A packed house means it must be good. Meal was delivered promptly, I barely finished a excellent cup of coffee when our meals arrived. Everything was perfect. The hash browns were good and large portion. Visiting my daughter in college and saw this on yelp. Took my wife, parents and my daughter's boyfriend. The food was fantastic. Everyone ordered breakfast and there were no complaints. The entertaining waiter from Detroit made my mom's day! Funny, attentive and just an all around good guy. I personally ordered blueberry pancakes and the amount of blueberries they added made sure that every bite was blueberry heaven!!! The macaroni salad was pickle-y. I mean, it tasted like a creamy pickle relish with macaroni. I'm not complaining -- I like pickle relish -- but this might not be to everyone's taste. The soup was thick, hearty, and on its own -- filling. On the day I stopped by for breakfast, they were still friendly. Who are these people at this hour of the morning who can be nice? Fake? They have to be the best fakers on earth then. Breakfast is also good here, and again, I went with the special: a breakfast casserole exactly as what it sounds like: a mix of eggs, sausage, peppers, onions, and with a choice of gravy or a spicy sauce. Yep. It was good, but the spicy sauce really wasn't. It was more of a salsa-like tomato sauce, but it was a nice alternative. The coffee is standard diner coffee. Not bad, but not outstanding. My husband and I came here for lunch today and I have to say, I would have enjoyed fast food more. They were not busy when we got there, but it took an hour for us to get our sub-par food. I ate it because I was hangry, but the chicken fried steak had a really thick crust with a horrible texture, the tater tots were overcooked, the eggs were snotty, and the toast came with whipped spread, not even butter. Food was ok, very basic, nothing special. Biscuits warmed in microwave by waitress. Slower than necessary service. Why am I reviewing? The attention to food handling was unsettling. I love supporting local and small businesses but they should still have a standard of cleanliness. Coffee pot was super dirty, I mean old time gas station/truck stop black residue on the pot they poured out of. The waitress taking money and handling credit cards, touching everyone's dirty silverware and dirty dishes, scraping food off plates...then touching things being served or things we were then touching. Worst was a guy clearing water cups off a table with his fingers down in the cups in order to carry several then immediately started rolling clean silverware into napkins for use by the next unsuspecting customer. This is the place that locals go. Small place, maybe 15 tables. Little bakery case, shelf of local jams, jellies and syrups of all kinds. Great "feel" when you walk in the door. Attentive and courteous wait staff. Great coffee. I had the Spanish omelet, red Chile sauce, hash browns and regular toast. Excellent. On the way out, I met the chef and thanked him. This is a small, locally owned and operated neighborhood cafe that serves only breakfast and lunch and only during the week (closed Sat-Sun). Two quick observations: First, the parking lot is fairly small and there's no street parking anywhere nearby as their located in a strip mall along two very busy streets (Broadwater & 15th). Second the dinning room is very small with around 10 tables then 10 stools at the counter. Go early. My brother and I went for lunch. I ordered the Albacore Tuna sandwich on wheat with a potato chip side. That was a mistake. I should have ordered their homemade soup as a side instead. Next time I will. Homemade? Yes. As are most every food item they serve outside of the ketchup bottle. My sandwich was fresh and delicious. Normally, I would have ordered the tuna sandwich without the advertised tomato and sweet relish. But I decided to eat the sandwich the way the owner intended so I ordered it unaltered and was damn glad I did. I couldn't put my finger on what made the sandwich so good until our waitress told me the sweet relish was also homemade and they used zucchini. Incredible! The relish, along with the thin slice of tomato, went so well with the homemade tuna giving it a nice sweet subtle tang while the tomato simply made it juicier. Great idea! Took about 5 minutes longer than I'm used to waiting for lunch so keep that in mind. The interior is clean and the cafe-style tables and chairs are a LOT more comfortable than they look. The chairs had padding galore and were very comfortable. They don't serve breakfast during the lunch hour. The bread used for the sandwiches is dense and fresh and delicious. Bon Appetit! read more

I have been here numerous times for breakfast. I have never had a bad meal. Biscuits are fresh and delicious with the homemade jelly. Love the buckwheat pancakes with the fresh homemade syrup. Also love the fresh squeezed orange juice. Their pies are superb. I especially like the coconut custard and the strawberry rhubarb. The crusts are flaky. I often order whole pies for family functions or pot lucks. The dining room is small but we've never had to wait to long for a table. Staff is always friendly and efficient.
