Just a great goddamn bar. Many an afternoon I've sat here when I was unemployed nursing $1 (!) steins of Old Style and watching the Cubs. Minus one star when they changed owners, changed names from one of the all time best (Rich's First One of the Day), added taps, and lost some amazing stuff from the wall (I miss the goat's head Old Style sign and the Blatz clock). That being said, you really can't go wrong with this place. Great to while the way the hours, and only break a 10. As an added bonus, for late night boozers, the sell beer out of the old wooden coolers behind the bar. read more

The perfect little neighborhoody joint that will hopefully remain unknown to the general public. I first started coming here years ago when my friend lived across the street, but recently returned with my female and canine companions. It's extremely cozy and surprisingly clean for an aged dive off the main drag. They are equipped with treats for their canine visitors and serve free food for Bears games! Major props for that. Heed warning, however: canine curfew is 10:30 p.m. and they will enforce it on you, despite the bar not being at full capacity. Also, the non-crap beer tends to get a little pricy compared to other similar joints. Still, all in all a fun little place to relax and have a few dranks. Another star due to this being the first stop of one of the tamale guys (blue cooler), so his food is still piping hot and fresh! read more

Im a fan of small dive bars and this place fit the bill. Im an out of towner visiting Chicago from Tampa, FL but felt right at home at this establishment. Friendly and humorous bar staff made me feel very welcomed and was quick to pour my next round. It was trivia night which turned my potential one hour visit into a 3 hour visit. This place is great. The staff is so friendly, and that's really important, you know? So cheap. $1.50 PBR pints everyday, $6 full sized pitchers. They usually have Jameson for $3 on special or something equally as great. Its Clean Its Dog Friendly The Staff is Stellar The Juke Box is stacked with great music (lots of classic rock and a couple 80s/90s throw back albums), otherwise there are two big TVs and they'll put something sweet on. Don't think I can say much that hasn't been said in the other five-star reviews. Great neighborhood place, friendly atmosphere, stand-up dudes behind the bar. Very nice, eclectic jukebox. Love the dogs people bring in on slower nights. Just a great place to chill, no pretentions. The epitome of neighborhood bar! I have been in here a couple of times now and love it. I am originally from a small town and this place reminds me of local bars back home. Great atmosphere, cheap beer, and sports almost always on. I watched the US world cup game against Ghana and I got to know one of the co-owners, Linda, who was awesome to talk to. She even ended up giving me a drink on the house. Next to. Me during the game was a woman and her husband who travel from the Ukranian Villafe to The Corner because the love the place so much. She even invited my wife and I to her 4th of July celebration. Another big plus is the location. It's not on a major street but set in amongst all the residences in a quiet area. Just a great bar! They are also having a barathon on the 24th for a Susan G Komen fundraiser. If you love dive bars you should sign up. read more

I really enjoy going to this bar every time I get a chance while I am home on leave. The bar staff and most patrons are friendly. Throw in the dogs that walk around that you can pet! Awesome is right. This bar brings out the extrovert in people which, even in Chicago I find bars to be so typically Midwestern, read: passive-aggressive and only for dates or outings with friends. I mean, who goes to a bar all by themselves (you must be a crazy person) to socialize with uh, you know, people? The Corner Bar is cozy, it's cheap (Hamm's is over $1 cheaper than the bar around the corner and I live in MN where Hamm's originates from, but stay away from the Goose Island Green Line which is over $5 and just OK), and the patrons and bartender were friendly: what more do you need? I'd be a regular if I lived in Chicago and if that were the case I could also find out why one guy knew what an old man's sweaty crotch tastes like to use it as the description of malort. I just think it tastes like those scratch and sniff books from childhood, but boozy, although I've only ever had two shots of the stuff over a year apart. I'll also 100th the dog-friendly factor: there was a well-behaved dog (black lab?) that was chilling in the bar and even though I never owned one I supported her/his right to relax in a bar with owner in tow. read more

i've been here once, but am planning many many returns. the people are great, the bartender is super friendly. offered to be our bowling coach (don't ask), and the pitchers are unbeatable. the amazing high life sign in the middle of the bar is more than worth the trip alone. read more

This is a great low-key place to grab a cheap beer. Of course they have Old Style always on special, but even a Guinness will only run you about $4....way cheaper than anywhere else in Bucktown! Everyone is really friendly and there are a lot of fun music selections on the jukebox. read more
