Fried Chicken Cordon Bleu with Fries
    Jaison M.

A new sandwich shop has arrived! Born from Rooster & The Chick, this restaurant provides a wide variety of specialty sandwiches. Anything from Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich to Pork Italiano Sandwich. The menu has poultry, pork, fish and beef options. Some pretty unique sides like the Drunken Taylor Fries. I purchased the Fried Chicken Cordon Bleu Sandwich and the Patty Melt with bacon. Also a side of the Nashville Hot Mozzarella Sticks, which I believe are a special right now. Both sandwiches came with fries. I also got a side of herbed ranch, which was delicious. Overall nice experience. Everyone was friendly. Only item that I would have enjoyed more is the Chicken Sandwich. In my opinion it needed more salt or some type of seasonings. A little dry. Again solid place to try and enjoyed the variety of the menu.

Today, my order was a little underwhelming. I'm used to them cooking the steak through, the meat becoming dark, crispy diced shavings that pair well with the melted Cooper. My order today had a slightly undercooked, grey quality to it that also lacked in a good dash of seasoning, even if only salt & pepper. I believe I got a bit less meat on my sandwich than any other time I've been there too. As I mentioned, I believe I just caught them at a bad time or on a bad day because usually, this is the place to be!

I'm a strange dude, I'll be the first to admit to that. I've never been one to like anything that…read moredraws attention from the masses. I never watched Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones because every last loser on earth was all about it. The Beatles fucking suck and Bruce Springsteen can go shit in his hat. Pumpkin spice is for pumpkin pie and that's it, no matter what these dizzy suburban women say. So the decision to visit Johnny Longhots today was based entirely on poor reviews. The guy who ordered a sandwich to the hospital and found a cheesesteak to be "greasy" deserves to contract MRSA during his stay. The dope who complained his fries were soggy ordered his shit off Door Dash. He's lucky the driver didn't eat all of his fries. The folks who called out the teenagers who are getting their first experience working can all get bent. You weren't perfect when you had your first job. Don't forget people like you willingly locked kids in their homes during covid. It's no wonder some of them struggle with social skills and working under pressure. Have a little grace, then eat a bag of dicks for not being patient to them. Don't get me started on that dipshit from Brooklyn. That person who rated the place a one for the soda? I already know who you vote for. Onto the food - the menu is huge. There are a ton of choices with something for just about everyone. There's even gluten free options for those fucking people. There were four or five sandwiches in the running, but it was the Gritty Cheesesteak that ultimately won out on my first visit. And that's a strange decision for me because the Flyers stink and their fans are even worse. They're the worst organization in hockey. Maybe I just wanted fries on my sandwich. Yea - that's it. So the Gritty is a good amount of beef, fries tossed in Old Bay and topped with white cheddar cheese sauce atop a seeded roll. I added fried onions. The sandwich scores higher than the Flyers. I was a fan of the seeded roll which was super fresh. The cheese sauce was tasty and complemented the fries really well. They were super crispy, well seasoned and plentiful. The beef wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was tender and cooked well. All-in-all a good sandwich. The gals up front were attentive and friendly. They took my order quickly. Hats off to the kitchen for getting my food out promptly among the online orders. The place was pretty clean and had a ton of Philly Sports pics on the wall. The music on the radio was some throwback stuff - thank God it wasn't any of that mumble rap shit most kids play these days. Johnny's has a bunch of lunch specials that look worthwhile and a decent value. Locally owned spot worth giving your business to. It's a 4-star review from me that gets bumped to a 5 to spite the mopes who gave it a one.

I understand the owner is a local food veteran so this isn't his first foray in sammich construction. I've seen him working away on the few trips I've made so far. The inside kept the same basic footprint of the subway, but the walls are now decorated with large iconic pictures of our beloved sports teams and a few booths were removed to make room for deli takeout equipment. A large deli meat case now sits smack in the middle where the fixins/sandwich prep area of the Subway used to be and a classic pickle barrel is seated to the side of it. Their front window and menu advertise that they roast their own beef, pork and turkey. Their seeded and non seeded rolls are made by Corropolese. So far I've tried three of their offerings: Hot Roast Pork - slow roasted to perfection with gravy (long hots extra). I had it with sharp provolone. They toast the roll and all in all it was a good sandwich that wasn't too sloppy. Hot Turkey - slow roasted (we roast our own) choice of american, provolone, swiss or cooper sharp cheese. Had it on a seeded roll, not bad, but I was expecting thicker cuts of turkey. To me it just came off like deli meat slow roasted with gravy on top. Old Italian Hoagie - sharp provolone, Genoa salami, capicola, pepperoni, roasted peppers, topped w/ peppered ham. Seeded roll. The roll was fresh, the meats were each double layered and the roasted peppers were a nice touch. I would pay extra (and I hope they push it more or make a new variant) to add the extra sharp provolone. The cheese needs a bit more of a bite/presence to make this sandwich shine. Don't get me wrong it's a decent hoagie, but I need more bite. The peppered ham is a welcome addition and provides some punch. Examining their hoagie menu I see no prosciutto. Maybe it'll come in the future (hint hint) :) .... I'd be a huge fan of a mix of meats that included some along with extra sharp provo. The portions are fair as are the prices. Small for most Hoagies are $7.50 large between $8.75-$9.75. The specialty sandwiches will run you a buck or two more than the large hoagies. They also have "farm to table" fresh salads that I'll be trying as well as wraps. I wish these guys luck in Penndel (unfortunately they have it spelled as Pendell) and hope they grow into a staple sandwich maker in the area. They have a good product and the people working there are very kind and friendly so it's easy to root for them to succeed!

He took over and remade a former Subway, bringing full delicatessen sensibility and local color to a commercial zone that really needed a bright coat of paint. Johnny was on hand to take my order yesterday and introduced himself. I got the short story version of his colorful restaurant history, and I realized that I had eaten in his former place on Brownsville Road a few times and enjoyed it tremendously. My expectations rose accordingly. The large front window sign proclaimed the roast beef, turkey and pork were all roasted on site. Good enough suggestion to order a large Roast Beef Hoagie (w provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, hot pepper hash and sweets) on a handsome sesame seeded long torpedo roll. Wrapped tight in white, and our conversation concluded (after sampling the tortellini salad), I drove home to open it up on the kitchen table. First glance at the stuffed sub and my salivaries exploded. It was visually compelling. First bite confirmed that it all worked together perfectly to tantalize my tastebuds. It was a tremendous chomp and chew. Excellent crustiness, followed by folded layers of pink roast beef, provolone and all the rest. This was a mouth party to beat the band. Texture and flavor combined to have me close my eyes and savor the moment. I managed to eat about a third of it, and rolled up the remainder for later enjoyment and family sharing. Deli Fresh is the real deal for Italian style deli delights. They even have a pickle barrel for those who love cukes soured in brine. Its time is now.
