had air-conditioner technicians from other companies in the past either misinform us or push the "up-sell" of services, upgrades, or new systems when we didn't need them. These gentlemen were extremely respectful and honest. Honest is a rare trait now-a-days, especially in an industry that few people understand, which leaves many companies and their technicians to be able to easily mislead customers into repairs or replacement of parts or whole systems when they don't need them. Today, we knew one of our air-conditioner systems needed some extra attention because of circuit breakers that were "popping" whenever we tried to use the air-conditioner. As a prior electronics technician, It's easier to determine if a technician is attempting to mislead me; however, these gentlemen easily located a simple and common problem and repair that my lack of air-conditioning experience prevented me from finding. These technicians were aware that our air-conditioner had a circuit breaker "popping" problem and that it wasn't cooling properly; however, they quickly found the minor problem and with our permission, they repaired it and performed the annual service without attempting to sell us more than we needed or even try to take advantage. This is how a good company keeps loyal customers, especially in an industry that's hard to keep good people and that is riddled with dishonest companies that take advantage of people's lack of air-conditioning knowledge. These guys were fantastic from day one. We got four quotes from the top rated companies on Yelp and Angie's list. I bought an older home that needs some major upgrades, starting with air quality. Only this company provided an estimate that provided full equip. detail with pricing options, starting with the 18+ seer with eco ducts, or without, and scaling down from there. I had other contractors out and took too long to decide on the a/c which was a costly mistake. My existing a/c began to leak onto the wood floor. I called a on Monday morning and spoke with Kalyn who asked, "When would you like this install to take place?" I said, tomorrow. And no joke, they were here 'tomorrow' and just like another review stated, Owner Steve Cox came to the house and discussed the install plan with us which included input from the install crew in a meeting they had had the evening before while planning out the job. We had a large crew lead by Marshall and each person knew our job well and could answer any question we had and was a pleasure to have around. We are so thankful. Better yet, we have discovered we do not need to set our thermostat to 73 degrees. That is freezing!!!!! Now we leave it between 78-80 with a humidity around 65% and are quite cool. That is amazing. Oh, one more thing....If you go to the north side of the house the temperature will be exactly the same as the south side of the house. It's smart. And, I can control the thermostat with my smart phone. Oh yea. It's that sweet. I called them all the way out to Belleair and it was no problem for them. Even if you have your go-to a/c company (the a/c systems are mostly the same, it's the install that makes it suck and blow and stay cool) I still recommend you call them for the informed estimate and a fresh look at how your system should be installed for optimal function before you pay for more of the same old, same old. The experience we had with The Comfort Authority was first class on every level. They were professional, thorough and detailed with their walk through of the house and diagnosing the system. They were very educational when they presented the available recommendations for our house and conducted a very thorough presentation including the technical side of the system, available pricing options and warranty etc. They never pressured us, upsold us or mislead us throughout the process. Once we made the choice to go with The Comfort Authority we came to the day of installation and we had trepidations about the process of replacing our entire system from top to bottom but it was an incredible experience that we won't forget. Marshall, Sean and Peter were outstanding and took their time, explained things and answered every question we had as they installed the system. When you have to spend thousands of dollars on a new air conditioner, you want to feel like you are in good hands and that was totally the case with Comfort Authority. I knew my unit was on borrowed time after a series of band aid repairs over the last few years but I made an appointment to get the coils cleaned and a new thermostat put in with the hopes that I could slap yet another bandaid on the unit and have her last a little bit longer. The technician who arrived, Derek, took his time inspecting all aspects of my system and gave me a gentle dose of reality about the health of my 27-year old dinosaur (yes, you read that correctly, 27) but he never pressed the sale. He explained all my options in detail, including just fixing up my old ac. When I finally accepted that a new unit was the way to go, Derek was able to offer finance options that I could live with, both in monthly payment and interest charge. Derek was just awesome! The installation was set up for just two days later. The crew that showed up (Shaun, Peter, and another gentleman whose name I've forgotten. Sorry 3rd guy!) were so polite, friendly and conscientious. They worked for 12 long hours because I also had them move the location of the ac unit. It was hot, dirty work and they ran into some problems with my wiring but I never heard a complaint or negative word from any of them. These guys were so concerned about protecting my already filthy floors and finger-print smudged walls. After their cleanup, I swear the area where they worked looked better than when they came in! The owner, Steve, even came by to help the installation crew figure out some of the wiring problems and gave me the sincerest thank you for using his business. Just wow. These guys are the real deal. They just installed a two stage system in my townhome near Kennedy and Howard. Extremely professional, highest quality workmanship, and a price and warranty that cannot be beat. I did my shopping with other companies and Comfort Authority came in almost 20% under some of the other leading area companies. Every single person I talked to from the first phone call, to the owner, to the technicians who limped me along on my old system and finally installed my new AC was friendly, extremely knowledgeable and professional. It's cheesy, but I'm not joking when I say they are such a pleasure to work with that I want to continue to do business with them even though there isn't much business left to do in my cool house. On his first visit, Steve spent well over 90 minutes explaining how my AC system works (I ask a lot of questions); he showed me the parts and model numbers of the machines he could install; he gave me 5 different price options from basic to all the bells and whistles; and then he said, "Thanks so much for your time, here's my business card. Call me if we are the right company to help you." And then, he was gone. No pestering, no pressure, no "sale ends labor day" speech. That plus the warranty and price on his equipment made my decision easy. Fast forward a few days: The installers left no stone un-turned and virtually every part of my system is brand new - from the drainage system to the electrical work on my roof - all complete,up to code, and professional. The machine is high quality, works like a champ and is extremely quiet. They even vacuumed the floor and cleaned up where they worked when they left. I wish all companies would demand this level of quality- *and customer service*- from their staff and technicians. I wanted to give a 5 Star review and shout-out to the "Boys" and Lady at The Comfort Authority. I was in a pickle without AC and thought I had limited options! The courteous, professional and terrific people at Comfort Authority made the process easy and painless, and talked me Through all the appropriate options. I spoke to Michael and a very sweet Lady (forgive me I do not remember her name) in the office who were just Fabulous, and they got the ball rolling and this adventure started. From the knowledgeable and confident gentleman Derek, who evaluated and diagnosed my problem; to the hard working, problem solving instal team of Juan and Sean, the process was Fantastic! Summers in Florida can be unbearable, and Sean and Juan had a few unique issues to manage and resolve in order to ensure my unit was correctly installed. They went above and beyond to do the job correctly. From showing me the REME Halo system to ensuring the configuration and sealing of the air handler was correct, Sean and Juan were just Wonderful! It was a long day and a big job, but at the end of the day, I had Safe, clean AC with an approved fan speed that fit my needs. The team was responsible, respectful , knowledgeable, kind and cleaned up as they went and ensured everything was tidy before they left. I have only genuine and heartfelt appreciation for all they did. Everyone was more than accommodating, confident, and professional, additionally, they were all sincere and Kind ! Two years ago I had TCA come out to my mother's home in Tampa because her AC died in the middle of summer. Long story short I could not have found a better AC service than The Comfort Authority. On 2/1/22 my AC went down, I called TCA around 8:00 PM, and they responded by 8:00 am the next morning, because our AC died. Granted it's Feburary, but we live in a high rise in downtown Tampa . By 8:00 2/2/22 am the very next morning design consultant Derek Deese had contacted me and was at my home by 9:00 am. Derek came out ASAP and assessed the problem immediately. He took pictures and videos and sent them to his technicians for a quote. Once we agreed on what was needed to be done, he said he would have a service professional out by 8:30 am the next day. At 8:00 am Peter from TCA was on my phone and on his way with Adam. Peter & Adam were BEYOND PROFESSIONAL! They were courteous, kind, and most of all, careful of our surroundings and needs. For lack of a better term.....They worked their F'N asses off to complete the job. We live in a high-rise condominium in downtown Tampa, and they had to go up to the roof and down to our Condo a Dozen times!! Peter and Alex went ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY yesterday, and then some!! When they finished Peter explained everything about the unit to us and the warrantees. If you are reading this then you are like the rest of us trying to find a company that is 1. competent, 2. reliable, and 3. fair priced. When it comes to HVAC, I found out the hard way that is a rare combination in Tampa! For the last 6 months my four year old system had not been functioning properly and would sometimes shut down for hours at a time. The handler and compressor were out of sync and the fan was turning on and off in rapid succession to the point I feared the motor would simply blow up. I had three other companies come out to diagnose the problem and spent about $300 on recommended repairs that didn't fix the issue. At my wits end, I found Comfort Authority on Yelp and Angie's List and emailed them a description of my A/C issues. The company responded to my email right away and James, the owner of the company, actually came to my house personally after hearing I had so many other failed attempts to fix the problem. He was prompt, dressed professionally in uniform, and stepped through a methodical troubleshooting procedure that diagnosed the problem within 15 minutes!! He even identified my overflow switch was installed wrong, along with some bare wires that could have shorted out my system and fixed them on the spot! He took the time to educate me on how the system worked and what he was checking for. It was obvious right away that this guy knows his stuff!! He ordered the part, installed it personally, and my 6-month stressful saga of my malfunctioning A/C system is finally over!! Do yourself a favor ... stop searching and give them a call. Recently we needed maintenance on our home air conditioning unit. Given that it's an older unit, we were concerned about the longevity of the unit and what type of repairs we would be encountering. I came across The Comfort Authority simply by looking up "best air conditioning repair in Tampa"; I thought it might be a long shot, but I'm a firm believer that good reviews go a long way in determining the credibility of a company. I read nearly all of the reviews for The Comfort Authority and gave them a call. From my first interaction with the office staff to our interactions with both of the A/C geniuses, James and Steven, I have been thoroughly impressed. The professionalism, knowledge, honesty, and speed from both James and Steven was remarkable. James performed an annual maintenance check and cleaning. During his time at the house, he addressed an issue he identified. Additionally, there was one follow-up, which is what Steven addressed when he came out to the house. I was at work when James performed the maintenance check, but was home when Steven arrived at the house a couple days later. He absolutely blew away all five of the clearly outlined expectations in the dispatch email that I had been sent prior to his arrival. Steven quickly identified and resolved the issue with our unit and it has been running as intended since then.
