    Delicious risotto
    Katie H.

A friend and I met here for dinner on a Saturday evening. We didn't have reservations but they were able to get us seats on the couch up front. Yes, they have an actual couch with a table for seating...it was a great and unique restaurant experience! We enjoyed our seating and our server was friendly and attentive even though we were up front and away from the rest of the dining tables. I believe their menu changes seasonally but they had several options that appealed to us this time! They have a full bar and mocktail options too (y'all know I love a good mocktail) so I was excited about that. We both ended up ordering the mocking bird mocktail (lemon, cinnamon, pomegranate, and orange blossom water). Our server even asked if we wanted on the rocks or straight up! I went for straight up and my friend did on the rocks and we were both so impressed with how flavorful the drinks were. I have thought about that mocktail several times since! Food wise, we ordered the bread service to share and then the Amish roasted chicken and the risotto. The chicken was huge! The sides with it were good and my friend enjoyed the chicken. The risotto was excellent - corn, mushroom, whipped red bell pepper ricotta...so delicious I ate the whole dish! The four smaller slices of bread were underwhelming for the $8 price point so I would skip that next time. Everything else was well worth it for sure though. Thank you for a great evening, Chartreuse Kitchen & Cocktails!

I went to college right down the street from Chartreuse and somehow never made it in, so I'm really happy I finally did! Chartreuse is such a cute date-night spot. The second you walk inside, it feels cozy and warm. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu and genuinely happy to answer questions, which always makes the experience better. The food absolutely lived up to the atmosphere, everything was delicious. I loved my pasta dish, and the rest of my group cleaned their plates too, which says a lot. Definitely worth the visit, even if it takes you a few years to get there like it did me.

3.5 I really liked the vibe in here and thought the food fit the ambiance perfectly. The 100% homemade aspect, down to the pop, was really cool as well. The food was decent (not anything mind blowing), but the GF alterations along with the service made up for it.

We returned after a great show at the Fisher Theater, and once again, we had the most wonderful dinner experience. The staff is so warm and friendly, the cocktails are some of the best in the city, and the food is just phenomenal. I love their eclectic veggie forward menu. This time, we both ordered The Last Word - I would assume their most popular cocktail - and it's absolutely perfect. We also had the smoked beet salad, which was so flavorful with the nicest hint of smoke and creamy ricotta, and was perfect to share with 2 people. My Mom ordered the veggie gnocchi dish which I'd love to go back for. The most pillowy soft gnocchi and super flavorful veggies and sauce. Delicious. I had the prawns and polenta dish, and it was so tasty and comforting; perfect texture and savory flavor. Yum! I kind of wish I ordered dessert; the chai cake sounded amazing - but that will give me a reason to visit sooner rather than later. It was packed early on a Saturday night, so definitely make reservations for the weekend. Vibey music, fun people, always a great experience.

Yellow chartreuse and a yummy NA cocktail!

Came here for our anniversary dinner and it didn't disappoint! Excellent service, nice vibes (though it was quite cold inside). Food was great overall, here are the deets: - Yellow chartreuse: sweeter than green! If you like more of a bite and more anise flavor, go for green. For sweet, yellow. - Cocktails (NA as well) all seem to be solid - Twice-cooked egg: I understand why this has been on the menu since the beginning. I was sad when there was none left, but one order was good for two people. - Smoked beet salad: a favorite among what we tried. Excellent textures here. - Steak tartare: decent tartare, but the weakest dish of the meal. We were expecting traditional bao (soft bun), but it came with odd, very hard to chew fried dough cracker things. Was not a fan. - Capunesi gnocchi: yum! Loved the crispy garlic and olive additions. Very comforting dish. Know that you can add protein if you'd like! - Kobe short rib: wasn't blown away by this, but it was good! The "pastry" isn't a pastry in the traditional sense, it's kind of like cheez-it things sprinkled along for texture. - German chocolate cake: good! Kind of like a frosted brownie. We liked the candy and nuts topping. Overall a good experience! We'd return to try more of the menu, but I don't think we'd go out of our way to do it.

Nice spot with a chill vibe located in Midtown, stopped in after visiting the DIA. Only grabbed a glass of wine, but enjoyed the wine and spot overall. Will revisit to check out the food.

In town for a residency and performance at the Carr Center and had a few meals at Chartreuse Kitchen. The staff is friendly, service is top notch and the restaurant has a fun and inviting decor. We started with fresh bread and herbed butter and their very popular twice fried egg served over a perfectly dressed frisée salad. Absolutely delicious! Our friends ordered salads, gnudi, pork belly and the quail. We were all pleased with the food and happy with the stellar service. We'll definitely visit again when we're in Detroit!

This is my second visit to chartreuse. The first was a few years ago and the experience wasn't too impressive, but we gave it another try. Dinner and service here were amazing. We got a bunch of seafood dishes, and the seafood was so fresh and delicious. For apps we got French onion soup, beet salad, and crab cakes. For meals we had the branzino, the gumbo and mussels. The flavors all went together so well. Definitely a place to try when in downtown Detroit.

This place was my boyfriend and i's first date spot! We love coming back here for birthdays/anniversaries/ any occasion really! We love the small plate/sharing idea and tend to gravitate towards restaurants similar. This visit was for our anniversary and they went above and beyond! Our servers are always so sweet here and continue to check in on us throughout the meal! We want to come back for lunch one day for the lamb burger!! (we did try a few weeks ago and called ahead of time to make sure we would make it in time and they told us as long as we get there before 2 they would seat us, but when we arrived at 1:45 the door was locked..) upsetting we made the trip down but won't let it change our entire view of the restaurant.

We arrived for lunch at 1:30 and were welcomed!! Our waitress Tara guided us through the menu.. the lunch special walleye sandwich was absolutely amazing. I liked the pork shank and jalapeño grits but when my friend didn't have the face of satisfaction she traded it for the most delicious beef salad that made her smile! Finishing lunch with a taste of chartreuse guaranteed our return for dinner on a different day!

I was quite surprised by my experience at Chartreuse. My overall take is that the food here lacks cohesion and focus. Its trying to be a lot of things but it misses the mark. We started with the bread service which was nothing special, "service" was a stretch as it was nothing more than a loaf of bread & butter with no refills. We then had the twice cooked egg, which was definitely the best dish of the night. It went downhill from there. While eating the egg, I noticed two pork chops were up at the window - I got excited and thought it must be good because others are ordering it. Next we got the fried potato salad. I view this dish more as loaded potatoes. Its a huge stretch to call this a potato salad. The dish had a ton of ingredients in it and it was confusing to eat. No bite was the same, but it didn't feel intentional for that to happen. It felt like a dish you made with all of the things you want to clear out of your fridge. Once we were done with that, our entrees were up. Turns out, the pork chop that had been sitting there for TWO of our courses was actually ours. And, you guessed it, it was cold. Rice was cold, meat was cold. Very surprising that the timing was so incredibly off. The salmon showed promise until I bit into a huge chunk of chili crisp out of nowhere and my palate went white. And I ran out of water for half the meal. We also got a gnocchi, that seriously lacked gnocchi. It was more of a veggie dish. Overall, deeply disappointed with the food, it looks really pretty but looks better than it tastes. I will say, the service was excellent. Our server was knowledgeable and made sure to explain how to eat the weird food which was helpful in trying to understand and go along with the experience. My advice: focus on simplifying.

Flavors to seek out! We had the crab cakes (smoked salmon, crab, whitefish with dill aoli) and Brother Nature salad for apps, and goat shank confit (w/ Israeli couscous and garlic aoli) as a main; Madagascar vanilla pudding for dessert. The crab cakes and confit were not on the menu, but waiter Noah shared them from the kitchen. Nice place for a celebration, or just if you want some REALLY good food. Wait staff went out of their way to make sure we were happy.

I was in Detroit for business and did a quick survey of the restaurants in the area I was staying; Warren. So I expanded my search to Detroit and found Chartreuse on the outskirts in a trendy art district. Easy to get to and ample parking. Once I got inside I knew that I made a great decision to take a little more xtra drive. I didn't have a reservation but the hostess found me a nice spot at the bar. The bartender was cool to talk to and super helpful with drink and food recommendations. They have a nice list of specialty cocktails but I asked for a vesper which is my favorite martini. No problem at all. And perfectly prepared. I went with the twice cooked egg and man oh man there's a reason why this menu item is a permanent resident on their otherwise seasonal menu. Great spot, great food, great vibes.

Nate and I stopped in on our most recent visit to Detroit and had a lovely experience. The space is tucked away but had a surprising amount of outdoor space--we were there in January but I'd love to come back in the summer. We were greeted right away and given a spot near the bar. The menu includes cocktails, lots of wine, and several tasty food options. It was quite busy inside, so it took a bit of time for our server to come over to us, but we weren't in a rush. They had ten cocktails on their list and I tried the bullet proof soul and Nate got the negroni alla perra. The ingredients list for some of the cocktails include things I've never heard of, but at a place like this, I just know it's going to be good. Our drinks were perfectly balanced and very tasty. We also ordered the mortadella sandwich to split--this was delicious. It was pretty messy, but worth it. It was perfectly toasted and full of mortadella. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and I would love to try more of the food options. Can't wait to visit again!

Between the two of us we had the beet salad, burger and steak tartare. Burger was good, but not the best smash burger that I've had. Beet salad was fine, however the cream cheese was a bit overpowering against the orange oil. It was dying for some citrus. Steak tartare was a bit dry, meaning that a small dab of olive oil would have added to the richness and overall mouth feel. I did not really taste the egg although I did see a dab of yolk on the tartare. Needed a bit of salt also to enhance the taste Menu was small, but it did cover a cross section of French bistro dishes. All in all, I thought it was a bit overpriced. So I will have to consider returning for a full meal. I would come back for a burger and beer at the bar.

We had to continuously ask for more water. I tried the espresso no-tini ($11), a mocktail. It was good, but came in cordial glass and was essentially just a shot of chilled espresso. The setas ($14) were listed as a local wild mushroom blend with garlic and lemon. It was probably about a half cup of mushrooms, grilled, and served in a saucer. It needed balance with a soft cheese, spice, or more sweetness. My charcuterie plate didn't come out until about an hour plus after we ordered, after multiple asks. It's hard to justify the delay when it's just hard cheese and meat, they didn't have to cook, and there were few other customers. (Essentially, we forgot).
