On another adventure with Jillian, we went to The Congregation, a lovely cafe on the east side. I'd seen photos of it and pictured it as a huge repurposed church. To my surprise, it's smaller than expected, but a very cozy place to relax and enjoy refreshments. The place has a very chilled vibe, and the staff is warm and welcoming. I had a mocha, which is one of the best in town. It was well made with the right balance of coffee, mocha, cream and sweetness. I paired it with a delicious muffin. Tons of outdoor seating when it's warm enough and quite a bit of seating inside with real church pews, wooden flooring and stained glass windows. A lot of natural light. First time here, and the community coffee shop vibe hit me the moment I got out of the car. The cute outdoor seating area faces a playground, and inside it's spacious, quiet, and beautifully designed. The staff were also super friendly, which added to the welcoming feel. I tried the blackberry espresso tonic, which had plenty of real blackberry purée and was refreshing and bright. Really nice coffee shop that's set up inside an old church-looking building! We've come here a couple times to get a coffee and a bite to eat on our way through to downtown Detroit. Their coffees are so delicious and this is the place that hooked us on to getting oat milk in our coffees. It makes it so much smoother! It can get very loud in here on the weekend so be prepared if you're looking for a quiet place to work! But there is wifi to do some homework or other things. This place was so good that I needed to go back even though I was only in Detroit for three days. As soon as I browsed their menu online, I knew this was a must-try. They had such fun and unique specialty drinks like the carrot cake chai, cornbread cappuccino, and Earl Grey matcha. My favorite drink was an iced Earl Grey matcha with oatmilk. My favorite food item was the spiced pear and granola bagel with the vegan cream cheese. All the baristas I got to interact with were very sweet and helpful. There were plenty of seating options both indoors and outdoors. They have their coffee shop menu and cocktail bar menu, although I didn't get to try those - it looked like there were some really good options on that menu as well. There is a pizza place right next door. It looks like they have lots of fun nights scheduled, like Open Mic night on the third Friday of the month and Trivia nights on Wednesdays. I am sure this place is an even bigger hit when the weather is nice. I highly recommend you check this place out if you are a coffee shop lover like me. read more

I had the turkey melt which was spectacular and available in record time! And they were busy! So tasty with kale, tomato, red onion, cheese, and a tangy sauce that kicked it into the "special" sandwich category as in I would make a special trip for it, even from the far east side! I do and always have like this place the food is tasty the coffee is refreshing and the ambiance couldn't be better. Sometimes the place could be cleaner honestly . But the service is nice and it even has outdoor seating areas with a park in eyesight. You look up and see Art for sale all around you, that to me is beautiful. Food: Definitely would recommend trying their wraps and/or sandwiches. -Sandwiches: Tried both the chickpea and beet sandwiches, and they were so incredibly delicious and only $10 each. The whole grain bread they used was perfectly chewy as well. I couldn't believe how good the chickpea sandwich was -- however they made the dressing was phenomenal; the menu said it was balsamic vinaigrette, but I believe there was some fresh dill that completely elevated the taste. -Wrap: We got the Buffalo chickpea wrap ($11, premade grab and go section) warmed up, and again -- simply amazing. -Baked good: The Brookie was soo yummy and vegan; I would have not have been able to tell it is vegan. I really liked it, but it was such a tiny piece for $3.75 that I would hesitate to get it again. Service: Quick and friendly. Ambiance: There's a lot of seats with tables, both inside and at the outdoor patio, as well as some sofas. One of the larger tables has a power strip for your devices. You get free WiFi for 4 hours, and then it kicks you off. Just something to keep in mind if you're planning to work there. This is such a cute coffee shop! An old church converted into a coffee shop and bar. They had an extensive menu. Seating inside and out. Some of the seats inside are old church pews.
