For whatever reason (besides COVID), our OSF schedule didn't involve coming out to Jacksonville. So on our recent sojourn here, Carefree Buffalo was our fist stop (weird downtown traffic patterns permitting) was Carefree Buffalo. The nice selection of pricey and amazing made-in Oregon William Henry knives are still here, as are a nice section of ones from Santa Fe (New Mexico) Stoneworks. Of course, there's more than knives here, and they'll all nicely displayed and waiting for you to pick it up or ask about it. I ended up buying a cool (and cheap) utility knife, which pretty much kept me for spending more money. After all, I had to behave myself as Gayle was watching. :)

This store is truly like a jam packed museum of amazing artifacts, furnishings, tables, lamps, decorative arts and a host of other Moroccan and Jewish pieces hand picked by the owner direct from artisans in Marrakech, Fez and other parts of Morocco. The only such store in the Pacific Northwest, and a source of goods for other stores up and down the western US. The owner Hadji was friendly and effusive, informative and respectful. We bought two beautiful worked metal end tables and some dishes. Great positive energy in the store, Expect to browse for an hour (as we did) discovering one after another amazing hand made furnishings and household goods and art. We will be back as the store periodically refreshes its massive inventory with new shipments from Morocco.

And their prices range from reasonable to a little more than I would have expected. But that happens with antiques. They were friendly enough while we were there. . But then we found out two days later, that apparently we weren't the type of customers that they wanted in their store. They completely judged Us by our appearance, and told our friend that we were not welcome to come back and that they had debated on calling the police on us while we were there. This really took me by surprise since I thought we were pleasant and respectful. I was very careful about how I touched anything, and I even left my umbrella by the door. I'm not really sure what brought this on other than just judging a book by its cover. I will probably not return to that store. Even though there were a few items I was very interested in. So as much as I would love to give them a four or better, star rating, because of their behind our backs attitude I'm only giving them a two.

Glass is blown almost every day and it's an engaging activity to watch. Perusing the gallery or watching new items being created is a great way to start to understand what you might like (or imagine broader possibilities than you might have walking in). If you're new to blown glass or merely curious, an entry point is their Orbs - which are amazing upgrades to any Christmas trees. Their amazing range of colors and gorgeous swirled patterns are spellbinding in the way they catch the lights on your tree. And that's only the beginning. If that's not your holiday, they have pumpkins, snowpeople and a range of other entertaining options. Beyond the holiday wares, they have a diversity of glassware ranging from beautiful wine stems and champagne flutes to chunkier highballs, daily tableware and a vast array of other vessels of every shape/size/color/pattern/wow. And then there's the artwork. This is where things get truly impressive. They have an array of vases and bowls in different shape/size/color/pattern/wow and a wider variety of broader glass artwork too diverse to describe here. These make unique, exceptional gifts that to lean into when your recipient deserves something which transcends what you might find in our homogenous world of online shopping. Custom artwork is not inexpensive, but we find the prices very reasonable for the quality of the products offered.
