WIN 356! I defeated the 12-Egg Omelette Challenge at The Cracked Egg, in Laurel, Montana. Contestants have 30 minutes to finish off a dozen egg omelette, along with 2-3 pounds of hashbrowns. For the omelette, you can choose either double meat, or 1 meat + 1 vegetable, & cheese. I chose rib dip, baby spinach, & Swiss cheese. Rib dip is shredded beef. I took my last bite, right before the time expired. For winning, I received the $36 meal for free, a hat, & a spot on the wall of fame. For dessert, we had a huckleberry cream cheese cinnamon roll! I am only their 2nd winner out of 55 attempts. *Since attempting this challenge, the restaurant has switched to an only breakfast menu. We popped in after riding from Cody on the bikes. Really good selection for breakfast. I had the breakfast burrito while my riding partner had the odd combo of big ass bun, chili, and breakfast sausage. Good hot coffee with attentive service you can go wrong. read more

The Cracked Egg, a new casual diner in Laurel, is a winner. The menu is simple, with typical offerings presented with some unique twists. One side of the menu is breakfast (which is served all day) and the other "not breakfast". Simple enough. On my first visit I ordered a skillet. The food came quickly despite nearly every table being taken with people ordering. What caught my attention with the skillet were the onions and peppers cut in long slices, rather than chopped bits. Because the hash browns were the shredded kind, it was an unexpected visual treat. I've now decided this is the way it always should be -- slices of veggies. The hash browns could have been cooked a little more, but overall, the food was delicious. So, too, was the breakfast burrito. Unfortunately there's no good way to capture the tasty of a burrito in a picture without unwrapping it and ruining the effect. The tables are bare of condiments; instead, each table is near an easily reachable shelf that had the salt, pepper, hot sauces. It keeps the table clear for the main event. The walls and floors give a country vibe with the exposed brick and the wall of brands on one end, and the sprinkles of country-kitchen egg and chicken decor. "Butt nuggets"? Wow. Too funny. When it comes to a small place like this, the service can be a make or break. Fortunately, the Cracked Egg service falls squarely into the positive column. There is limited seating, so large parties won't be easily accommodated during peak hours. Most tables seat 4, but also have bench seating on one side that could allow for larger groups. read more

First off, we don't eat wheat so we didn't order pancakes, french toast, or cinnamon rolls. Those items may be very good, I don't know. We did order the Rancher's Skillet without the gravy smother, 2 eggs over easy, sausage. The hash browns were clearly not house made. Eggs were really awful - the yolk cooked as hard as hard boiled and the whites were crunchy. If "egg" is in your restaurant's name you should be able to cook them to order. The whole thing was smothered in greasy cheese that was almost, but not quite, melted. And the portion was just so tiny for the price! There is a half order on the menu, but we ordered - and were charged for - a full order. Wait staff was very nice and the place is super clean, hence the 2 stars. Not enough to salvage the experience. Won't be back. If you want to know what a breakfast skillet should be and are ever in Casper, WY head to G'ma's. You won't be sorry. read more

I judge a breakfast restaurant by its gravy and coffee, both were excellent. They did not water down the sausage gravy like many restaurants. It was savory and thick and full of delicious sausage. Hash browns were crisp and cooked perfect. Everyone thought I'd was one of the best breakfasts they've had in a while and the portions were quite generous. I was impressed. read more

We were looking for someplace fun and unique on our trip to Billings. Found the cracked egg online. The review said the food was amazing but the surface was not so great. This is NOT what we found. So good!! Staff was very nice and quick, and the food is to die for! The restaurant has a very friendly atmosphere and is super cute!

We went in with 4 kids and 2 adults. Terrific kids menu, my picky eaters were cleaning their plates. The waitress was so friendly and so helpful when I asked about ingredients. The owners were there and jumped up to get us a highchair ! Great addition to Laurel try it ! read more

The food is fantastic. The service needs some work. It was like the waitress forgot we were there. Finally took our order. Brought our food (which was great) but forgot my coffee and utensils. Had to wait about five minutes for her to return to ask for utensils and napkins. read more

Went for breakfast and ordered 2 eggs over well, crispy bacon and biscuit. The eggs were runny and sent them back which came back fried hard as rubber....asked for butter for biscuit never got the butter. We had to get going and said we didn't want the eggs any longer as too much time passed and didn't eat the biscuit as there was no butter brought. They brought the bill and charged full price for a meal that was not eaten. Service was nonexistent. Never got a refill on coffee forgot three items if food was cleaning off tables although no one was waiting to be sat the food was good but it took near an hour to get. They turned a couple away 36 minutes before closing (3 pm) because they were done for the day. Also they had a grand opening on a week day and closed at 3pm it was laughable overall I'd say there really is only one choice for breakfast In laurel and that is the Pelican they are on point. I'll try the cracked egg in a few months but honestly they have far to go. read more

Food was okay, but the service was absolutely terrible. We waited 35 minutes for them to take our order. We tried to tell our waitress we were ready to order when we sat down but she ignored us and walked away. We then watched her take peoples order who had arrived after us. Our food came out quickly however some of our food was cold, like the toast and the eggs. The eggs were very undercooked. The cinnamon roll was also very undercooked. We did have to go up and ask for to-go boxes and our check. The place is cute and I know they are busy, but they definitely need to work on a few things. I do not plan on ever going back. read more

We came in to this place at the same time as another couple and we were put way in the back. (Not sure if this contributed to the problem) we waited then asked some for water and menu. Then waited more and then asked who our waitress was. We were told it was the change of shift they had no idea. Waited some more then a group of guys come in and they are taking their orders, they sat right next to us! Well my patience is GONE. I go up to the counter and ask if there was a reason we weren't getting waited on. T hen I got a phoney excuse there wasn't enough computers for all the waitresses. Needless to say we decided to leave they came over as we got up and I really wanted to try the food. Yuck! Only side dish was macaroni that tasted like school paste and a meatloaf sandwich that tasted like burnt ends. If the goal was to never have us back then they won! Hard to watch people we came in with eat,pay and leave before we ordered. Waitress kept saying they had just newly open and finally apologized at the end. Then claimed she apologized right away.
