This is by far one of the chillest spots I've been to in Sunnyside in a long time. I can't believe I used to walk past this place and never went in. We strolled in on a brisk Saturday night. We got lucky because karokee is held there on Saturdays. If you're with a big group, I recommend sitting in the front area because there is a big table. The big table is right next to the bar, which is perfect. The price for the night was only like $50 and was way cheaper than other bars I've been to in the past few years. The bartenders were extremely nice. The drinks were pretty strong, and wow, the green tea shots were delicious. ::bathroom alert:: This place has two stalls in the women's bathroom. Only 3 people can fit in the bathroom at once. The sink is in the corner and super tiny. You may have to wait outside the door instead of in the bathroom because everyone is friendly in the bathroom when they are drunk. Unfortunately, there isn't any food at this bar. But the good news is that there was a taco truck right outside. You're able to bring the food into the bar, which is a huge plus. But damn those tacos are delicious. This is definitely a great place to come with a group or to come with a date if you're on a budget. read more

We had the room held for a bachelor party and everything was top notch here. Food delivery was timed perfectly and came out amazing taste wise. Staff was super accommodating with extra features for the room such as connecting a computer to their TV to run videos and games from the big screen. The room is cozy and we were given many ways to adjust the layout so every guest was accommodated for. Staff was quick to respond to any requests and drink refills were plenty. Would highly recommend this place especially if you need a venue for an upcoming event for around 15-20 people or so. read more

I've tried to give this place a chance but I don't think it'll ever redeem itself. the food quality isn't up to pare with a typical sports bar and the bar is somehow not it. During my last visit, I went to go watch a game since football is back. I met with a die-hard Ale's fan and decided to give it a try after 5+ years. The waitress herself did what she could but perhaps she was overwhelmed by the amount of tables because she wasn't touching tables as often as she should have. First, I asked for a skinny margarita (apparently the bartender couldn't make that), so I decided to go with the infamous Sam Adam's Oktoberfest...it felt like the perfect moment, since it's only back for a limited time...the beer was flat. I couldn't find my waitress in time, so I just ended up drinking it but nowhere near as excited as I usually am. Then I asked for a tequila mojito and they were somehow able to do that.... the waitress had said that the real reason she couldn't serve me the margarita was because it was pre-batched... ( I just had to ask). I also wasn't going to go back and forth, so I left it at that. The food we ordered was alright, just a burger, so nothing crazy. The Courtyard Bar is the consummate neighborhood bar. Though small and narrow, it's one of the few versatile Irish bars that can be a quiet place to play board games one night to enjoying a Giants game another night. On occasion they'll have live musical acts here or soccer viewings - you just never know what kind of a night you'll get here. The recent renovation has given the bar a nice face lift, one that makes the place super inviting and looking very spiffy. Happy hour is rarely dull or crowded. The drinks are of average pricing, but nothing is too expensive here. Since they don't offer food, I've seen folks bring in tacos from the Tacos El Vagabundo (http://www.yelp.com/biz/tacos-el-vagabundo-sunnyside) truck, happily feasting away on drunk food while downing a pint. There's nothing like a burrito and a pint of Guinness, late night breakfast of champions. Whenever they have live bands, the place can get crazy loud, it may be best to keep the drinking action toward the front to avoid the cluster of people. Service has always been nice. The bartenders know how to make a stiff drink (especially upon request) and have a great sense of humor. Great happy hours and a good environment for a drink after work or to hang out with friends. It's our go to place for after work or the end of the night. The staff are nice enough, and the cocktails are very good for what at first look appears to be a pretty standard Irish pub. They have a large selection of beers, even some hard to find ones, but beware because some of the less common ones may have expiration dates far in the past. It's a standard bar on Queens Boulevard. On the plus side, they have a pretty decent beer list. On the con side, they don't serve food. Another pro? They have Happy Hour all week. You can get a decent mixed drink for $5. Not bad. Just don't expect too many beer offerings on the Happy Hour menu. The bartender we had on this particular day (Saturday) was alright. Been here only once and I'm a fan of this bar already. They allow you to bring food in, And conveniently parked in front is a Taco Truck (Taco Vagabundo). There was a live performer in the back strumming his guitar and singing the night away. We had our own party in the front of the bar. The bartender I was talking to (Patrick) was very friendly and I even spoke to him about maybe running some scrimmage games in the future with his bar sponsored softball team. Even after some people got too twisted after the night was over (Won't name any names), he offered some glasses of free ginger ale to help her.. or him feel better lol There were also plenty of beers on tap that I would like to come back and try. The crowd is a mixture of different ages, races, and sexual preferences. Everyone there is there to drink, talk, and have fun. Some nights there are live bands. Once a year they have their version of American Idol called Sunnyside Idol. Competition is fierce and the talent is amazing. They have board games, books and tv on the nights there is no live entertainment. They hire good solid bartenders that mix a good drink and pour a good Guinness. They have a selection of beers that should please most people. Courtyard also makes an alcoholic mango drink that is like crack. You drink it way to fast and always want more. That is a special drink that they don't always have but is well worth it. Their prices are good This is an old-school NYC bar there is no table service. So don't sit down and expect someone to come over. Go to the bar. Half of the people in the bar are neighborhood crew. Some of them banned from other bars in the neighborhood. As long as they keep behaved the bartenders let them stay. Underage drinking is frowned upon so if they aren't sure they don't let you drink. Drugs are frowned upon which is amusing because the neighborhood nickname for the place is coke yard. The back has a smoking section that closes at 2am. There is no food but like all NYC bar you can order in if you want. OR better yet the best taco truck in nyc is in front of CY until they sell out. And the neighborhood has a few late night places to choose from. Overall the drinks are cheaper than some of the other places in Sunnyside. There is a mixture of people. I don't even know where to start on much this place has let me down. I have been living in this area for 6 years and everytime I walk in front of this place, I get cat called or approached by its clients and staff. There have been many times that a drunk client (/group of clients) has tried to touch me or block my way while walking on the street. The staff doesn't hold back either with their staring or catcalling. The worst part is when I walk with my roommate' daughter (who is CLEARLY a teenager and a MINOR) and she gets stared at and catcalled by middle aged men. Of course you cannot control your clients or their actions, but this just tells you about what kind of people come to and work at this place. Sunnyside is a safe area and I never get treated like that in other parts of the neighborhood. Despite the catcalling, I tried to give this place a try because I thought the place could be better than its clients. I was wrong (I mean what was I expecting lol). I came here with a friend some time ago and the alcohol that was served made us throw up all night (it tasted funny too). Not sure what we were served but it was definitely not good. We gave it another shot a few months later. Me and my friends were all clearly over the age of 21, but upon showing our IDs we were told that only New York State IDs are accepted ?? What kind of a place only accepts customers who have a NY ID?? When we asked to speak to a manager, people of my friend group were then called racial and and homophobic slurs. So, to recap the experience: alcohol that makes you throw up, racial/homophobic slurs + catcalling and harassment by the staff and clients and you cannot purchase anything without a NY state ID. Stumbling into Courtyard after a brutal day at the office has become a regular thing for me throughout the years. Even wearing your most grumpiest of faces and most beat up attire, no one is going to judge you here. Pull up a seat at the wooden bar or one of the benches/booths towards the back and make yourself at home. Although I no longer live in the area, this will forever be my neighborhood bar. Why? - The bartenders are always friendly and quite generous with buy backs - You can bring in your own food (as long as you clean up after yourself) - The Taco Vagabundo's truck is conveniently outside after 8pm. - Crispin Cider on tap! - Official growler refill station and beer flights - Although the outdoor space is not much of a patio it's a bit of "fresh air" where us smokers can carry on with our dirty habit This isn't some hip destination bar. It's my place to wind down and walking in is like coming home to a welcoming smile and a drink already poured and waiting for you. The familiar faces you see here regularly will make the effort to say hello to you as well. With the $5 whiskey + sodas, 25 beers on tap, plus the buybacks, I can inexpensively get sloshed during any night of the week and smell like whiskey and shame the next morning. read more

Buch of friends end up Saturday night here! It was packed and it was fun! We asked the bartender to switch one of the TV's to US Open re-run on ESPN to watch Serena and he switched without a problem. We watched tennis had beer made new friends! Awesome place & it's one of the most popular pubs in Sunnyside! I've been here a few times since it is close to my house and therefore a great candidate for going-into-the-city lethargy. Also good for "all the trains are fucked" kind of weekends. I don't like scenes, and I am so not a leather banquette type of girl, so this place is great. However, the beer selection is a tad lacking and so is the atmosphere. I mean, a place can be kitschy, kooky, full of old, neighborhood types who were here before the Latin migration waves, etc. and whatever, but a bar has to have something about it for me to appreciate. And I know the Courtyard is not directly at fault here, but something completely unexpected and veeeeerry unsavory has happened to me each time I've entered its hallowed halls. Therefore, I tend to avoid this place and much prefer the Gaslight a ways up Queens Blvd. However, for convenience, the Courtyard is great. It's located right off the 7 train at 40th and Queens. For EXTRA convenience, there is a liquor store next door. So you can go to the Courtyard for a drink and hit the liquor store for the road. read more

I get a beer and a gin tonic for less than $10 bucks. 0_0 YEAH. That's right. I can't use my credit card to pay for (2) drinks here cuz I don't meet the minimum. And THAT is why i act like such an ass on weeknights/weekends. THAT is why i shout loudly at the taco truck. THAT is why i bust down the doors of BK yellin double doubles!!. THAT is why i pissed "YOLO" in the parking lot under the bridge. THAT is why i got thrown out of Gallaghers and Pete's Diner. Plus the ambience is good, bartender is friendly with the irish brogue: "what'll ya be haaaavin?" And the selection of beers is TOP NOTCH. They got IPAs, they got Ciders, they got the darkest brews, the pumpkinest brews, micro brews all that! And the GROWLERS - Do what i Do- plank down $25 and get a GROWLER (64oz jug- yours to keep and refill) of your fave beer (FOUNDERS!!) and proceed to juke box. Put $5 worth of Foo Fighters and walk down the bar and get.. in.. everyone's...FACE shouting "GROWL FOR GROEHL!!!" good times good times. This was a cute little bar not far away from the 40th street stop in LIC. Several beers on tap with a full bar behind them. Notables on taps was Crispin Cider and a vast selection of Founder's beers. There were a few TVs throughout the bar as well, so it's a good spot to come catch games. There is no food served here, but you're able to bring in whatever food you want. In the back there is also a selection of games (i.e. scrabble, jenga). Bring some friends, bring some food, stay for beer and games. read more

It's raining and in order to get into Manhattan you have to take the train to Woodside and transfer---nah. I'd rather come here to this great neighborhood bar. It so 'hood, I wouldn't be surprised if you ran into one of the Koroskov brothers! Except, for the two what I would have assume were Russian guys based on accent and speech patterns sitting extremely within elbow space of where I was eating and talking just as invasively next to and behind me. The second guy had a few elbow brushes on my back from being so close. I wanted a massage not a elbow rub. Then during the course of the night a black dude stepped up to me asking me how much the drinks were as if I worked there. I kindly muttered how much my drink was and showed him the drinks menu so he can order. He "kindly" said "oh no I'm good", laughed and sat at the high top table directly behind me and watched me eat as the NYK vs. CLE game played on the tele. WTF? Weirdos come out at night. Never again on a Thursday that's for sure. There was live Irish folklore music playing and I do believe this is standard on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Nice touch. Unlike the creepers I encountered. Were they trying to pick me up? Were they just being friendly? Clearly, I need to change my style because it brings all the boys (men) to the yard. 1 Matt Damon clean shave will solve that. I ordered the Delirium Tremens which is highly regarded among beer drinkers. I didn't like it as much as I hoped especially reading so much about the light fruity taste when it hits your palate. I did get this weird I can't put my finger on taste which was neither good or bad. This beer even comes in its own branded snifter glass which was pretty neat. Similar to what you have when you order a Stella Artois at a REAL beer bar. No gold rim though. I also ordered a Samuel Adams Merry Maker in which the taste can be described in one word... RICE. Like going to an Asian person's house and that rice aroma hits your nostrils...yeah like that but in your mouth. Ugh. Definitely was not the best choice of beer. Unless you are into that smell/taste. I am not. Come for the live tunes, good prices on beers, and bring your own food policy with alcohol purchase. Try for a weekend though. It might be more lively. read more

Fourth year to visit Sunnyside. Courtyard is a staple and the go to on Thursday and Friday night. Jukebox is great and bartenders are awesome. Quick service, never in bad mood. They have cards, board games, jenga,always fun. Unassuming on the outside, great neighborhood bar inside. Long bar and has an enclosed courtyard in back for smoking. On St Pat's, there's no neighborhood better to be in than Sunnyside, and that's just a fact. We swung by here on our own mini pub crawl through the hood and ended up staying for quite some time! Th crowd was great, the owner was super nice, the bartenders were slammed but very efficient, and the music was amazing! There was a chick with a fiddle and a guy with a guitar and it was just plain amazing what they managed to pull off just like that! I am also super excited by the little patio out back, apparently if you have a party there they have a grill and you can use it as much as you like! Whoa! I'll keep this review short and sweet. From the outside this place looks small, but looks can be deceiving. Once you're inside you realize it stretches way back. The beer selection is pretty amazing, having things from Ommegang to Lagunitas IPA to good ol' Bud Light - many of them are so cheap (around $5.50?) that I'll feel cheated everywhere I go from now on! I think I was there for 3 acts and they were all pretty good, but I really wasn't there for the tunes. The crowd was a mix of young and old locals. They have the regulars on tap and in bottles (one exception is that they had Cooper's!). I switched to Bud Light after I noticed the buyback scheme. Love it, buybacks not Bud Light... Decent neighborhood joint to go for a few or a few too many with friends. Also, after 10pm there is a taco coach that parks on the corner right outside. The crowd there ranges from union workers to Irish to...almost anyone. The bartenders are super friendly Two ares for improvement: -There are some good bottled beers, but I wish they had better beers on draft. -It can get kinda shady after 10PM on the weekends.
