I've been craving some smoked meat sandwiches. And This place has it. I ordered a Reuben for dine-in and a smoked meat poutine for takeout. Firstly the Reuben had a very nice flavour profile with the sauce and the sauerkraut But The smoked meat tasted bland and it was too soft. Which was confirmed in the smoked meat poutine I had for takeout. The smoked meat seemed borderline raw and too soft. There was no bark or crust on the edges. Too bad. Service was attentive though. We came here on a Saturday night and had no problem getting a table. The menu had more options than I expected including seafood, burgers, platters, wings, breakfast items and desserts. But most people come for the deli sandwiches. There's a good selection of meats, sizes, types of bread and condiments. I got the Montreal smoked meat on an onion bun with french fries. It was big enough that I took half of it home. The taste was excellent. The french fries were just the right crunchiness. There are long wooden tables with stools that can accommodate large groups. There are also booths and regular tables. The décor is unique, with lots of old black and white framed photos on the walls and old-fashioned fuel pumps. The service was very good. A few months ago, I had bought a Groupon and needed to use it fast. I have learned to not leave using them until a week before they expire. I have been to its location in Aurora in the past without a Groupon and loved it. I decided to give this one a try. I went after work on a Friday night. The Corned Beef House is in a small plaza with a few eateries. Parking was not an issue. I parked and walked in. I waited at the counter to place my order. A couple visiting from the States was ordering food to go. When it was finally my turn, the helpful, friendly woman asked whether I was getting food to dine in or take out. I said both, which was an answer that she wasn't expecting. My Groupon consisted of two deli sandwiches and two orders of fries. I wanted a sandwich and fries to eat in the restaurant, and the other set to go. She then understood. I also ordered a Diet Coke, which came in a bottle. I found a table and sat down. The woman brought the Diet Coke to me. It was nice and cold. This place serves breakfast. I would love to give it a try someday. I liked the feel of the restaurant, which is similar to its Aurora location. I ordered the Montreal smoked meat sandwich to devour immediately. I ordered the corned beef one to take back home. My meal came over roughly fifteen minutes later. You get a generous amount of meat in the Montreal smoked meat. I asked for honey mustard in it and it was heavenly! I got it on light rye bread. Yum! The fries were okay. I'm not a huge fries person to begin with. There were a lot of them. I should have ordered gravy! I was pleased that they had the skins on. I got my corned beef sandwich and fries to take home. I dropped off the fries that evening when I had visited my parents. My dad had a craving for fries and he inhaled them on the spot! I had the corned beef sandwich for breakfast. It also had honey mustard and a generous amount of meat ,all between two slices of light rye bread. It was delicious once I warmed it up. Bread is cut way too thick IMHO making the entire sandwich end up being somewhat bland because the taste of the meat is lost in the bread Numerous mustard choices which was great and always a good thing at a place that serves deli. The wait staff was also extremely nice. But unfortunately, the taste and the meat just don't hold up to what I remember it being back when this restaurant was downtown (or a very similar restaurant with the same branding). If this is the only thing in the area for you then it isn't bad per se just boring and bland and if you have the option to go elsewhere for your deli meat then I would recommend going there but this is a nice, basic place to get fresh food. read more

What a great find! A hidden gem located on a plaza in Thornhill. We were visiting from Los Angeles and this place was recommended to us. This is some real good place, I just tried it for the first time today. The restaurant's interiors are funky, trendy and modern, with some nice music playing in the background setting just the right ambiance. The place was not busy, about 4 tables of medium size groups, however, there was one poor girl running around the place. She did what she can with her full capability, but the place certainly needs more staff. I ordered a couple of salads, a half pound of corned beef and a couple of soups. I noticed this restaurant when I was ordering from Sofram last week and popped in for a take-out this week. The restaurant is neat and clean. Their sign outside also looks unique and is not the standard nondescript board. Amazingly, they claim their first location was in downtown Toronto in 1978. Too bad they are located in yet another strip plaza with all the personality of a wet sponge. Whatever happened to side-walks and shops? They offer Montreal Smoked Meat, Schnitzel, Chicken, Vegetarian and of course Corned Beef sandwiches. I have been looking for a place to go instead of Centre Street Deli since they hung a photo of themselves and the foreign spy and agent Harper and was hoping The Corned Beef House works. They offer sandwiches, burgers, platters, dine-in and take-out. A platter is a sandwich, fries and and some coleslaw and is about $23 (they call it something like $22.95). A sandwich is $12 approximately. I had a platter of corned beef and Montreal Smoked Meat to go because dining in is a no-no. As well, tips are stupid and tell the customer 'our price is not the price' and 'we do not pay our employees a living wage.' Both meats were quite good. It is not Montreal. It is Thornhill of course, but it is not bad at all. The quality and taste were there, the bread was fresh (I had one rye and one marbled rye chosen thin) and felt the same with fries. The latter was of the hand-cut variety. It is nifty that they offer bread, size and mustard options to diners. The fries themselves were nothing special and probably slightly under-fried, but that may be a question of preference. The pickles - half a large pickle with each sandwich - were packaged individually, which was considerate of them. The sole real disappointment was the mustard. Again packed in its own container the mustard reeked of vinegar, which is always a bad sign. Good mustard is more mustard and less vinegar and dye, etc. I always look to buy mustard whose first ingredient is 'mustard.' This may be a place I would return. What an experience! This place was recommended by our friends so we came to try it out. The food is nothing like we tried before. Burgers are unique and so flavourful! Me and my husband had the old fashioned burger with Montreal meat on top of the patty inside the onion bun plus potatoes. OMG! So good!!! One of my kids had pulled pork poutine and the other one had club burger. Everybody enjoyed the restaurant, the food and the cool design so much! Came to this location of The Corn Beef House courtesy of a Groupon deal - $10 for a sandwich and fries. I've never been to this location or the other ones either. The value of the deal itself is not bad. The restaurant is actually quite neat looking with a chic retro feel to it. Near the cash area they have an old gas pump to enhance the ambience. I naturally ordered a corned beef sandwich given the name of the restaurant. When ordering you get a choice of bread (ordered marble), select thickness of the bread (ordered thin) and a choice of mustard (ordered Dijon). I ordered takeout but was super hungry so I started chowing down in my car. The amount of corned beef is quite generous and you would expect that in this type of deli sandwich place. Eating became a problem right away as the sandwich started to fall apart really quickly. Three factors contributed to the deterioration of the sandwich: 1) they smoudered too much mustard on the sandwich, 2) they shouldn't allow customers to choose a thin slice of bread and 3) if they are to do thin slices then toast the bread. The taste of the sandwich in general was ok but nothing special. The big issue came when I took a bite out of the fries. Again the portion of fries was very generous however it was inedible. It's super hard to mess up anything made with potatoes especially fries however they were able to achieve this near impossible feat. The fries had a very bad after taste to it probably due to their lack of effort to replace the oil. I would expect a greasy Chinese restaurant to make this kind of mistake but not at a place like this. Had it not been for the groupon it would probably be even worse of an experience. Ironically I probably wouldn't have ended here had it not been for the groupon. I guess it's a bit of a double edge sword. From the managemenr side I think this is a very fixable problem. I have to say their Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich was amazing and their fries were perfect almost like chip truck fries. The service was top notch, fast and efficient. Had the Montreal Smoked Sandwich (Huge size - they have 4 sizes and this was the 2 second smallest). The Huge size is 7 oz and asked them to make it on light rye bread. Food was great, sandwich was warm (and huge) and the side of fries was enough for 2 people. The fries were hand-cut - excellent. One star off was for the wait. I am glad I went to this location before seeing the reviews. What I experienced and what I tasted is one of the most amazing and pleasurable experiences I've had in a long time! The server was happy to answer my questions and I ended up with a collaseul reuban on a keiser with hot mustard. The meat was so flavorful. The amount of sauerkraut and mustard was perfect. Enough to taste the extra, yet the meat was extremely tender and juicy and steaming hot and not running and messy with water or juices... I NEVER HAD A SANDWICH PERFECT LIKE THIS! I didn't even eat I'm in the restaurant. I had it to go, take out! However, the restaurant is clean, full of vintage and antique accessories and style. The combination of the two go well together. There is also so many choices of beer on tap! Forget the fast food outlets and get some real food. Also, a great choice than pizza or anything else you like to ho for a meal or quick bite! Got a sandwich + side combo for takeout. The fries were extremely crispy. After a 20 mins ride home I can still taste the crunchiness of the fries. And the paper bag wasn't soaked by oil. The food was ok...nothing to rave about. I had placed an order through Uber eats. The estimated delivery time was stated at the beginning of the order however I kept receiving notifications from the restaurant that they are running behind because they are busy, the fact that it took them almost an hour to start to prepare my order was was disappointing. All customers should be treated equal and orders should be processed accordingly to the time they were placed. I felt my order was put aside because I wasn't physically at the restaurant and ordered online. If I wasn't there they can't hear me complain right? Well after waiting over an hour the order finally arrived...the sandwich was a mess and just sloppy and the fries were cold. I mentioned this on my review on Uber eats and the restaurant's response was "it's Uber, not us" this was completely untrue as I watched the entire process of the order in progress, preparation and delivery.
