Fun, friendly and inviting tap room on the way to or from Julian. Decent selection of local and San Diego beers, ciders and seltzers. Plus bottles to select from. Servers are incredibly friendly and the locals are as well. Family and dog friendly with plenty of games and a huge patio. Definitely worth the stop. read more

Such a fun bar since it is under new ownership! The owner is amazing, and all of the bartenders are always great. A great selection of draft and bottled beer, some local which is super fun! There is a great patio area with a fire pit and comfy chairs, pool and a juke box. There are fun events here like line dancing, painting nights etc. I love it! read more

Stopped in for a beer after a day in Julian, to be greeted by bar tender without a mask. It's been a year now and with the mandatory mask requirements, it's sad to see that a bar is still encouraging a blatant disregard to other people's health. The Cooler is a fun bar with delicious locally brewed beer. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxing. They had shuffle board and pool too! The Juke Box had a good music selection and there is a nice fire pit outside. They don't serve food, but there are great restaurants next door and you can bring food in. The taco shop is just steps away and the food is super good. This destination is a must if you are visiting the Julian area. read more

On our last trip to Julian we stopped in the Cool'r. We were delighted by the craft beer selection. We took our choices to the deck and on some very comfortable lounge chairs we enjoyed our brew while watching the world go by. It was a lovely way to spend a warm afternoon. read more

While driving through Julian, we decided to stop by The Cooler. I'm so glad we did. Great beer selection, EXCELLENT Service. Steven is the best. They have shuffle board and a foosball table to play with while your drink. They also offer tasters of any beer that's on tap for $2. GET IN HERE! Every time we swing through Julian, The Cooler is a mandatory stop. Steven is a super cool New Yorker who is welcoming, funny, honest and open. Talk to him, you'll remember your conversation. At first look the interior is a bit sparse, but I'm sure it can fill up quick. Theres typically a half dozen or so beers on tap, and a crap-ton more in 'the cooler'. Great stuff from big names and small, with several Julian ciders, of course. But WHATABOUTTHEFOOD!? Fare comes from a small Mexican restaurant nextdoor, which is pretty darn good, and well-priced. (Also next door are the restrooms.) If you're visiting Julian for the day or just passing through, avoid the crowds in town and come cool off, in The Cooler. read more

Completely chill and unassuming, excellent selection of beers both bottled and on tap, nice shaded patio outside for those hot summer days, with space heaters for the brisk winter evenings, and it's a bit off the beaten path so it's unencumbered by all the tourism that is annoying about downtown Julian. The proprietor is a very nice lady named Tawnya, she took very good care of me when I was there. Colt's Burger Bar is right next door, they do some great burgers to compliment the beers here. This place is perfect for a small-to-medium size party of friends looking to have some beers and hang out. And apparently they have live music every so often too, which just adds to the great atmosphere and ambiance. I love this place, and I'll be coming here again whenever I roll through Julian. read more

The Cooler is taking over the small building formerly occupied by Mountain Beadworks here in what is called Julian Station, just about 2 west from downtown Julian along highway 78. Believe it or not, this building actually used to be a large industrial cooler, so the name, and function really fit. They will be opening soon and will be a combination bottle shop and tasting room, featuring many local craft beers and the like. I cant wait to stop in here, as right next door they already have tasting rooms from Julian Hard Cider, Golden Coast Mead as well as wine, chocolates, gifts and even a small cafe! read more

Stopped in incidentally while visiting Julian and was greeted by Stuart the owner who was warm and accommodating. The bar is somewhat new and they were just getting all settled in. My husband and I ended up spending a few hours hanging out at the bar; both owners have such great spirits and we had so much fun! From their unique selection of beer/ciders, I fell in love with the Watermelon Hef and we got to try mead for the first time, which was also pretty awesome. Overall, we had a fun and informative experience and look forward to visiting Julian again, even if solely to hang out with this crowd. Don't miss out! read more

What can I tell you about The Cooler that hasn't already been said? It's fantastic place. When we went it wasn't as busy, but man did we get just great service and I think we made a new friend! Steve is AWESOME, funny and charming. He really knows how to make you feel at home and plays awesome tunes (Thanks for the Punk music!) They have great tastings at really reasonable prices. This was a pleasant surprise! Not only do they have a rotating selection of interesting beers, meads and ciders but Steven from NYC is the best! You can tell him what you're looking for an he is happy to oblige with a smile and a quick anecdote to make you smile. They have great catering from his niece's Mexican food truck style eatery which is in the adjoining complex with great prices. There are TVs with whatever game on you'd like and some nice Sinatra background music of course. We almost didn't leave since Steven is the host with the most and so entertaining if I were to open a bar I'd make him an offer he couldn't refuse just to be the main attraction cuz he really makes the place shine! read more

Such a great, unexpected surprise. We were coming back from hiking and lunch in Julian and always try to stop at one of the wineries or small bars that they have, when we stumbled upon this gem! I love it because Julian Hard Cider does not have a true tasting room (yet! They are in production as we speak) but they have a great selection of that, and other local breweries. Small little place and awesome atmosphere and staff! A tad over-priced though for 3 oz pours, I wish I would have gotten the 4 tasters for $8 because both of my 3 oz pours came to $8. I wish I would've gotten the guys first time but we visited on Friday morning and customer service was fantastic! No one was there. So happy to see some "peaceful protests" - my only negative would be to add some space heaters to the outside area as it gets very chilly very quickly!
