Such an all-around! Atmosphere was comfortable with plenty of seating and the coffee was tasty yum You can also get breakfast/lunch here and would be a good stop to do some laptopping. Near Red-Line North Morse, we parked on a side street and L'd to the city.

Awesome coffee shop in the Rodgers Park area. We had delicious drip coffee, latte and hot chocolate. Their sandwiches are delicious and their menu is great. Loved the vibes in this place.

This is our favorite local coffee shop since moving. We go here frequently and the great service is consistently awesome! The staff are very friendly, as a neighborhood coffee shop they try to remember you, and also very pet friendly. It's cool to see everyone vibe in here! The ambiance of the shop is relaxing, they have a printer in the back, and more space too. Also, prices are great too. Very leveled compared to franchise coffee shops. We also always order croissants. Ordered the chocolate one today but they have almond and also a butter croissant as well. The best part? They sell day old pastries and they taste as good as the fresh ones! If there's a day old croissant we buy them instantly!

Wonderful experience at this hidden gem! Friendly staff, diverse crowd, and delicious coffee! Everything was neat and orderly. The staff was friendly efficient yet quick to keep the busy line of Monday morning patrons moving. Everything is Sparkling down to the cleanliness of the bathrooms. I will definitely visit this hip coffee shop again!!! Oh and the sandwich's are made to order. Definitely worth the wait!

    Yum coffee.

This is my go to spot. I love them. I'm actually about to go and grab my coffee now! I'm a regular and I always feel welcomed when I enter the space. It's a lovely vibe inside and enough seating to relax if needed. The staff is always so nice, the service is efficient, and the cranberry orange muffins are the best. You can't go wrong with CC!

Every time I stop in the service is phenomenal! I always order an iced hazelnut latte with oatmilk and it's so silky & smooth, one of my favorite places to get lattes! The shop is small and cute and even has a few tables if you wanted to stay and work or study.

Beautiful baked goods coming out of this cafe. Banana Walnut Bundt cakes. Orange chocolate chip Bundt cakes. Pair it with top shelf Metric coffee and boom, you're living the good life.

I don't like leaving 3 star reviews especially since the staff has been so kind, warm, and helpful. The store itself is very cute and comfy. The only reason why this place gets three stars for me is because I didn't enjoy the food. (Granted I've only had the iced coffee and muffin). Iced coffee was too sweet and tasted artificial. I was given a straw that kept breaking into a million pieces (I had to get three new straws because the straw kept cracking which was so weird). I had to water down the coffee twice for it to taste ok, but I just came to the conclusion that it just wasn't for me and tossed it in the end. Muffin was so-so. Wish it was a bit warmer and softer. They do have a lot of regulars though, that means they're making other people happy. I think you should still give it a shot if you're thinking about coming by. Next time I'll try something else on the menu that might change my opinion.

First time here!! The customer service is great the employees all have great energy and the atmosphere is chill. The food and coffee was all on point. I had a a flat white and broccoli cheddar quiche. Definitely check this place out and support a local business if your in the area and need that coffee fix.

The americano was nothing special but refreshing on a summer day. The seasonal strawberry matcha was a bit disappointing, due to the lack of matcha flavor (the color was not very vibrant, and the matcha powder itself was likely not super high quality or oxidized) and sweetness. However, I tried the strawberry corn cookie, and it was one of the most delicious cookies I've had. Corn in dessert has been one of my favorites, and the texture of the corn with the strawberry icing to make a sweet and slightly tart summer treat was incredible! Everyone working there was super kind, and if I had more time to hang around, I would definitely bring a laptop and work here.

On our way to class recently, we stopped by The Understudy Coffee and Books for the first time to…read morecheck it out. The coffee shop was bustling and almost full around 12:30 pm. We were lucky to grab the last small round table for two.  The pastry case was only 40% stocked at this point. We were happy that they still had our favorites -- 2 almond croissants ($14 for 2) and a cappuccino ($5 + $0.50 Oat Milk) to go.  The cashier was very friendly, patient, and welcoming. The decor of the store is modern and charming.  There were a variety of seating options, and many customers were working on their laptops while enjoying their drinks, giving the café a cozy yet lively atmosphere. The bookstore occupies about half of the space and features an impressive collection of books focused on drama and theatre.  If you are interested in theatre, this thoughtfully curated bookstore is for you. We noticed a sign indicating that The Understudy partners with Defloured Bakery, which also partners with a long list of businesses, including another coffee shop in the neighborhood that we frequent a lot. We have enjoyed almond croissants and other baked goods at that café very often, they were just as delicious and large, since they were sourced from the same bakery. However, The Understudy charged $7 for an almond croissant, while the other café charged only $4.50 for the exact same pastry. That's a significant price difference. The cappuccino was another slight disappointment. It was only lukewarm rather than hot, although I am not sure whether the oat milk substitution may have affected the temperature. Judging by how popular The Understudy was during our visit, it's clear that many people appreciate its ambiance, curated bookstore, and friendly service. If those qualities are important to you, you may find the higher prices well worth it.

I've been here twice total now, and both times the food has been excellent. I didn't realize this place was pescatarian the first time. I picked the mister grecco panini for the artichoke hearts: It was a little salty due to the olives, but it wasn't overwhelming. I figured the limited hours had something to do with the menu. Now that you all have gotten rid of the DJ table and added more chairs, it does feel more like a standard cafe! I'm looking forward to the menu changes. Thanks for your consideration! Previous review: I really enjoy their beverages and I keep coming back. That being said, there is almost no price transparency. The only prices they have on their menu are for the THC additions. I've mentioned this to the owner twice (he's a cool guy) but he has always sort of shrugged it off. It bothers me every time I'm in. Sometimes my latte with oat milk comes out different prices. Price transparency is so important for consistency . Not including the prices is a bit elitist, especially when the average drink is $6-$8. You should want folks to come in and comfortably order what they can afford. I hope this suggestion is taken into consideration. The drinks are good and like I said, I keep coming back but this has been a sticking point for me for a year plus.
