I have never felt so humiliated in a store as I did at this Goodwill location in East Ridge. This happened on 4/29/26 in late morning/early afternoon. My husband is in his 60s, a stroke survivor, and relies heavily on a cane. He has difficulty speaking and sometimes gets confused, so he needs a little extra time to communicate and understand. What happened here was the exact opposite of the patience and understanding anyone would expect from a charity that prides itself on being "inspired by compassion for the poor, sick, and disabled." A cashier named Helen told him the senior discount was 25%. My husband said that he had been told at a different location just a couple of weeks ago that it was 40%. Instead of showing an iota of empathy or patience, and try to help my husband understand, she repeatedly talked over him. He wasn't upset--he was trying to get his words out, which is already difficult for him. Her tone was incredibly loud and rude. Then, she volunteered to call the manager, Jeremiah, like she was bringing in back up. Which I suppose she was because he was no better--if anything, he was worse because he was the manager and should have tried to de-escalate Helen's irritation and the situation in general. Instead, just like his employee, he also talked over my husband repeatedly, didn't allow him to finish a sentence, and showed ZERO patience or empathy. To the point that my husband was reducing to asking, 'Can I please finish my sentence?' multiple times and was ignored while Jeremiah kept talking over him. It was impossible for my husband to communicate at all. We were calm the entire time. No threats or yelling. Not even any foul language. Yet instead of showing any understanding toward an elderly, disabled man who may have simply been confused, we felt completely attacked. When my husband tried one more time, "Can I please finish my sentence?" - We were then told that if we didn't leave, we would be escorted out. Imagine a disabled man in his 60s, barely able to walk with a cane being forcibly escorted out of a Goodwill of all places because he was misinformed on the senior discount! The entire exchange, from start to finish, lasted only a few minutes. We left quietly--but the experience was deeply upsetting and humiliating. No one deserves to be treated this way. This was not just poor customer service--it was openly rude, dismissive, and lacking in basic human decency. What makes this even more troubling is that this experience is completely at odds with Goodwill's stated mission to support individuals facing barriers to independence. Again - If this is how employees are trained to treat disabled customers in their stores, how are vulnerable individuals treated behind the scenes when they come to Goodwill for help?

The only thing I didn't like was the baked goods. I purchased a sourdough. It had caraway which is similar to rye and I do not like rye. I did however like the croissants I purchased but on the flip side the five cookies were meh. So more was bad than good. The other vendors I purchased from were wonderful. Eggs, bone-in pork chops, ground beef , dog treats (chicken claws) three types of greens, arugula, Bibb and romaine, and a frozen chicken were some of the things I purchased. I did notice only one vendor had fruit, strawberries, which sold out quickly. The next time I go I hope there is more to choose from. I will definitely return.

As I started making a pile of them for a school play, the lady brought me a buggy. The sweet cashier even gave me a discount for buying 18 of them. Pop's and Granny's Saved the Day and the Play! I wish my photo of the store didn't turn out so blurry. I may drive back over there after the play to show the folks how they helped all the kids look good. :D

(The video online really doesn't do it justice -- you just have to experience it.) I had some old DVDs & VHS tapes in my car that I was hoping to unload (again, not expecting much), only to be so pleasantly surprised. The manager, Paul, turned my two boxes around in a hurry while I shopped. (Both Paul and his wife Michelle and all of the staff were very, very welcoming and helpful in a most genuine way.
